OT (well, kind of) Punishment Excessive?

And I stand by what I said because it's what I believe.

It's obvious. You don't like me. You don't like who I am or what I stand for. But I treat people the same way; equal and one at a time.

And I don't treat a race with kid gloves. Doing so is the precise defintion of racism. If you're still upset with me calling a black boy, a 'boy', well sorry.

Actually, not sorry at all.

At least with me, you get who you get. Not say one thing and do another. Otherwise, I'd stop driving a truck and run for political office.

His statement has nothing to do with him "liking you or disliking you". He is just stating a fact. Like you said, you are happy with driving a truck. That is great. Some people are happy sitting around collecting welfare. Some people are happy flipping burgers. Some people are happy salting fries. As long as they have food on the table for their family they are happy.

However, when you have people that want to become rich or they want to go down in history, they are not going to "follow the rules". They are going to do whatever they can to get an edge. This country would not be where it is today if they always went by the book. Imagine if the early Americans said "well you know, it is illegal to vandalize a tea ship".

First I never said I'm happy driving a truck. I'm a professional tradesman; I do it for the money. I hope you are not comparing me to a minimum wage worker or someone who games the system with welfare. Hopefully in the coming years, I can go back to school and become a mechanical engineer. Although I am a professional tradesman, this is grueling, mind numbing and unhealthy work that I do.

Second, the early Americans were being killed in massacres and taxed without representation. Morally speaking, that's a far cry from a drug dealer preying on peoples' addiction, or a politician stepping on poor people so they can be filthy rich.

Martin Luther King did not follow the rules because the rules weren't just. Black folks needed equal rights, and that was that.

There are people who have made history and have become wealthy or famous not being total pricks or corrupt.

Besides that, you are comparing integrity to following the rules. Those two things are not mutually inclusive to each other. Sometimes, integrity has to demand that you *break* the rules.

You said "Otherwise, I'd stop driving a truck ". I took that to mean you were happy with it. I was mistaken. Minimum wage workers work is also grueling, mind numbing, and unhealthy.

I don't see why drug dealers are getting brought into this, unless you are talking about the CEOs of the drug companies.

Famous, sure. Wealthy, that is very rare. The vast majority of higher up in the fortune 500 companies, on wall street, in silicon valley, etc. are not upstanding citizens. Regardless of the facade they push to the general public. They are literally handcuffing themselves by following some "moral code" that they push onto themselves.

Right now you are showing just how ridiculous the definition of integrity is. Plenty of people in positions of power though MLK and the forefathers were not "good people". Plenty of people consider following the laws as a the main part of being "morally good".

Got caught? You’ve lost me there OGH. But I have no doubt you’ll set me straight!

My bad. I misread your statement. I thought you were saying "you cheated, got caught and it cost you multiple promotions".

I see what you are saying, but it is a very common fallacy. Basically, unless you are very involved in high level finance/business. The only time you hear about corruption in the business world is when someone gets caught. So since you only hear about the guys getting in trouble. You think "well every single guy that I ever heard about cheating, got caught cheating". However, that is because you never heard of the other 99.9999% that are getting away with it.

Agree that you only hear about those that get caught with their hands in the cookie jar. Same can be said about most any “sensational” story. The media loves them.

LOL at the bs in this thread.

Conscientiousness is a much more reliable predictor of success than cheating.

Reading comprehension much? Where did I write he served the suspension???
I wrote: the team knew

You responded: Maybe not ... ‘Coach could have told them he served the suspension for the jamboree.’

Your words. If he had served his suspension, why did he wear someone else’s name and number?

For sure 100%. Believe me. As a kid I always thought based on movies and media that the guys who break the rules/laws always get caught. Then when I got involved in finance I quickly realized. The opposite is pretty much the case.
