Per a porster on CS..Robert Burns status

While some of this is (really) funny and the story is possibly a bit concerning, I'm all for giving this kid the benefit of the doubt instead of continually slurping the local punks that have no motive aside from legit playing us as they dream of college paradise in Bumfuk, USA.

"If and I do say If, Miami feels they were deceived by Burns they would have to honor his Grant - In -Aid agreement for 1 year then simply not renew it or more likely offer him a medical hardship scholarship but that would end his playing career not only at Miami but everywhere else."

It does not end his career.

15.5.1.2.1 Incapacitating Injury or Illness. If an incapacitating injury or illness occurs prior to a prospective
student-athlete’s or a student-athlete’s participation in athletically related activities and results in
the student-athlete’s inability to compete ever again, the student-athlete shall not be counted within the
institution’s maximum financial aid award limitations for the current, as well as later, academic years. However,
if the incapacitating injury or illness occurs on or after the student-athlete’s participation in countable
athletically related activities in the sport, the student-athlete shall be counted in the institution’s maximum
financial aid limitations for the current academic year but need not be counted in later academic years.
(Adopted: 1/10/91, Revised: 3/26/04, 9/18/07)
15.5.1.2.2 Change in Circumstances. If circumstances change and the student-athlete subsequently
practices or competes at the institution at which the incapacitating injury or illness occurred, the student athlete
again shall become a counter, and the institution shall be required to count that financial aid under
the limitations of this bylaw in the sport in question during each academic year in which the financial aid
was received.

I meant that as in no school would offer the a injured player a roster scholarship that was formerly on a medical hardship at another school when they can go out an recruit a healthy player.

Name one player that has come off of a medical hardship at one university that was given a football scholarship at another FBS school.

anyway the game is starting catch up at half time.

This isn't a huge deal. It's not like we're running out of scholarships. We have 25 to give right now, plus more slots can be freed with jettisoning a few more deadweight kids.

If Burns actively lied to us, we honor his schollie for one year, and that's it. If we give Burns the benefit of the doubt, he gets a hardship schollie which frees up his schollie for another RB, but still allows him to get a full ride here.

Clearly, you do not understand how the "initial counter" rule works.

So if Miami is bothered by his recent injury then the could simply go out and recruit a 3rd running back for the 2017 class (it is not like there won't be extra scholarships left over for 2017).

**** Miami could take a look at 2017 RB Delmonte Hall from Desoto, LA he is not 1 FBS because he is from small town Louisiana. The young man is like a supercharged bowling ball with legs! Supposedly he has 3.2 GPA an passing ACT score.

The kid is playing against midgets and it takes him a good 3 seconds to get his motor running, will be a great late add for Tulanr or La Laf.

Tulane puts running backs in the league, so **** off

Or better yet Miami could go after 2017 RB Cordarrian Richardson (Trezevant HS in memphis , TN) who recently decommitted from Clemson. I think he the nations # 6 ranked running back. His high school is in the midst of an academic scandal but the Richardson is supposedly in the clear. He is a two time Mr. Football in Tennesse, same league that Corn Elder to miami an he turned out pretty good for miami.

This guy is a powerback. Saw a vid breaking down the top rbs. Dude is big with tree trunks for legs. Would take in a heartbeat.

Didn't he sign the GA? Doesn't that mean Miami has to honer his scholarship?

UM has to honer his scholarship. However, UM does not have to honor his scholarship.

Or the opposite of that.

So basically UM has the choice to honor his scholarship or not, thanks for clearing that up.

Hey, rocket scientist, it was a critique of spelling. Thanks for missing that TWICE.

Hey, grammar ****, I'm sure all 14 of your posts, in 5 years, have been great contributions to the board.

Oh, how original...a post-count criticism. Because, you know, that explains YOUR stupidity. And your inability to differentiate between grammar and spelling.

Here's an idea. If you don't know how to spell a word, don't use the word. And don't blame others for your mistakes.

Look up the rules. You know how to Google.

You can't open up 85 scholarships simply by booting your entire roster. In ADDITION to an overall scholarship limit of 85, there are "initial counter" rules that limit how many scholarships may be awarded EACH YEAR. You don't get "25 PLUS however many guys you can kick off the team". That's not how the rules work.

It just gets tiring to watch uninformed people pontificate on how big our recruiting class will be, based on their misunderstanding of NCAA rules.

The only thing that allows us to exceed 25 is the number by which we were UNDER 25 last year (including the early entrant issue). In other words, we would have to know how many recruits from last year counted against 2015, specifically. And you can't just ignore the early entrants, as a prior coach may have burned that bridge by oversigning. It is hard to know the EXACT number, without being a coach or a recruiting reporter who has followed the issue since the rule was enacted.

But the one thing that I DO KNOW is that you can't increase your number of initial counters by kicking kids off the team.
