OT: Dolphins 1st Round

Trade the first pick to the late teens/early 20’s and take Rashaan Evans, Leigthon Vander Esch, or Will Hernandez. Go LB or TE in the second depending on what you do with the first. Best TE or OL in the third depending on what you did earlier. Best available the rest of the way.

If the phins are serious about some of the names im hearing, I’d rather take a shot on Lamar too

Vita vea? Over a dynamic athlete like Jackson? Seems idiotic
If they take Jackson at 11 then it’ll be one of the biggest reaches in history and I might even quit watching the Dolphins all together. I wouldn’t be thrilled with vita vea but take him 10 out of 10 if you’re at 11.

Truth be told, I want a LB. They’re leaders of a defense.

But if they aren’t available and it’s between Vea or a big 10 olineman or a Notre Dame tackle or Calvin Ridley......gimme the explosive athlete in Lamar instead. I’ll take my chances he can be like mike Vick over one of those other guys being a pro bowler

I mean, most mocks have him going by 15, so it wouldnt be a reach at all at 11, even if you dont care for the kid or pick.

Talent wise, hes certainly better than Tannehill, and the Fins need a QB, but not to necessarily start right away.

Youre more likely to find a decent lb later than a qb.

Ummm which mocks are you referring to? As of three weeks ago there were teams asking him to move to WR and now he’s a “first round” QB?

Edit: I found what you were talking about and that same guy had Maurice Hurst(the one with a newly discovered heart problem) going 11. Call me skeptical on that guy’s predictions. Other than that most have him in the second round or 28th/29th.

Mel Kiper as well has him 15th.

Here's what the Fins should do:

1st Minkah Fitzpatrick DB - UA
2nd Orlando Brown OT - OU
3rd Mark Andrews TE - OU
4th Shaq Griffin LB - UCF
4th Mark Walton RB - UM
6th Braxton Berrios WR - UM
UDFA Logan Woodside QB Toledo
UDFA Dee Delaney CB
UDFA KC McDermott OG

Derwin is gonna be a bigger bust than Peter Warrick.
I'm prob in the minority but I think Derwin James is going to be really good. He can play corner or safety. He was one of the best players in the country his freshmen yr and since then teams have gone away from him. I want him or Roquan Smith in rnd 1. If neither are avail the best OL on the board. The Dolphins need:
1. OL
2. DBs
3. LB
OL is and has been the Dolphins biggest mess for a long time. Outside of Pouncey (when he was healthy) everyone else has struggled. After that it's been secondary. In your drank Minkah will not be avail at 11 and Miami is not in position to give up picks to move up. Too many needs. Other than that I wouldn't hate the players you listed above. Would be Miami's best draft in a while. Mine would go something like this (based off mocks currently and who would be avail):
1. Derwin James/ DB FSU
2. Billy Price/ OG/C OSU
3. Geron Christian/ OT Louisville
4. Shaq Griffin/ LB UCF
4. R.J. Mcintosh or Andrew Brown/ DT UVA
6. Chris Herndon

We traded for Kilgore, who actually graded out better than always-hurt-Gaytor-Pouncey. We signed Sitton for LG and re-signed Ju'Wuan James at RT. The only somewhat shaky position on the line is RG, but how do you think our LBs are better off than the OL or the DBs? We get Lippett back from injury together with Howard and Tankersley. Miami's LBs are a major problem. Alonso cannot cover a tight end to save his life. Nobody knows how good Raekwon McMillan will be, especially coming off a season-ending injury and having never played a snap in the NFL. Who is the other starting LB? Chase Allen?? The Dolphins' linebackers must be the worst linebacker unit in the NFL. And there's zero depth. It's an embarrassment.

I've always considered Ju'Wuan James a liability. Maybe the light will come on for him. Totally forgot about McMillan. Hopefully he lives up to the hype. IMO, Lippett and Howard were reaches and will never be top flight CBs. Hope they prove me wrong. Alonso is good downhill but as you mentioned sucks in coverage and gets way too many dumb penalties. I like the pickups of Kilgore and Sitton.

Im not opposed at trading down at all this year if some team really wants to sneak in with our pick and we feel like we can get a top player on our board a little later. Problem is this front office has shown to be pretty bad imo understanding trade value of draft picks.

X2. IMHO the Fins need one more day 2 pick to address their needs, and dropping in the first should net them another 2nd rd pick or a high third and another pick. Only thing I'd add to your list is a DT in the 1st or 2nd. I'd prioritize that over OL. I think it owuld be nice to address RB and back-up QB in the later rounds w, but BPA rules the day there.

I think we could get RJ or Norton or Andrew Brown from UVA later and get just as much potential. Brown was the #1 DT in the country a few yrs ago but played at UVA. And we all know about RJ and Norton.

If they trade down, hopefully they'd do what the Bills did last year and recoup a 1st round pick next year rather than a 2nd round pick this year. Only way I see that happening is if one of the top QBs fell to #11 and a desperate team like Arizona wanted to jump Buffalo and take him.

All I keep hearing about James is he has great "measurables", and they fluff of his overall play.

Seems like a "looks like Tarzan plays like Jane" type of guy IMO.

I'd have no problem with that. But I'd also say that's not the MO of the Fins front office. They tend to go for the instant satisfaction type moves.

Honestly, I think this is a solid draft at a number of positions of need for the Fins, and DT is one like you are pointing out. The Brown kid is a good football player. He looked terrific the week of the Senior Bowl. And I do think our guys would be good picks in the middle round at DT. Fins need RB help, and TE help as well and the draft is deep at those positions too. LB is the one position I think they need to have wrapped up by the time they pick in the 2nd. Hopefully they buck their tendency to avoid picking LBs early.

Respectfully, I'm curious how you see corner out of him? He's pretty stiff in coverage. If you mean nickel and covering TE's then yea I can agree in the right system. But corner in the NFL having to actually cover WR's I don't see it.
