Def old school for me. I dont mind the NIL at all, good for the kids.

The transfer portal is a problem though and that in turn makes NIL something that its not supposed to be.

Kids should be able to transfer, but must sit a year. Or could get a waiver under very STRICT criteria.
I'm fine with NIL as well. But ... what exactly is NIL "supposed to be"? Before it was OK'd, I'd always heard it was about allowing players to earn enough to have some "realistic" pocket money. Maybe it was envisioned but I never heard six (seven?) figure payouts mentioned.

Are players' names, images and likenesses on billboards for businesses in South Fla, are ads featuring players up and running on local TV? Are they cutting ribbons at the openings of new businesses? What/where is the return on investment here (and elsewhere around the country)?

Don't think you can restrict movement. That's what the courts have unanimously ruled against, right?

Not sure what to think yet

There will be some self correcting on some completely unsustainable practices that might change my mind

I think it’s a good thing but also we knew this NIL thing would be a Pandoras Box as well

Too much bull **** today. A license to steal along with no guidelines or regulations. The only real canes are those sticking to see it through. At this point NIL and the portal are destroying the game. The out right buying of players is conveniently covered by name image and likeness. The portal has made it very convenient for the players to hold programs hostage. Loyalty of any kind to the school the alum and the fans is a thing of the past. Loyalty and respect are two words with no meaning today.

Are we answering this strictly from the perspective of a fan, or are we also taking into consideration what is best for the student athletes? Sorry to come off as such a lawyer, but there is a difference. My fandom is necessarily selfish. But my view of what is best for the kids is often contrary to what the fan in me wants.
I will give you an example. It bothers me as a fan that players can hold schools hostage with the transfer portal/NIL, as TVD recently did, or Isiah Wong may have done last year.
But as an uncle, I advised my nephew at Stetson where he is a first team all conference basketball player, to go see his coach and demand more NIL money and to do it now while the transfer portal is still open and my nephew has leverage.
I recognize the inherent contradiction in these positions but it exists because the fan in me wants what is best for UM, and the uncle in me wants my nephew to make as much money as possible.

I’m going good old days cause I loved the one recruiting date in February where I’d take off from work or go in late so I could find out who we got and how it compared to other teams classes.

This new mess with kids coming ,kids going some kids commit on one date some on another isn’t for me cause I’m too old to put in the 15-16 hours a day trying to keep up with whose on the team and who isn’t.I fall asleep before I can get through the 20 threads telling me who is now here and who isn’t and by the time I get up half those kids that were here are now in the portal and kids that weren’t here when I went to sleep are now here through the portal.

The KISS method is best for us old guys and this new type recruiting ain’t that…

It's good from a fan's perspective because there's always news and rumor nearly year-round now, which makes it fun.

It is, however, unsustainable and some rules need to be put in place. It is a little too messy these days. And I kinda feel bad for the smaller schools that will get poached when a kid turns out to be a stud. It's basically pro free agency now but there are no contracts binding players to a team for a certain time period.

(I accidentally voted (a). Should be (c) though.)

This is missing a critical response or it needs altering. If you have good ole days - I don’t know who’s on my team, that skews it. There should then be one for - pre -nil though I follow and keep up with my team.
Fair.

If you remind yourself that paying players has always existed, there's no reason to get upset about NIL. If anything NIL has made it OK for everyone to do it instead of just the handful of schools the NCAA turned a blind eye towards.

It’s a good poll. I’m not against NIL because aside from the players finally earning income, it’s allowed us to compete. It’s not manageable right now though. We need to take advantage of it as best we can right now. This period will one day look back upon similar to the collapse of the USSR when the oligarchs made their initial moves and bones.

Its fun to follow because of the newness of it all...but its gotten old pretty quick and its clear there are some reforms that need to be made...after those court cases, its seemingly the wild west. Some rules, codes of conduct, and guidelines are needed.

Agree and that was kinda the impetus behind making it. Right now I'm afraid to buy a jersey cause who knows who'll be wearing it from year to year lol.

thing that ****es this old guy off is changing the rules with the new continuously running clock!!!
new rule this year creates shorter ganes because the powers that be think traditional length of play is too long for the attention span of girls and ****
and they want to tap into those audiences at the risk of ruining the greatest gane ever created!
Yeah, stop with this ****. I don’t care how old or how “old school” you are. These days are over on here.

We have some posters who are women and some who are *** and they’re Canes fans too.

While I also dislike the running clock rule, the game has gotten significantly longer in recent years. The average game was 3 hours and 27 minutes last year. Just 5 years ago the average game was 3 hours and 18 minutes. They were mostly under 3 hours back in the 80's and 90's.

I'm one of the few, the proud, who enjoy it. It benefits Miami football and gives Mario one more arrow in his recruiting quiver. Plus, it gives us **** to talk about during the dead season.

Buying players has been going on for decades - and only SOME of the all-time winning programs year after year were taking advantage of their decades-old bag game/dealership game/hiring parents/buying momma a house - and easy walk around cash in addition.

Thanks to NIL - anyone can benefit their business by paying players openly - which doesn't exactly equal the big name bag game - but it gives others who follow the rules - a better chance to enhance their own programs.

I mean - who in HADES would choose Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Ohio State, Nebraska, etc., on purpose - if they weren't pretty much paid to go there?

Auburn? Alabama? LSU? I mean - name one draw!
