Ruiz stadium update

You've been on a roll lately, kid. You think any Golden Canes or donors of any significance aren't going to be able to park right up close to the stadium? Well, ok, then. There will be 16,000 spots ON SITE. Plus walkable off-site, shuttle off-site, and tons of community private yard parking just like nearly every spot at the OB that we miss so much was like.

You all get shook real easy.
When I went to see ND play UCLA at the Rose Bowl, regular season, not only is the stadium 20 miles from Campus but there is almost no parking around it. Had to be shuttled up the stadium from downtown Pasadena

Not sure if this is your point, but interestingly enough I can see a comparison, as this stadium and the park, as well as game day will be a destination. You won't be driving to HRS because oh well, its where the stadium is in the middle of nowhere, this will be THING.

I predict that the stadium will be sold out for every game with season tickets skyrocketing. There are so many people who live within walking or biking distance of the stadium. It will be "their" stadium, kind of like in college towns. They are all going to go to the games, plus the increased student, employee, alumni and fan traffic.

It could already be factored in the cost.
The Mas Bros. are providing all the building materials at cost. Ruiz is just on the hook for bribing county officials and securing all the party barges for the tailgating on the lakes.

The profit sharing alone from the world's largest Flanny's at Miami Live will more than recoup all of Ruiz's investment.

If you were paying attention I said people had brought up the 48K because of the sharing stadium with the soccer stadium.

The students make up very very little of that 65k.

If you can't figure out that 16k won't work for 65k then there's no helping you.
Students are roughly 5k. Hard Rock Stadium is a 65k seat venue with over 26,000 parking spaces. Maybe more people will just walk to the stadium now?

Again, I’m going to chime in b/c I’m in HKS world. Lol. So when SoFi was built, like I’ve said, no one thought it could happen from a logistic standpoint. Not only that, but as I’ve said, there’s no nice quarters to stay at, & the “best” restaurants in the immediate areas are:
-Olive Gardens
-Red Lobster
-Sizzler
-Chilis
-Wendy’s Hamburger
-Del Taco
-Chipotle
Lol

OK, so what happened? Well a couple of things:
1. SoFi is in a shared parking lot w/ an infamous, hood casino. That “hood casino” was sold to an Indian Gaming Corp & was completely transformed.

2. The amount of space in between SoFi & The Casino is now being built into a destination, w/ a mega open theatre that specializes in mature entertainment w/ bars & lounges, and a couple of higher end restaurants will be moving in, as well.

3. As a result, this motivated The Clippers to build their stadium down the street (1/2 mile South)

4. Now The Forum (across the street from SoFi) is throwing more concerts & events there b/c of the activity (AEW just came here)

It’s a nice little domino effect. Is it traffic all around during this time? Yes, b/c Inglewood is small suburb of L.A & there’s only 2 streets that’s let u in to that part of town, and again, it’s all in a residential area w/ elementary, middle, & high schools all around. Yet, somehow it works.

L-O-L

Just a FYI, since I have first hand experience of HKS work w/ limited land to build a stadium on:

SOFI has even less immediate parking spots that’s being proposed at this potential site, and absolutely zero street parking b/c it’s zoned residential parking & ur car will be towed. There’s no nice hotels around, unless u stay at one of the hooker/crack infested roach motels in close proximity (less than a mile). Yet, somehow, it works. Somehow 70k fans r there.

It’s called planning.

This thread has made me realize that, from a segment of this fan base, they will always look for a detractor or negative reason to root against this project. I’m of the mindset nothing will pls them b/c of a simple fact: their convenience is in jeopardy. This stadium “could” have 65k parking spots, & it’ll be something wrong. It “could” bring in $10m/yr in revenue for The U, & there will still be something to complain about, b/c it’s about convenience. I just wish that was said vs. all of these other arguments used to detract. Just say ‘I don’t want it to happen b/c I don’t want to lose my convenience’
And to phrase my agreement a different way: I am a fan of the Miami Hurricanes, not of the Hard Rock Stadium Hurricanes.

