Before Coker was replaced, the players on the team, reportly lined up at the
AD office begging the AD to promote Shannon.Players did not have that
chance with Diaz.

No. But I will once Blake James and anybody else making decisions about UM athletics are gone.
You have clearly made your point that YOU NOT LIKE OR APPROVE OF MANNY DIAZ. Duly noted. And we get your point and passion about Blake James and the decision makers. That said, I kindly extend an offer for you to "get gone" until that happens, friend!

The answer is decision making. Diaz continually modified his defense based on actual results. Diaz got DC offers after being fired as a DC at Texas. It took Shannon 7 years and he is at UCF.

Yeah....that will about do it. Thread closed.

All other things aside, Shannon was an extreme introvert. Every time he had to be on camera or talk to press it looked like he was close to having an anxiety attack.....yea not ideal when you have to be a CEO of a major college football program

I understand that but what scheme is Manny’s signature schtick? Shannon was about the Monte Kiffin cover 2 scheme and for example Jim Schwartz was a zone blitz kind of DC.

See this is my knock on Manny what did he do differently to separate himself than the other DCs outside of Dorito? They all utilized the typical downhill aggressive Miami approach so if true why is Manny viewed as some film room wizard and innovator?
Striker position. Identifying problems annually and actually fixing them. Hiring solid coaching staff.

Shannon on top of his own faults, had no budget to hire quality coaches.
Correct. Manny has 1000x better chance of success precisely because of this. The POS skinflint admin that screwed Butch, lazy/incompetent/cheap hired Coker, did the same with Radio. As you said, along with his faults (not good enough CEO to be HC), he had zero financial support from the skinflint admin. He was hiring bottom of barrel coaches with the pathetic budget.
The budget is much better now and Diaz seems to be spending wisely, while getting good fit coaches. We'll see, won't we...

It was for Manny in the position he is in, even I didnt think he would go that far nor bring in another defensive coordinator. One of the reasons I didnt want him, at least he settled that part for me

Manny was friends with the entire staff. To do what he did was ballsy.

He also demoted Patke and Banda and basically said you're not ready yet with the DC hire.

Shannon declined offers to be a DC.

Randy had almost no experience outside of Miami. So not only was his coaching circle very small, he was limited because the administration didn't give him a respectable amount of salary for legit staff members
I'll tell you what UM did give him...13 First Round defensive players from 2001-2006 including multiple All Pros and a HOF safety. His defenses had superior talent, scheme was vanilla.

LMMFAO at "he talks better" as the reason.

Stick to mens fashion, yo.

This too.

That is wrong.

Stoutland is the best OL coach in the business. Tim Walton is in the pros. Pannunzio is a fixture at Bama. McGriff made millions as an NFL coach and later as a DC. Tommie Robinson went to the pros. His DL coaches went to the pros.

Shannon had a good staff. The problem was he didn’t work hard (per multiple staff members) and made bad decisions. That’s why he never got another opportunity.

And his scheme allowed them to maximize their ability...wtf? He was a good DC and a tremendous LB coach during his time here. You don't fault someone for being a **** NFL factory lmao.

So he hired a good staff with no budget.

Randy wasn't the "NFL factory," the University of Miami was a NFL factory. I guess in your mind Edge, C Port, Willis and Gore were "maximized" because of our scheme and Soldinger. No, they were freaks at their position and would have been NFL stars if my dog was their position coach. If Randy was such a great commodity his career path after UM would not be what is is. Nice guy, great Cane, failed as a HC and now bounces around.

Yes, it was the best thing he did.

Then he proceeded to clock out earlier than everybody else, make mind-boggling personnel decisions (he thought Glenn Cook was a better prospect than Beason) and leave us with Wake Forest transfers at CB.

He was terrible, just like the guy before him and the guy after him.
