Post-camp thoughts

Just saying if a fan says they’re skeptical I don’t think they’re just an *******

My biggest question mark with the receivers is someone gonna step up like X?

Who is the alpha dog in the group? X was the “thermometer”. That stuff matters

If you’re telling me the alpha dog in the room is a kid that’s still supposed to be in high school then yeah I’m gonna need to see that
To be fair, the #2 WR in CFB last season was still supposed to be in HS. Not saying they’re the same, but it isn’t unheard of.

Absolutely

Ryan Williams was also still a top 10 all world 5 star recruit despite reclassifying

Toney was barely a top 50 receiver in the composite

I just don’t much see the point of people talking about Toney and Lofton the way they do but what do I know

Sorry to **** on everyone’s parade, but did anyone else read between the lines in regards to the WR comments? If we’re relying on Toney to be WR1 or 2, we pretty much struck out in the portal at that position. I didn’t have much hope for Marion (he’s an elite special teams player but a rigid route runner and it doesn’t seem like the light will go on here), and Johnson is a depth addition. Kind of knew that already, so no change there.

But… If Daniels isn’t being talked about like he should he putting up close to 1k receiving yards, I’d be concerned about the unit. Relying on TF…especially one that’s supposed to still be at American Heritage… that’s a bold strategy cotton.

I do think the defense will be a top 40 unit in America, so the expectations should be playoffs or bust. The pass rush should be improved, but I am still worried about defending the run on the interior.

Until they get it done in games it doesn’t mean much. But I’ll just point out that it’s consistent from coaches, players and practice goers.
I’ll say what I thought was cool about Lofton was I remember people not really affiliated with the program singling him out saying his number

Like whoever 9 was is a baller

Hoping we get the upperclassmen leadership step up like we did last year so these young guys can do their thing

Also not referring to you with my last post but I think you know that

I think the defense will be better this year for no other reason than I don’t think they’ll be standing around looking to the sidelines as the balls being snapped this year.

Last year they reminded me of runners at the starting line of a sprint looking around to see when they were to get set while the starter had yelled go and the other runner had taken off.

Forget not knowing the call by snap they had no clue how to even lineup or adjust to motion. It’s was so ******* pathetic.

I hear you. I hope it translates to the field, but I won’t count the production until I see it.

I've been hearing for over a year now that Lofton projects as a "backfield" player in the NFL.

Why are we not playing him there now?

If a young college guy has NFL upside at a position, he should be playing there now.

Any reason not to is an excuse to mask the lack of recruiting at thst position across 4 years.

I see him as a H-back do it all guy. Not sure he will be a top stats guy ever, but he does all the little things to keep himself on the field in some capacity.

I’m excited to hear that Toney pulled away from the competition in the slot. Can’t replace X, but if he’s clearly better than Ray Ray, than the floor is higher than expected and the drop off at that position may not be as steep as we all feared when X graduated.

Think the key is Jojo. We desperately need a #1 wr that defenses respect with the utmost. That makes it easier for everyone else. I love our running game, but I have a feeling that will be where ND will try to focus its efforts and we will need a big game out Beck and the WRs. There should be plenty of 1v1 opps.

The WRs ability to create separation will ultimately determine our fate against ND and possibly the season.

I'm generally optimistic with this year's squad and expect us to make the playoffs; however, I do have the following concerns (in order of decreasing anxiety):

1. WRs (Deep squad of playmakers or JAGs?)
2. DT (Will Scott step up? How will Blay play against P4 talent? Is a predominantly 3-man rotation enough?)
3. Kicker (Both guys are mid)
4. Safety (Unproven depth, Relying on a true frosh scares me, Can Thomas cover or is he just a thumper?)
5. Coaching (How many games will Mario cost us?...could have easily put this as #1)

We will find out soon enough.

Go 'Canes!

I don't think we NEED a 1k yard guy. We've only had like 3 in last decade. Id expect this year to have a bunch more guys with like 300-400 yards than we usually have so we will have more productive guys than normal. The top guy might have around 800, but we might have like 5 or 6 guys over 400 type... I'd also expect to run the ball more. Last year I think the pass call rate was 65%. I think that drops around 5%. And that's call rate.

Like would it be surprising if like JoJo and Daniels had around 600-750, Toney had around 600, Marrion and Lofton have 400, Moore has around 300+, and then like Tony Johnson, Ray Ray, Upshaw, Chance, and Bauman are all above 200? ...

24: Restrepo 1,127. George 752. Horton 615. Arroyo 590. = 3,080 or 771 avg... With #1 Offenze in country

23: Restrepo 1,090. George 860. Young 563. Smith 263. = 2,776 or 694 avg...

16: Ahmmon 934. Coley 754. Njoku 698. Herndon 334. = 2,720 or 680 avg.

21: Rambo 1,172. Harley 543. Key Smith 405. Restrepo 345. 2,465 or 616 avg

20: Harley 799. Jordan 576. Pope 403. Wiggins 358. = 2,136 or 534 avg

17: Berrios 679. Herndon 477. Ahmmon 439. J thomas 374. = 1,969 or 492 avg

19: Osborne 547. Jordan 495. Harley 485. J Thomas 435. = 1,962 or 490 avg

22: Mallory 538. Young 367. Smith 308. Ladson 298. = 1,511 or 377.75 avg

18: J Thomas 563. Cager 374. Jordan 287. Harley 240. = 1,464 or 366 avg

Go 'Canes!

You have to have LB in there as well. Wes doesn’t know playbooks, Popo isn’t fast enough. toure coming off injury and the they have Pruitt helping at safety. We will know a lot more after the ND game.
