Random Run Ins

First cane i met was Antrel Rolle. Managed a Radio shack in AZ a while ago. Working one boring *** Tuesday afternoon. Store empty as **** and i see some dude coming through the door decked out in cardinal gear & socks & slides. Before I realized who he was he handed me his blackberry asked if we had a charger for it.

Once i realized who it was we were talking about the canes for a bit. A few others canes and non canes as well. Darnell Dockett was rude as ****, pretty sure it was because he saw my Hurricanes lanyard.

Ran into Clinton Portis one day at the Cadillac dealership on US1, he had just signed with the Redskins and he chopped it up for quite a while with me and my dad. Cool dude and he was making fun of Shockey showing me the yellow hummer he had just bought and how it was “ugly as ****”

Ray Rice in a hotel elevator (no pun intended) in Charlotte the morning after we lost to Clemson. Spoke to him briefly. Definitely was surprised at how short he was. Seemed like a nice dude. Even told his friend to move over bc his friend's bag was hitting my girl on the arm.

Corries Hardy (whom most of you probably never heard of) at his BBQ truck in Bethesda MD.

Where I spend most of my time, you never run into former Cane's....almost never.

While Ries did not have a great career at UM (too much talent at the U ahead of him), we recruited him hard out of Melbourne, FL and he did have a Bama offer back then.

Over the years, ran into some other guys in the D.C. area--Glenn Dennison, Keith Griffin, Rick Cochran--and some guys going back to the late '50's, and the '60's. Most of you would never recognize the names. Haven't run across any recent guys, since I don't get around much anymore. We have had some guys in the D.C.-Balt. connected to the pro teams: Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Willis McGahee, Clinton Portis, but I've never run into any of them.

So there I was photographing the UCF vs. FAU football game last week, and I turn to my left and see none other than Ray MF'n Lewis on the sideline. Went over, shook his hand, and told him Go Canes. This got me thinking:

Who have you RANDOMLY run into (current players/ coaches or alumni) while out and about? Obviously I don't mean at events or pre/post game but just randomly.

A random one. My dad keeps kosher. We went to some Kosher Cajun restaurant in the French Quarter during the 2000 Sugar Bowl trip. Sat next to Sherko Haji-Rasouli. He could not have been nicer. That trip we also walked by the team hotel to see if people were left after the game and wound up watching FSU lose to Oklahoma with the offensive line and their families.

Not even being 1% sarcastic. This has turned into a great thread.

I'll throw mine in. Was a college intern at the old Channel 6 back in the day. Worked for Ed Berliner who was a gigantic douchebag. Anyway, got to ride along to a card signing Vinny was doing right after he won the Heisman. He took a few minutes and did an interview. Nice as can be.

Also stood behind Navaughn Donaldson at the Winn Dixie on Sunset and 87th a few months ago.

Dude is gigantic.

Current players I’ve ran into are Amari Carter and Lorenzo Lingard. Both nice kids.

Former players I’ve met are Edge, DJ Williams, Antrel Rolle, Brett Romberg. Have been around Santana Moss and Bryant McKinnie but they both seemed stand offish.

Of all places I ran into Warren Sapp and Ray Lewis was at the Gainesville mall in 1995 and they were being booted out by security lmao. I had just approached Ray and was giving him some dap getting ready to talk some Cane football when security surrounded them and escorted them out.

I don't even know what the reason was nor do I know why they were even there, considering UM wasn't playing a game against UF. There was one other dude with them but I didn't recognize him.

I have met mike james after he got hurt with tampa down at coral gables. Super nice kid

Also met sunny odogwu. He was massive and when i shook his hand i felt like a git. Super cool
