A lot of comments without context so here’s the “concern” for me with numbers to show it

Notre Dame:

Miami goes up 21-7 and forces Notre Dame to punt

The next 4 drives we gain 15 yards on 13 plays

South Florida:

The game was a beat down in the final box however Miami goes up 28-6 and forces punt

Next 4 drives combined we gain 66 yards on 13 plays including 2 turnovers

Florida:

We go up 10-0 and our defense is dominating. Forces 4 punts in a row

In the next 6 drives we run 34 plays for 123 yards get a FG and turn it over once

FSU:

We go up 28-3 and force a punt

The rest of the game we run 17 plays for a total of 24 yards

So listen it’s college football. Winning is hard. It’s not PS5 on freshman level

Our defense is routinely putting us in position for kill shots and we are struggling to get it done. Individually it’s not necessarily a big deal and ultimately may not matter but this is the only small alarm bell im concerned with at the moment

Not a “concern” maybe just something worth noting

If Mirabal is dictating the run game that needs to stop. Dawson needs to be the play caller we don’t need Mirabal deciding what we do regarding running. These tight splits in theory would be great but our OL more often than not isn’t getting much with it and it’s Fletch’s size that’s getting those extra 1.5 yards every play.

It’s hard to really say much for me because this was actually an issue last year as well

Remember our issues in the second quarter?

There were some games that we let teams hang around and the defense just couldn’t hold. Thankfully this year they can

I think the refusal of some to recognize this is wildly frustrating. These things bite you in the a** inevitably. I keep reading people say, "everyone complained about the 2001 team too". Yea, well, the greatest team ever assembled almost lost to Boston College. It was unacceptable then and it's unacceptable now. Ed Reed's entire speech in that game was him saying exactly that.

The good news is there is nothing stopping this team from correcting these issues other than themselves. More discipline and better coaching that has a feel for the team and the ups and downs. Dawson needs to learn the ebbs and flows of our current roster and do a better job play calling in the 3rd and 4th.

It's fixable. Be happy about that. If we want it, we can have it.

Only reason I say it is that multiple times Dawson has hinted Mirabal controls the run game

Yeah I think last night people were just drunk and emotional

Our defense is giving us lots of chances which is good…but we need to do better

I could write off the shell game against UF due to rain and UF having a HS offense. This game didn’t have that, it was dry and FSU’s offense had that HR ability. This is something that has to be fixed when if we really want to be fighting in January. Gotta score in every quarter.

Can’t have holding up the fours be a tradition if don’t wanna score then.

Yeah and I’m not panicking or anything it’s just worth noting

I mean we are all sitting here knowing we beat ND/UiF/FSU and feeling like they all should have been bigger beat downs

There’s definitely a glass half full way to look at that

We are ******* people up

5-0 defense has to step up and protect a lead that’s complimentary football.
It’s also complementary football to sustain drives in the 4th qtr when your defense is gassed.

This is an observation, not mopery, but running Lyle up the gut into a stacked line is trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. His strengths are different than Brown or Fletcher. He needs to be utilized for his strengths.

No, it’s a concern and would love to see someone in the media point those specific stats out to Mario and Dawson and see what their answer is. It’s a oroblem

I have no issue discussing the obvious 4th quarter blunder. But the only problem I had was the timing. You had jokers talking about this immediately after the game.. we couldn’t even enjoy the win because of the mopes. This was a rivalry game, on the road against a ranked team and posters couldn’t just enjoy the moment. (And we covered! Lol)

Discussing it today I have no issue with.

I get annoyed with stat and PFF people when they don’t understand the momentum and feel of a football game

Not to be the “IF YOU PLAYED THE GAME YOU KNOW” clown but there’s a vibe when you have the other team on the ropes

To be fair teams like Notre Dame and FSU have good players and they fight off the ropes too so it’s not ALWAYS about just us

But the proof is in the numbers so far

So what you’re saying is we haven’t reached our ceiling yet

I like some whiskey every now and then but I figured I’d wait for the clearly hammered drunk people to sleep it off before bringing it up 🤣

The way I see it, aside from the Notre Dame game, our players tend to think the game is over once we build a lead. Then the drive killing penalties start piling up on both sides of the ball, and guys stop playing their assignments, the same assignments that got us the lead in the first place. The third quarter last night was some sloppy football with us playing down to them.

I understand what Mario is trying to do, but when you keep shooting yourself in the foot with procedural mistakes, it is tough to execute that plan. On offense, the false starts are killing us whenever he tries to shift into that grind it out mode. On defense, they were gassed, but they also stopped maintaining gap integrity and got sloppy on the backside in coverage. All those things that were working so well the first three quarters, the discipline, the assignments, the execution, went right out the window and they played right into Malzahn’s scheme.

It ultimately falls on the head coach to correct that and instill a consistent culture. The concerns are valid, people were saying last year the defense could eventually cost us, and it did. Let’s see what happens after the bye.

Great points

The penalties on offense, especially the ones on the OL have been massively frustrating

I agree with you where I understand what we are trying to do. Get the lead lean on our best and put the game away (the run game) but we are just getting sloppy at the wrong times
