Quarterback and pass rusher

These are the two most important positions in football. They have the biggest impact on winning, they’re the hardest to find, they get paid the most and they go the highest in the draft.

Miami has a true college star at QB for the first time in 17 years. A month ago in Shreveport, Miami’s QBs were a blooper reel. Now, we have a highlight reel. Teams will need to gameplan against King's running and vertical throwing. The fit and timing could not be better. It took decades of slow death to embrace the spread. King and Lashlee will provide electroshock therapy.

And then there’s the pass rush. This was already the strength of the team. We’ve finished 7th, 2nd and 2nd in sack percentage nationally the past three years. It’s hard to be bad when you rush the passer like that. The only other team that finished Top 10 the past three years was Clemson. By adding Roche, you pair the best returning pass rusher in the nation with another Top 5 guy. And Phillips might be the most talented of the bunch.

Manny failed for a lot of reasons. Several of those issues remain. But he has no more excuses at the two most important positions on the field.

We will see if playing the freshmen on the OL last year pays off. It might have cost us games, but it also was a trial by fire. Scaife was the best OL and I expect that to continue. Donaldson can't possibly go into next season as overweight as he was this year if he has any ambition to get drafted. If he goes back to what we saw his 1st year, we will have a good offensive line. Doesnt have to be great with King at QB. As they say, Clemson hasn't had OL get drafted since 2014. I expect that at least 3 (possibly all but Gaynor) of our projected OL will end up on NFL rosters.

Did Miami magically inherit an OL the same day as getting the QB?

You dopes always forget how awful that group is.

This kid is going to be another average QB standing behind that pitiful OL.
Exactly

That OL is going to be significantly better playing in a uptempo spread. They will go from a diaster to a average unit and that's all we need with King. We're returning every O-Lineman with another year of Development for guys like Campbell,Scaife, Gaynor, Nelson and Clark. We're also going to get Jalen Rivers as a EE who can possibly be a plug in play starter. I would imagine we pick up at least One Plug in play Grad Transfer starter on the OL as well

Strong words, considering what GR15 looked like. Maybe he doesn't have polished pass-rush moves yet, but the talent jumped off the screen.

What are you hearing about Phillips?
Havent seen Phillips take a snap at Miami, but surpassing what Rousseau flashed as a TFrosh and RS Frosh, even just at practices, will be tough to beat. In the practices I got to see in 2018, Rousseau was a **** freakshow. His effect on almost every snap - from live scrimmage to drills - stood out more than any defensive player I'd seen in years.

So you are going the wishful thinking route?

How about every DL we play against in the ACC is also going to improve.

Back to where we were again.

Who is QB2 in your early estimation?

Everybody is excited to see him in pads. He regained the weight he lost and looks like a specimen. Now we need to see how his wrist reacts. He flashed like a first rounder as a freshman.
Can’t wait 🤫. Complete freak show in terms of athleticism and his size.
