Richt promotes " three YES men, " with no legitimate EXPERIENCE!

You guys don’t understand how important Banda is he has built great relationships in south florida and is a monster recruiter and a great coach. Keeping him was paramount and will pay dividends in recruiting not just in 2019 but beyond.

Then give him a big raise.Just because he’s a great recruiter doesn’t make him a great or even good DC...

"Great coach"?...LOL...name one coach on Alabama or Clemson's defensive staff that would've played Knowles in the biggest game of the year (LSU)?

LOL the year before was good year? Come on no need to retread history but that wasn’t a good year it started well but ended horrifically.

Yeah the year that our defense took the National spotlight with the turnover chain and shutdown the #3 team on national prime time was a good year.

I was at that Clemson game with an opposing QB who had to xfer because he wasn’t good enough to beat out a true freshman. He was playing pitch and catch like he was in the school yard and almost set the record for consecutive completions that evening so again it wasnt a good end.

ND was overrated AF last year.

Us having the number 2 total defense is not that impressive when you look at who we played. I guess you think Southern Miss has the best defensive staff in the nation because they have much better defensive stats than the U has.

Why? Manny was hardly “PROVEN”
Every defensive hire outside of Kool has been criticized on these boards and they’ve all worked out so far
Richt has always done well w defensive coaching hires, no doubt. But there’s a big difference between many and his 2 P5 DC gigs and couple Go5 DC gigs, and a dude who has a total of 8 months as a paid coach.

Cmon

Our defense wasn’t just top 5 in one area. It was top 5 in just about every area. We played a power 5 schedule just like around 70 other teams teams did. IDGAF about no southern miss. The defense did an elite job this year

I guess you don’t remember the meltdown about Manny being a horrible hire because of Texas.

Of course but at least he have track record to look at it. He was a local guy and was comming as part of a new staff. Big difference. And by the way it was not close to a meltdown. It was just the big risk big reward ratio

We played the easiest schedule besides a handful of p5 teams. If we where in any other conference we would be far from the number 3 total defense in the country.

Willie Martinez was an mitigated disaster at GA as DC and Rick was forced to fire him. It doesn’t matter time will tell but this looks like a total Rick panic job in a desperate attempt to save recruiting and be the authoritarian and totalitarian that he is.

I'm no apologist for this hire but "yes men" is a mischaracterization. Rick isn't involved on the D side of the ball so if these are "yes men" then their obsequiousness was to Manny. That said, college staffs are usually comprised of 99% of "yes men" to the head coach......the dude that 99% of the time hired them.

Were we expecting someone to come in on D that was going to be "independent" and fire off criticisms at the offense or something?

Coach richt whether it was the best move or not will be determined, but it was the smartest, cause the early signing period is fastly apporoaching, unless shannon was coming in, there is no time to hire somebody that recruits will flock too. They already got a relationship and know that the defensive staff that recruited them minus diaz is still here. That's not only the smart move for the targeted recruits, but also for alot of the players already here who could actually transfer. So this move covers both sides of the team and remember, coach simpson is the assistant headcoach, which means he has imput on the overall game plans and since coach richt is the oc, that in a sense had made coach jess the untitled d-co. We got a lot of sharp minds on this coaching staff, whoever think coach richt promoted them to be yes men and not because he put winning first, i think the badminton championships are on.

It was highly likely that coach banda was going to be hired to be the d-co at temple anyway, but now coach diaz has to hire from scracth, git er done diaz, git er done. Coach banda got big plans, and jess simpson, he didnt come here to be mediocre. I dont even have to mention coach rumphs mindset, because it is the standard, and patke is getting slept on.

So this move by coach richt was the right move at the right time, more to gain from it than lose.
