Press conferences dont mean sht. How great is bill belicheck when it comes to press conferences
Not great personality wise....but like Saban...he gets the respect of each reporter as they hang on to every word he says. Boss mentality. Alpha.

Agreed on the last part , but **** even Alabama hired Mike Shula to run their program at one point, **** even USC cant get it right since Caroll left and they care about football.. Getting the right coach Is not an exact science. You just made this comparison to Randy Shannon for ***** and giggles firing the entire offensive staff is the most ballsy move a UM head coach has done in years. It gives us hope if not anything else. Hated the Shannon hire Hated the Golden hire, I knew what RIcht was, and Meh about MANNY. It is blatantly apparent that football is not a priority to this university with this hire, it is what it is. all we can hope for is luck that we got a first round talent in the 5th round.

I mean, football has never been a priority for UM like it is at Bama, UF, etc.

Still, we won 5 NCs with poor facilities, an unsupportive admin, and an underpaid coaching staff. We did so because of excellent HC hires, and each of those hires was pretty different. As you said, there is not set formula.

Manny might have been a safe/lazy hire, but so was Dabo, so was Ed O, so was Mario at Oregon. How/why he was hired has no relevance to whether he'll suceed. Its what he does moving forwards

Year 1 vs Year 3

Whiskey RB aiming for 300 yards vs Manny's defense in 2019

UCF was undefeated while Manny’s defense was 7-5 despite being #2 in the nation. Oh and Wisconsin’s offense had only 14 points as the 3rd quarter came to close. (That near pick 6 wasn’t on the defense) But let’s ignore the complete offensive ineptitude that made it pointless for the defense in the last game

Miami was 2nd in total D last year, whereas UCF was 86. I'm riding with Diaz.
Randy had all of Butch's players that were coached by Butch and two defensive assistant coaches that went of to become NFL head coaches before Randy came in and took over. They were coached up before Shannon came in. Even Coker won a National title with those players and almost won another. Once those players were all gone the team started its downward trend to nowhere.

#2 defense that was Raped by every offense with a pulse.

The top D-line man Willis was not even playing in the game since he decided he should not play and get ready for the NFL draft.

I agree with some of those points.

Randy only coached for Miami and a few years with the dolphins, before getting hired as a HC.
He was quoted , IIRC at TCu, that he's learned a lot in just one year as a ESPN analyst. He got to visit multiple colleges, where he learned more about different schematics and how to run a program. He never saw how the blue chip programs function, since he spent all of his career at Miami, and most of it under Shalala's tenure.

He didn't know any one when he got hired, so he brought in coaches like: Pat Nix, Ice Harris, Corey Smith, and another local hs coach. He had the benefit of shapiro money with recruiting and still lost recruits. I was coaching during Randy's tenure, and brought multiple kids to both the summer camp (recently known as paradise camp) and to a few practices. I heard him say to a big name prospect (4-5 stars on different sites) who was 5'10-5'11", "we didn't offer you earlier because we heard that you were really under 5'8"." Yeah, I know that's an excuse to try to get a signature late in the game, but you don't try that con and easily expose yourself in-front of both the kid and a bunch of grown ups. Other kids would say after visiting big name schools that Miami coaches would talk to you like pop warner coaches. Most of those kids ended up in the NFL. He would barely talk to recruits at the camp, except for the few that he really wanted, and even then it was mostly the assistants (crime dog, barrow, and the receivers coach).

Manny has coached in the SEC, Big12, ACC, and at the G5 level. I haven't been a fan of his recruiting. However, he at least has seen what it takes to recruit at the elite schools. I'm hoping for good results, but we shall what transpires. This is also makes his coaching network much larger than shannons, before he got the Miami job. Manny's been fired and had to reevaluate his mistakes. Since Texas, he's had success and has shown constant statistical improvement.

Manny was offered a head coaching job at another school. I'm not sure if that was ever offered to Shannon, before he took the Miami job.

To me one does not have to do with the other. Shannon was one of our HC’s and is at UCF now. Manny is the HC currently. Let’s see if he does as well as he possibly can, because that means the Canes are doing well and the fans are happier than they’ve been in quite a long time.
