RSP Boiler Room - Deejay Dallas

I'm obviously not at practices or in the film rooms, but is it reasonable to assume that Lingard's pass protect was worse than this, and quite possibly much worse?

Absolutely. Dallas was consistent in knowing his assignment and being physical with effort. You can do A LOT worse than that and his technique issues will be corrected at the next level. Lingard is stiff and fairly thin so that makes it a challenge to square up targets coming from depth. If the reports are true about him not knowing the playbook then that makes him completely unreliable.

I'm very high on Dallas as an NFL prospect.

Dallas was the best blocker by far even with this “all or nothing” approach. That’s Clinton Portis level effort in blocking and he actually identified his man. Cam Harris often would double a guy already blocked instead of taking the free rusher.

I can only assume when asked to block Lingard either said “nah, I’m good”, didn’t know what blocking was, or was too busy messaging gator coaches about how he wanted their balls on his chin.

It may have been in Lance’s write up that Lashlee doesn’t ask his RBs to block much in his scheme. That sounds good based on this video.

This guys really gonna have the same 2 second clip replay over and over while he slowly drones on like the teacher in ferris beulers day off.

Then he picks a bunch of bad examples, where in every single one, Dallas' blocking has no impact on the play because the tackles or Jarren already ruined the play. The scrambling QB causes the defenders to take different routes rendering DJs blocking ineffective.

I agree that hes not blocking well, but this could have been a 1 minute video with 5 much better examples.

I am as well. Tough market in early rounds.

You can trace these behaviors and poor techniques back two decades. We haven’t had a lot of very good teachers of the game for a while.

My dawg Matt Waldman has done a good job for years. He's not always right, but shows his work and has a process.

I was pounding the table to get rid of the RB Coach until he got Knighton here...which may not have really been him at all, but someone has to get credit.

I have no problem replacing him, too. I dont think he's particularly good.

A film on Cam Harris' seeming regression would show some similar issues.

His NFL breakdowns on twitter are worse. He'll pause a play for 45+ seconds while he drones on. Baldy does it sometimes too. I don't know why these analysts can't just let the play loop while they talk.

Another year, another Cane exposed for poor technique on this channel.

No one's job should be safe on the offensive staff.

I didnt even listen to the voiceover, I just watched the video play these plays over and over again. DeeJay didnt do anything wrong on either of the first two plays that you showed. The third play, I saw the QB not even attempt to step into the pocket as the edge rushers close in, however if he does, there is clear room behind 55, and possibly a scramble for a few yards if necessary. (not to mention I remember this play, we were under 2 minutes with 3rd and a mile, and had already given up a boatload of sacks....we should have already made an adjustment in protection with the back, which falls on PEnos and his OL coach buddy)

The 4th play, JW was already moving out of the pocket because once again the edge rusher blows by our weak OT. You froze the play showing Dallas' form I suppose, while you can clearly see two other defenders completely beating OL and our QB has already made a decision to scramble. Then he decides not to protect the ball, and a DB comes up to force a fumble on a careless QB.

The 5th play your cursor was pointing to the gap between the OL and him, and where the defender moves outside and beats him outside...which he was doing regardless. Not sure what you said about it, but Dallas could have forced that guy back in if he stays on the outside shoulder of the defender, when what he should have done was chop that guy at the legs.

The 6th play I saw he block the interior defender and once again JW decides not to step up towards the pocket. So not anything to see wrong with DJ on that either.

It's not my video. I'm not gonna bother breaking down every play to argue. The point of the video was to highlight a technical flaw in Dallas' pass protection that could be problematic at the next level. The point of the video was not to assign blame to Dallas for messing up assignments.

Thats fair, Id say the biggest flaw, is certainly that he drops his head on almost every rusher coming from the secondary, and he needs to better with that. But the dude is definitely a good blocking RB

See below.

Same guy says the UGA rb class is on par with MIAMI circa Portis, Gore

lol. Ok

I'm buying stock in Dallas at the next level. He's a natural receiver and he's excellent between the ears. Those guys tend to make it.
Yep and he will be put in a place to succeed. His weight and conditioning will be appropriate.

For apparently having bad technique he was a **** of a ***king blocker.

Honestly probably the toughest to tackle RB we’ve had since Edge. Watching Homer the other day only solidified my Deejay thoughts. (Not saying they are the same)

I don't agree with this guy the only mistake he truly made was with Sean davis every other time his guy got pressure on jw was because William's was flushed out of the pocket. To me all Dallas really needs to do is square up more. In the NFL pass rushers when they get to the rb all they do is bull rush them so if Dallas can whack them back that buys the QBs enough time to deliver the ball. Dallas is gonna make NFL because he is a willing pass protector and pretty good at and his pass catching skills. He needs to reshape his body imo he lost his burst and speed with how they built his body. He will be a pro for a while
