We know Butch will bring in the studs, hopefully he gets the staff to put the whole thing together.

IDK how I should feel. On one side I love Butch and I'm ecstatic that he's the guy and not some clown like Wario... on the other I kinda wanted Richt. Let's see and hope Butch gets a killer staff

Lots of respect to you.
Like you, I wanted a coach with a new approach.
I wanted to get into the 21st century.
Fresh ideas, etc.
But I'm not going to throw a tantrum if it's Butch or Schiano.
This program needs our support.
 
I was ok with butch as a fall back , not his biggest fan . But "if" he is hired , I'll know four things will happen

1. The team will be tough , his practices are legendary
2. We'll be physical, noses will be bloodied
3. There'll be talent , best evaluator I've seen
4. The staff will be good, especially with the money being talked about.

I'd preferred other guys , but we could've done way worse.

Come on son...I'm with you on doing due diligence on everybody outside of Butch, but you can't possibly be talking about SoCal talent compared to SoFla. There's no other area in the country like it. NOWHERE.

USC has found a way to win multiple titles on the backs of those SoCal kids since Butch's time at UM and before it as well. We can add that USC when at its peak controls the whole state along with being a national brand that can get kids from all over. Are you saying that John Robinson didn't have the access to the quantity and quality of talent that Butch will possibly have.

Yes. John Robinson didn't have access to the same quality that Pete Carroll had access to. Pete Carroll got studs from Jersey (Jarrett. Cushing), from Florida, (Keith Rivers), from Louisiana( Joe McKnight), and from SoCal. The reason the Miami and USC jobs are so unique is because you have access to the best local talent, and can recruit the best national talent. Butch had great local talent (Taylor, McGahee, Andre Johnson and Nate Webster), but he was also able to get elite national talent. Cali (D.J Williams), Texas (Lewis, Franks), Louisiana ( Reed, Wayne) and New Jersey (C. Green and J. Green).

I'd be more ready to accept the Butch hire if I knew we held an honest search consisting of candidates outside of the "MIAMI GUYZ!" bubble.

If we aggressively pursued coaches I feel are better qualified, and failed, it would make it easier to embrace this hire. But if we simply hired Butch without exploring other options, it strikes me as lazy and a disservice to this program.

Reasonable. But embrace it, brother. Compare where we are to where we were two months ago. Butch is obsessed with turning Miami around. He'll do it or die trying (literally). First glimmer of hope in a decade.

I hear ya. I'm excited for Butch. I had him 3rd or 4th on my list.

It's good to know at the minimum we'll no longer be soft, we'll be playing actual defense once again, and kids like Skai Moore will no longer be leaving South Florida. I'm excited to see how guys like Redwine, Jaquan, and Norton develop under a real staff.

I just wanted those in charge to make sure they were making the best possible hire for the program. I'll be even more excited when Butch holds his presser because the dude can talk. It's a good hire.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly about the "search"

I like Butch and am optimistic. I know he will have passion for the job. Want to see his OC hires before I get excited. Hope he has learned a bit during his time in the booth. No Coker or Shoop type.

In all serious, if you transported the 2000 Canes into 2015 do they not run the table?

If Butch gets it, and I think that's the working assumption, he probably sold them on paying top money to coordinators and paying him less.

They may have 1 or 2 close games but yeah they run train on the ACC. Clemson would have been the only game we could have said yeah we might lose that 1. People acting like we didn't search? We don't know that, maybe they reached out to 15 coaches and all but 2 or 3 were like nah Miami hasn't won a bowl game in **** near a decade and hasn't won a Natty in **** near 15. When we start winning again and start making the acc chip maybe we can attract some good prospects but we havent even won our own **** division in the acc, this isn't some amazing job anymore. It is a good job with good talent and easy access to more talent but can you deal with Sunlifeless, the schitty fans, and South FLA in general? People need to wake up and understand its a what have you done lately not what did you do when the coaches we are talking to were in HS.

I'd bet he has gotten majority of his staff in order.

He probably showed it to Blake . And that didn't hurt his chances .

LOL so now Butch is gonna run the S&C program too right. Just like Al was gonna? Butch had the luxury of employing the GOAT S&C coach during his tenure. If he keeps Swasey, his miraculous development skills are going to look a lot different.
