OT: Dolphins 2nd/3rd Round Draft Picks

I don't believe they reached for Gesicki. He has a consensus 2nd round grade. Is he the right guy? Time will tell. The analysts are mainly comparing him to Zach Ertz. If he's close to Ertz we're good.
He would have to be a top 3-5 TE essentially to be compared to Ertz. Not saying it can't happen but Ertz is one of the best tight ends in the league.

Ertz didn't test well coming out but he was productive and i really liked his ability to get open and make plays. He's better in pads than in the underwear olympics.

In the right scheme, Gesicki can be a huge weapon.....all depends on the coaches.

Ertz has three straight seasons of 70+ catches and over 800 yards receiving. It's a lot to ask someone to be that consistently productive.

Gesicki might be the worst blocker i've ever seen.

If Miami doesn't use him correctly, the pick won't make much sense. He's not physical and doesn't work the underneath routes very well.....he's more effective running verticals (seams, posts, corners, etc). If used correctly, he can be a weapon but you must flex him and use motion to isolate against LBs/DBs and not keep him in-line.
Kinda like how I expect us to use Will Mallory.

Absolutely. But that offense runs through him because he's a great route runner with reliable hands. Gesicki is not that player. He would be more big play/redzone than heavy catch production because the skillsets are just different.

I'm not saying he's like Ertz, I'm saying that's the comparison multiple analysts are giving Gesicki. I think he has some Ertz/Rudolph/Eifert characteristics. Was a much better pick than, say, Jerome Baker.

There's about a 0.001% (probably too high) chance he has better career than any of those players in that image. There's actually a 0% chance he has a better career than Brown and Megatron.

Is a second round TE supposed to have a better career than a WR who was the second overall draft pick?

You are the one posting that image in multiple threads. But if draft selection number is the new parameter, then he just has to be better than Brown, who was a sixth round pick.

We are going out of our way to trade physical players and acquire soft players.

I like with the Gesicki pick. I don't love it by any means but it makes sense.....and i always say stick to your board, so if he was at the top, take him.

My general rule with drafting is making your board, applying a slight multiplier to need positions and sticking to it. Let things fall into place and manipulate for value. Minkah was great value. Tunsil the other year was great value. Many others over the years have not been, especially when we panic and trade up.

I would still target a TE like Durham Smythe later. He's a great blocker and seems like a better receiver than he showed on that bad offense. We really need a young tackle and run stuffing DT as well. Harrison Phillips on the board makes sense, as does Senat from USF or Settle from VT. Even with the heart issue i can't believe Hurst is still around. 1st round talent if healthy. At OT, there's guys like Crosby, Richardson, Brown, Christian etc still out there as well. LB is getting thin.....maybe Malik Jefferson.

Wildcard will be Rudolph and Lauletta.

Lauletta.

The pick showed his combine numbers. You’re the one that talked about comparing careers with WR’s

The PSU TE has jump, 50/50, and fade catch skills ALMOST equal to Tate and Lazard in this draft. Extreme body control. The U hasn't had anyone close to this in years until Mr. Hightower.

Dolphins drafted 3 players with high upside who will be in position to contribute this year. Now idk what they’ll do this season but so far they all appear as great picks imo. Really hope we capitalize in the trenches tomorrow with a couple sleepers.

I’d take Maurice Hurst or Daron Payne with my 1st 4th.
Give me Mark Walton with the 2nd 4th.
Then OL, Kicker and a flyer for special teams.

Wildcard is I’d theres a QB gase likes.
