OT (well, kind of) Punishment Excessive?

@OriginalGatorHater like all of us have different ideas of “values”, “integrity”, “morals”, “ethics” … or, even what is “honorable”. There are many things in my life I would do, or don’t do, that to others on this board would be offensive. Again, who’s honor, values, integrity, morals or ethics?

This board constantly uses the R-word (rednecks) and it’s a word that I never use in my personal life and have no earthly reason to use - though I’ve heard people I know describe themselves that way. Their word, they can use it. I can’t; and I have no problem with it. Some might consider it honorable; just part of my code and recognizing that everything isn’t for me.

Others don’t feel that way. Their “code”, their “honor”, their “ethics”, their “morals”, their “integrity”, their “values” and sometimes even their “religion” does not extend beyond theirselves or their groups. As an example, check out this poster’s “honor”…

And I stand by what I said because it's what I believe.

It's obvious. You don't like me. You don't like who I am or what I stand for. But I treat people the same way; equal and one at a time.

And I don't treat a race with kid gloves. Doing so is the precise defintion of racism. If you're still upset with me calling a black boy, a 'boy', well sorry.

Actually, not sorry at all.

At least with me, you get who you get. Not say one thing and do another. Otherwise, I'd stop driving a truck and run for political office.

Punishing other kids, coaches, and parents for something one person did. Stupid as **** and has nothing to do with "integrity." It's just a weird and disproportionate reaction.
The whole team was on it. Everybody knew and said nothing.
Maybe if you know a lot more details you could be less critical.

Who's going to risk defying the coach? Had someone said something, they'd be the one everyone's mad at. This is on the coach and the kid.
What about the other coaches? Players parents? No one thought it was wrong?

I read 3 articles and did not see that in the evidence in any of them.

Wrong enough to risk the ire of the whole school? How many people defy their boss?

I forgot about the parents. If they knew, punish them too if you can.

So you think they can pull this stunt with only the head coach and the suspended player knew about it? A suspended player plays the whole game using a freshman's jersey? What about the freshman player who received the accolades for the "performance"? How about the position coach and the other players on the team who blocked for this RB?
Common friend.

Of course you stand by it. You’re the type who believes YOUR word. YOUR values, YOUR morals, YOUR ethics, and what you call “honor” has value. That was the point of my post; maybe you could read it slower. I suggest following along the letters with your fingers; maybe even sound out the words.

This is going to terrify you but … I’m not upset with you. Never have been. You are what you are...a truck driver - like anyone thought YOU would be a politician...the simplicity of that kind of “honor” is too ironic (or maybe oxymoronic is a better description) to be hypocritical.

Yeah, because you put the word honor in quotes just for fun. Please don't insult my intelligence and be "intellectually dishonest".

Yes, it is my word...because it's all I have. I will not die a rich man. I know this; I've made peace with it. So my little simplistic honor is good enough for me.

And yes, no one would mistake me for running for office. Obviously a barb on your part to your preception of my low intelligence, but I would unironically reply with, "You're goddamned right."

Damned elitists. Turning their noses down at people who don't have tax shelters and don't drive foreign cars.

Crawl back in your ivory tower, sip on your $10 coffee and let the real men down below get things done.

So you think they can pull this stunt with only the head coach and the suspended player knew about it? Not the freshman player, not the position coach and not the other players on the team?

I might change my mind on the proportionality of cancelling a season if "everyone" were in on it, but that is not at all clear from those articles.

I don't know who was in on it and who wasn't, but you chose to go ahead and state that "everyone" (i.e., HC, staff, parents, other players were) was in on it. You passed that off as a fact without actually having the evidence.

I don't use words like "everyone" unless it was actually everyone.

Well, I edited the post while you were replying. Just think about it for a second and tell me how the wrong player can do this the whole game, score tons and win the game without "most" know about it.

Your “honor“ means nothing to anyone else. Many wouldn’t consider it honorable at all. The fact that you can’t doesn’t make it dishonest, it just makes you dishonest.

..And, pray tell, what is my honor?

Since you obviously know who I am, know my life experiences, know my value systems....tell us all!

What is *your* honor? What have you done to benefit society, stand by the weak, do service before self?

I imagine, nothing. Zilch.

And no, my life hasn't been all about that. In fact, as a younger guy I was selfish and made a lot of mistakes.

But the difference between you and I is that I can readily admit my faults.

So lets think for a minute here and see how this can happen and be kept secret:

The QB didn't know who he was handing to ball to........
The OL and the WR's didn't know who they were blocking for.......
The RB coach didn't know how come the freshman is suddenly became this good.....
The trainer did not know the identity of the RB who he was treating..........
The equipment guy was fooled who was dressed for the game.......
The families of all players involved didn't know.....
Ok, yeah all the above didn't know what was going on.

If I had to guess, multiple coaches were involved.

But I wouldn't even use the word "most" without knowing considerably more information.

Accusations are not evidence. Assumption of guilt based on someone's affiliation with an organization or a person is extremely dangerous.

On topic, probably most of the team knew.

I saw that mentality in pop warner. Coaches were trying to falsify older kids birth certs to play with younger kids.

When every single large business in the world is "cheating". You need to cheat to be able to compete with them.
Since its a football message board. Look at football. You have Urban Meyer winnings NCs while covering up Hernandez murdering people. The pouncey twins committing tons of crimes. Among tons of other crimes.

You have Saban winning tons of NCs while covering up tons of crimes of his players. Like the guys getting caught driving around with illegal guns and illegally paying players

Jimbo winning an NC while covering up a rape, domestic abuse, and tons of other crimes.

Dabo winning an NC covering up tons of crime and illegally paying players.

Then you have the goodie goodies that want to "play fair" and they never even sniff the playoffs.
LMAO
