I was a frosh at UM in 1982 and he made my first year memorable. I traveled to Hogtown for the opener against Florida and enjoyed all of the home games that year as we clawed our way back to national relevance. He was the architect of our dynasty and I was devastated when he left for the Washington Diplomats.

While JJ is my all-time favorite Hurricanes coach, Howard put us on the map. RIP.
