Ruiz family podcast

Lol; did u just say “pathetic list” when the very first two events is about to be a sold out? Also, b/c of the huge Polynesian community, Rugby is pretty popular. No, it won’t sell out, but it’ll get revenue. Lol. Also, u do realize that USC got paid handsomely off of naming rights to the Coliseum, correct? Also, The Rams were playing there before moving to So Fi as tenants. The Dodgers have hosted games there recently.

Don’t be so hard on The Coliseum my friend. There’s a reason y it was renovated.
That list is for the entirety of 2022 so yeah that's pathetic and saying the Rams played there before moving to a real stadium sure is a feather in the LA Coliseum's cap right? Also seems USC took on the project knowing that to make any real money they will have to develop the out parcels which will obviously cost hundreds of millions.

Our situation certainly isn't perfect but playing in a stadium renovated for $400M isn't the albatross its made out to be.

To me, this sounds like you are only thinking about the immediate future. Ross, whom you referenced, is 81 years old. What may be a good partnership today, does not mean it will be a good partnership tomorrow. I don’t think it is smart to say “well hey things are great right now, if things change in the future, we cross that bridge when we come to it.” I think having a vision and plan for the future is important. It is more than a preference that UM have its own stadium. On campus or not, the more important thing is that UM have complete control of it and not be at the mercy of someone else.
You don't you think whomever buys the Dolphins (if Ross' family ever sells when he's gone) aren't also going to be smart business people? They'll be paying $5B minimum for buy the team/stadium. You also don't think at some point the Dolphins will get another brand new state of the art stadium built?

My point is why waste the financial resources when those could be put to use on campus and if push came to shove UM could offer $50-100M for future improvements in exchange for controlling concessions/parking and having some naming rights.

I would punch her right in the…..wait, does she have one of those??

austin powers balloon GIF

Of course it would be preferred to have an on campus (or very close to campus stadium) but it would be an atrocious use of $500M and the bottom line is win games and HR could easily be packaged by a skillful recruiter as the most unique stadium in NCAAF just like the OB was back in the day.

The OB was run by the corrupt city of Miami. HR is owned run by a skillful billionaire businessman that realizes a partnership with UM is good for business.

Ruiz said on the podcast he is willing to pay the whole cost of the stadium.

I'm going on a hiatus then I'll come back with something. I need a break from all this , I still have a small business to run. Yet I'm staying up all hours of the night texting and pm'ing about movements lol. Tbh I'm exhausted.
Thank you for all the info. You've definitely kept this entertaining. To a new era my friend. Go canes.

I don't care what ANYONE says....the Canes belong IN THE HEART OF DADE, not on the county line 20+ miles away from campus.

This guy is a God **** hero. Some of you need to embrace him a little more and show some gratitude. He's a big reason for the momentum we are currently riding. I sincerely hope he finds a way to bring a stadium to DADE county.

Sounds like all he is asking for is for people to be open to the idea. This isn't that complicated from a public standpoint. You simply ask for a few different options in terms of locations and select the one you like most. You may be surprised what some really good engineers can do.

The amount of monstrous multi-use apartment/retail places they've put up all around CGHS in that area of Coral Gables would have been unthinkable even 10 years ago, so I don't think it's impossible. I imagine the Mas family went through this exercise with the Miami FC stadium already so I'm not sure there are many unturned stones left. But like I said in another thread, it's time to get irrational. That kind of thinking, with enough will and money behind it, will eventually make something work.

He needs to pitch the stadium with some sort of shopping and entertainment connected to it. If he can pitch a City Walk/Disney Springs with a stadium instead of a theme park at one end he may be able to argue the job creation aspect and have a better chance. This way the project is generating revenue and work for the community year round. Build some of the retail space into the stadium. Dual purpose parking garages that aren't sitting unused 359 days. Tropical Park would be perfect, right off the highway. Keep some of the green space, City Walk/Disney Springs section, and then a stadium at the end of it all that blends in with the aesthetics. Enter into an agreement to let the local schools use the stadium. Create Jobs.

It has to be about adding to the community. It can't just be a stadium.

Oh, and selfishly, it has to be called the Orange Bowl and it has to have a similar layout. And urinal troughs. And the guy at the food stand needs to give me a discount if I pay him in cash.
It might be called the Ruiz Family Orange Bowl, but if he's paying for it, it's going to have his name on it somewhere.

My preference is for our own stadium. The optics would be better, you could tour it with visistors etc. I will say it again though, playing at hard rock has no detrimental effects on our play or recruiting. Its better than most of these on campus stadiums with bleachers. Hard Rock is loud, most of it is covered. It will have a different feel with competent coaching.
If this guy is serious and has the means to do a stadium, ill support it. I don't see why so many people are just saying no when for years they been crying about it..now we basically have Tee Boone Pickens and its more complaining. I tell you what, it be nice to not hearing talking heads refer to not having a stadium every time there is a little crisis at the U. They used to talk about no IPF. They don't anymore.

I get it ... I'm just saying the $500M could be better used elsewhere on campus that benefits athletics and improves the university at the same time. A stadium a few miles away from campus vs 20 miles isn't a good ROI. Now if he was buying up houses between the hospital, west Lab, and Ponce to build a state-of-the-art stadium then all for it. Building at Tropical or some other **** location NOT on campus is a waste of resources.
