Richt says Rosier is the starter ...

With all the negatives thrown at Rosier, the man got us our 1st win over noles in forever, to 10-0, a number two ranking and our first ACC title game. Okay, thise last three games were horrible but I suspect one of anyone’s foavorite never played a game backup QBs is going to have to really lite it on fire before the season starts for Mark to dump senior qb with 11- 3 record and 26 tds last year for the first game of the season.

I want better play at qb and everywhere else and have no particular favorites anywhere but I hesitate to want someone to knock Rosier off because merely to have a replacement. The defense sucked against Pitt and Clemson too. For me Manny is as much a question mark as Rosier. Still how name years did it take to get to frigging ACC title game? If one of the others blows the tires off, then I am fine with replacement but 11- 3 is not something coaches throw away too quickly for unknown and untried rookies. That said, I want to win ACC next year so we might have to roll a big set out there and hope one of the new kids is the next Bernie or Jim.

Rosier had very little to do with us winning 10 games & the he was injured excuse is completely bogus.

Kaaya got his ****** molar knocked out & had his bell rung far more than Rosier ever did & he put up far better numbers than him.

Rosier was below 55% cmp & threw 14INT's last season, he's not a good QB we won most of our games in spite of him not because of him. I give him credit for Toledo, GTech & FSU, but otherwise he was mainly inaccurate & struggled vs mostly weak Defenses we should've steamrolled.

No one has said that the next QB shouldn't have to earn it, but just because we won 10 games with Rosier as the QB doesn't mean that he should be the automatic starter either, he should have to earn it just as much as anyone else.

El I usually agree with you but while you give him credit for GT and FSU you act like that was no big deal. FSU was the biggest game of the year. And he saved Mark’s rear in the GT came from that horrible onside kick crap. I think he did just fine in VT and ND games too. Granted we crushed both, showing what happens when D and O play well togethe4 for whole games.

If we could have closed like we did this year against FSU the last two years, we would be on three game winning streak. I am sure you remember what it felt like the last seven years after the frigging nole game. If someone proves better, fine, but dumping the most successful QBs we have had since Berlin is rather rash. Conference title game and top bowl game is not grounds to be put back with the pack. Let some dog in the pack show he is the better alpha before you take the lead dog off. If some takes his job, fine but it is his until then. I’m sorry but taking noles’ hearts in Tally is enough to give him the start against LSU. That had that old time feeling to it.

Yeah but bro did you see his completion percentage?

Stupid sumbich should've told it like it is instead of playin' the corchspeak game.

A real coach would've said "I appreciate Malik serving as a bridge last season but it's plain as day this is now Augie DeBiase's team. I won't be addressing this issue again. Any questions about the punters, Susan?"

LOL...some of y'all would've been boycotting Charlie Ward if He was our QB:

1992 204 365 55.9 2,647 22 17 100 504 5.0 6
1993 264 380 69.5 3,032 27 4 65 339 5.2 4

Didn't start till He was a RS-Jr....had a game where He threw something like 4-5 INTs...Rosier's career seems like it's on the same trajectory.

Are you suggesting this fanbase overreacts and calls for people to get fired/benched prematurely?

We'll revisit this topic in August.

He’s the starter......for now. There’s nothing that convinces me he’ll be the starter in the fall.

Couldn’t have said it better. It’s clear the only way to win with Rosier is to force at least 3 turnovers a game and then it’s still a dog fight last drive to win situation.

Richt knows what he doing. Every player that started in the bowl who is still on the team is a starter at their position right now.

I remember his first game vs Miami in the OB, I was almost laughing at how bad he was, then next year he's in the shotgun and ****....I think the point is valid, you don't toss Rosier until you have a better replacement, you also don't throw a kid under the bus that for the most part played well enough to win. Look at it from a players perspective, how would Richt be viewed by current and prospective players if he dumped on Rosier publicly?

Yeah that's the hedgy-est "he's the starter for sure" statement in the history of coachspeak. He's the starter for sure...until someone else is...

This, no sense saying **** now to make Rosier think of leaving but for anyone who believes this isn't an open competition you're out of your mind.

Well of course he's the starter. Why wouldn't he be in February. He still may be after spring as well. Let's see who's the starter in late August.
Who ever it is they will have earned it by that time.

I rewatched all of our games from last year (except the losses as I don’t like to intentionally torture myself) and my conclusion is that Rosier is just not a high level P5 QB at this point. Can his major flaw, accuracy, be improved in his final offseason? I’m not sure.

But the fact is we were lucky to come away with Ws against FSU, GT, UNC, etc. We could have easily been an 8-4 team.

But back to Rosier specifically, we all saw the wide open misses but I want to go to a more specific example of his accuracy problems. Against FSU in the 3rd Q, AR ran a 7-10 yard out route that was almost picked by McFadden. At first glance you think this is a misread but it’s a ball placement issue. He throws this ball at AR’s inside shoulder instead of toward the sideline. If that ball is placed between 6 inches and 2 feet more toward the sideline it’s an easy catch and first down.

Last season was riddled with these examples. There were countless slants that were behind, low, or too wide that caused us to stall drives. These are basic throws that any college qb can hit on 90% of the time.

To give credit where its due, Rosier did make some good plays with his feet and Richt incorporated that more as the year went on. And he did make the plays late in games when it counted the most, although an argument can be made we shouldn’t have been in those spots to begin with.

Rewatching without the emotion of a fan and really focusing on the offense, we’re too talented to have an offense that stalls more times than not. Even with the injuries and lack of depth, we were an accurate QB away from at least a perfect regular season along with some blowouts on the way.

We’ll see how Rosier progress and how Richt decides to handle the competition. Should be an interesting offseason.

Don't forget Richt pulled Rosier in a couple of games last year. If we would have had a capable backup that sparked the offense, this argument would be totally different.

Richt's not going to come out and say Rosier sucks, even if he thinks it. It will be an open competition this offseason.

All I’ve got to say is Perry better apply himself and hit that playbook fūcking hard. I may be wrong, but I got the sense from reading some things he just wasn’t doing the pre work and wasn’t ready when he showed up on campus last year, so he basically had no shot.

He’s got a kid coming in behind him that at the very least might pass him for number 2.

If I recall correctly, I read that Perry was basically in a backyard offense not having to do much reading of defenses or film study. Would line up in a shot gun and sling it around. He has got the skill and talent but the learning curve was too much to overcome to start as a freshman. Williams, on the other hand, is a different story. He comes with both experience with film study and similar skill base. The qb competition should be really interesting this Spring/ Fall.
