RSP Boiler Room - Deejay Dallas

Dallas was the best blocker by far even with this “all or nothing” approach. That’s Clinton Portis level effort in blocking and he actually identified his man. Cam Harris often would double a guy already blocked instead of taking the free rusher.

I can only assume when asked to block Lingard either said “nah, I’m good”, didn’t know what blocking was, or was too busy messaging gator coaches about how he wanted their balls on his chin.

Lingard just instagram blocked you for this post

See below.

Same guy says the UGA rb class is on par with MIAMI circa Portis, Gore

lol. Ok

Chubb is the best back in the NFL. Michel outproduced him for stretches at UGA which shows how good he was but dude has a bum knee and isn't the same athlete anymore. His injury situation was well documented going into the draft so there's no excuses for the Patriots or Waldman to overvalue a ticking time bomb.

Also Waldman will deny it but he lives near UGA and seems to have a subconscious bias to their players. He said Fromm was his top QB on a podcast recently lmao. Ironically if anything he's actually a Cane "fan" who went to Miami for grad school.

Miami is the only program/fan base that I've ever seen that places the premium on Blocking for a RB lol.

Like I don't remember at all how good a blocker Ricky Williams, Marshall Faulk, Barry Sanders, Edgerrin James, Willis McGahee, Adrian Peterson, Ezekiel Elliott, Kareem Hunt, Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley & Todd Gurley all were in college.

Wish I could upvote this 1,000 times. This is so true.

El just locked up post of the year 7 days into 2020.

Edge and McGahee were excellent. Portis and Gore were even better.

It’s been poor coaching for a while on both sides of the ball;
How many missed tackles did we have?
How many blown assignments?
How many gap integrity issues?
How many ole sacks?
How many missed blocking assignments?

We haven’t been coached up properly in a min, and it’s no wonder that guys who leave here (coaching staff) are rarely sought after again by a P5 program

This guys really gonna have the same 2 second clip replay over and over while he slowly drones on like the teacher in ferris beulers day off.

Then he picks a bunch of bad examples, where in every single one, Dallas' blocking has no impact on the play because the tackles or Jarren already ruined the play. The scrambling QB causes the defenders to take different routes rendering DJs blocking ineffective.

I agree that hes not blocking well, but this could have been a 1 minute video with 5 much better examples.

You saved me typing this up myself. Miami hate! Is all I heard from dude. Every play all I see is the OL getting blasted and this guy picking on Deejay for going "all or nothing" on a guy that really is the last one to the party.

That may be true, but when I think of Edge, McGahee, Portis & Gore, blocking is literally the LAST thing that comes to mind lol.
Back in the bro style days you couldnt even get on the field for soldinger if you werent an excellent blocker.. He already knew you could run but he was always on top of that blocking.. Those guys took a certain pride in that, Portis probably being #1.

But spread revolution is here..

**** let's put Emmit smith, Roger Craig, John Riggins, and Jamal Lewis on there too! Don't forget about Troy Davis from Iowa State.

Blocking arguably cost Gurley an SECCG win...so....yeah.

I don't deny that it matters, I just never remembering blocking being the most important factor for a RB.

When I watch guys like Travis Etienne, JK Dobbins or Chuba Hubbard play, their blocking skills never seem to come up, it's usually more so their speed, balance, vision, ability to make defenders miss etc, that tend to matter more, but Idk maybe I'm missing something lol.

DJ Dallas is very much todays type of back. Think he will excel at the next level. Somebody is going to get a steal with that kid, per usual with our players.

Dallas does a great job of identifying where the pressure is coming from but clearly needs to clean up the technique. Instead of trying to knock people out he needs to try to shut them down with a powerful engagement. Plenty of room for growth for sure but it’s far from terrible.

The overwhelming amount of backs in college are more often then not, late to their blocks or miss their assignments. DJ always got a hat on a hat and it was the right one. Coaching leaves a little to be desired. However, teaching a kid how to identify the who and when, for a RB, far outweighs the how. The details are tiny here. DJ is rated approximately the 25/28 best back in this draft. He’s undervalued because he had both poor quarterbacks and OL. I’ll tell him to keep his head up when blocking. I’m sure no coach ever told him that.... smh As for the “loading up” He has a habit of doing this, because you’re taught to set a base for the mass advantage the advancing rusher has over the blocker. He needs better hand work and to move into the blocks. It’s a very easy fix. His form and assignment awareness are very good. Not a big deal. I’d bet all three things were addressed, but when blocking, most guys go to what works for them. DJ is going to have to put the time in to fix these things. Every RB coach, even the average ones consistently say “keep your head up” “keep your feet moving” “punch and push with your hands”. It’s an execution issue and honestly, will stop NO ONE from taking him. He’s a very good blocker. FWIW Duke and homer were both our last GREAT blockers.

My dawg Matt Waldman has done a good job for years. He's not always right, but shows his work and has a process.

I was pounding the table to get rid of the RB Coach until he got Knighton here...which may not have really been him at all, but someone has to get credit.

I have no problem replacing him, too. I don't think he's particularly good.

A film on Cam Harris' seeming regression would show some similar issues.

Waldman is the man. His film breakdown detailed and intelligent, and as good as anyone you can find.

To me his shortcomings for RB's is he places a little too much emphasis on little things like blocking and fumbling and not enough on athleticism/measureables when grading. But the dude knows what he's talking about.

I think Deejay will have a better career in the NFL than anybody will expect. He's smart and has a great attitude. That goes a long way toward continuing to develop.
