Richt on Jarren Williams

Today all the QB’s got a series with the first team. Malik did have more but Richts gonna give those guys an opportunity to step up. Hopefully one of them makes it impossible to ignore them

2/2 - "Obviously everyone needs to earn the right to play at all positions."

So a QB who's now under 50% in his completion for his last 4 games as a "veteran", and has a sub 50% completion rate in 8 of his 14 games deserves to be our QB? The guy, for the last 7 games, has thrown 10 TD's and 12 ints has earned the right to be our starting QB, huh? FML. Somebody get this bible thumper out of my face. Again, bull chit excuses for not wanting to do what's right for the program. TAKE A RISK!

Richt is finding himself in a position he hasn't been in before. His team has the talent to do big things if he plays the players that give him the best chance to win, but he doesn't seem to think those players have "earned" it yet. That's an interesting distinction, & it implies there may be more than football involved. Maybe he feels other responsibilities to these kids in their development as men that he thinks are equally or more important than their playing ability.

The problem with that, & how this mainly differs from other situations he's been in, is that Miami isn't Tallahassee or Athens. It's a major sports city that is dying for a big winner. It's also a city that has seen the Canes put all-time greats in the league. Everybody can see that we need a change behind center. Richt happens to have a guy who I think is one of the best QB prospects anywhere. He clearly agrees, judging by his recent Tweets. This offense will blast off when he puts Jarren in.

It's time for him to open up a fair competition, with all of them getting an equal chance to move the chains & put up points with what they do know, & take his preconceived notions of playbook mastery being critical or them having to do everything off the field perfectly. It's being shown over & over, all over the country, that dynamic execution of fewer plays by a more talented younger QB can win you a championship.

Not doing everything he can within the rules to win would be cheating the rest of his players as well as the fans. Miami has never been like other college jobs. It's a pro town. He needs to start making the tough decisions that will get the most out of group he's put together, which is clearly loaded with talent, or all the momentum from last year takes a serious hit. I'm not gonna say he'll be run out of town like others have, but he'd go down as a legend - in a bad way - when people look back in a few years at what the names on this roster will be doing as pros & see how it went to waste because of personnel decisions. Our guys came to the U to win championships & prepare for the league. That should be the focus.
