Dude was my hero growing up. My family is in the music industry and I got to see him up close at a NAMM show exhibitors booth. He was an absolute worlock with the guitar. Then he marries my childhood crush. Panama is my ringtone -- Coolest ringtone in the organ business. :)

RIP Eddie

Its Van Hagar bro. DLR was a perfect fit for a young VH, but im just glad we got more EVH after that breakup...
Either works. Just wasn't a big fan after dlr. Funny that starting in the early 90s most of the kids only knew the Sammy version. Really was like 2 different bands.

Van Halen was one of the Hair Band kings.

A trained ear when you listened to Eddie could make you know he was classically trained.

He was very, very good.

Personally, I think Stevie, Chet, and Jimmy Page were a half a step above Eddie, but that's sort of saying one Lamborghini is better than the other because one has leather seats, and one has suede seats.

One of the best to ever do it. RIP.

Just my personal preference. Was never a fan of DLR. Eddie and Micheal’s background vocals were unbelievable - especially Michael.
Sammy Hagar had a much better voice and way more talent. DLR had equipment the VH brothers did not have in the beginning to get the band going. About twenty years ago this long-haired burnt out looking dude was always getting dropped off by a taxi across the street from where I lived. Then later picked up. I finally realized it was David Lee Roth that was always hooking up with an old girlfriend. She looked like an old many miles put on her groupy that you could tell was smoking hot back in her day. She was a friend of one of my girlfriends and then heard some crazy stories.

I was no kidding about to ask if it was was a Schecter... it resembled one I had years ago...
I love it. But I'm also really green and couldn't tell you of its an amazing guitar yet lol

Just got good at drop tuning the floyd. Nothing in my life so far had been as hard and as straight exhilarating as learning to play on a Floyd.

I came of age when 5150 was on the radio. My older brothers made sure I knew about early VH. Your'e very right - 2 different bands. But 1984 was a pretty much a segue into a Roth-less VH. For better or worse EVH had different plans musically. I love both versions to be honest.

Man.. this ******* year is taking a lot. There have been 4 bands that have gotten me through my internal struggles with life. Of those 4, three of them were really based on one member of the band. Those three are now gone. Chris Cornell, Neil Peart, and Eddie Van Halen are those dudes. When God takes Steve Harris He's gonna have an all time rock band. I'll be holding a grudge for taking these dudes waaay to early.

2020 been so crazy... might as well JUMP

I worked security for Van Halen for the 1984 tour. After the Pittsburgh show in early March, Eddie, who had a well known scat fetish, started screaming, "I want a Pittsburgh platter!! I'm in Pittsburgh, and I want the town specialty!" He begged me for a solid half hour to **** on the glass table he was lying under. Eventually, after some significant monetary enticement, I squatted over the table. Unbeknownst to me, Eddie pulled the table away and took a face full of muck and then screamed, "I always loved Cleveland better!"

Dude, talk about flailing and deflecting, you bring up wealth redistribution in a thread about a rock ‘n’ roll star that died. What the fūck does it even have to do with this topic? Why even bring that up?

You’re a lousy socialist/commie piece of shlt that wants other peoples money. Hey, how about this, why don’t you fūcking work for it? You and your commie friends can suck my dlck. LOL - you're not getting anything from me.

What i'm saying is not registering because you're an ideological partisan hack. You think America had Socialism/Communism after the great depression and post WW2 era up until Nixon's presidency when income inequality was far less pronounced due to progressive taxation, wage controls, increased public employment, growth of labor unions, and increases in educational attainment? Beginning in the late 70's, regressive taxation & neoliberal policies began to favor capital over labor, and worker salaries stagnated despite increased productivity, which ultimately led to inequality returning to pre-Depression-era levels. I know you're not the sharpest tool in the shed, but do you understand now, how income inequality is not the result of personal virtue or class jealousy?? You should ask yourself if you were currently a part of the bottom 50% who only possessed 3% of the wealth, would you still vehemently oppose wealth redistribution?? You and I both know the answer to that question. Of course not because you're morally bankrupt, and lack even an ounce of integrity & character. If your fealty to individualism stems from socio-economic status, then that's not a legitimate reason to preserve or uphold the current political & economic system/institution because that essentially means your freedom is infringing on someone else's.

Now your next homework assignment is to understand why grotesque levels of income inequality & corporatism are just as much of a threat to your life, liberty & happiness as a tyrannical govt. is. I know this is going to be a difficult assignment for you, but if you try really hard, you'll get it. I don't think your brain will explode. No more reading Milton Friedman & Thomas Sowell for you. It's turning your brain to mush