In fact, while way more convenient for me for the games to be at Hard Rock, I almost never actually go down to campus… so as an alumni, this project would increase the times I am on campus every season.

And I get the frustration for alums & fans who are conveniently located by HRS. I empathize w/ them; I mean I grew up in a city where The Lakers played in an arena many of its fans could walk to the game. They were ****ed when LAL moved to Staples; the complaints were

1. Traffic
2. Despite being in Downtown, L.A’s downtown is horrible compared to other big cities, & at the time, there was nothing to do out there
3. Parking inconvenience b/c majority of the parking would be off site, which led to
4. Dangers of Downtown w/ the homeless population

So I saw first hand my uncles & aunts complain about this, or class mates angry about the move. Over time, it came to be an outstanding move, & eventually, the entire down town area got a face lift from living (high end lofts), firms moving to down town (as they got sweet Laker packages), high end Hotel built across the street (Ritz Carlton), & a lot of cool restaurants, night life popped up. Downtown & Hollywood became brothers & sisters as far as entertainment value, & it started w/ Crypto.Com Arena (formerly Staples).

FACE LIFT?? Did you see what was done to that stadium? It was 100% demolished with exception of the main support columns. The entire building is new including all seating and seats were moved closer to the field. It was not a "facelift".
False. The majority of the seats did not move closer. They are nicer with more leg room, but they are not closer to the field, which remains too far away for a football game. The reason for this has to do with fútbol (or at least Joe Robbie’s vision for fútbol).

People can't see six inches in front of their faces let alone project what urban revitalization looks like.

Yeah; and again, I’ve not stepped foot at the revamped HRS; I have stepped foot on to the Old Lady & Sun Life. However, just looking at the demo & the remodel, I specifically recall fans thinking the seats were going to be closer to field, & reports were they were not; however, the comfort level was greatly enhanced & better acoustics. The seats still look pretty far away from the sidelines, but maybe my scope is different. Maybe they’ve moved in 10 feet or so, but it seems pretty far still.

jrios4444 on Trip Advisor said it best. HRS is a pro sports venue and not suited for CFB. This is at the root of what Ruiz is trying to get done.

this sucks for college games

Review of Hard Rock Stadium
Reviewed October 2, 2018
the way the stadium sets up for college is totally wrong they amplify the sound of music constantly and it takes away from the college experience for the fans , they forget we are not there to hear guns and roses or hip hop we want to hear the sounds of the bands the student the refs the mascot etc.. also the pricing for food and beverages is the same as the pro games, exp 5 dollars for bottle water is ridiculous 12 dollars or more for a beer is also sick not to mention the price of food

This has nothing to do with building a new stadium. You could ameliorate all that at HRS. You’re way off on this. There may be other better reasons, but this ain’t it. Do better.

Loud music? Expensive food? LOL

According to the builders they moved in 25 feet. “Closer“ is a relative term anyway. I don’t even know why this is a thing. It makes no sense.

They could eliminate all music and shut off the jumbotrons and it still wouldn't feel quite right since the seats are so far away, we play with the Dolphins logo in our endzones, there's Dolphin paraphernalia everywhere you look. Oh and the stadium may as well be in Broward. We need our own place.

Other than excitement from fans and Ruiz, is there any hint Dade County, and whatever other relevant entities not related to UM, would seriously entertain this type of proposal?

So you think they've let John Ruiz and the architectural firm survey the whole property for months without any assurances that a deal can be made? Hilarious.

Means absolutely nothing but Ruiz senior did mention the Parks department is ecstatic about his proposal. Furthermore, to your point, i believe there has been some kind of communication with the county. I expect him to make a former presentation the university of Miami once the stadium plans are done, then to the county.

The park itself hasn't been updated since 1979. The public would be crazy not to want a private citizen to fund a nearly complete rebuild.
