On Keionte Scott…

I still hope Damari can take some type of a step forward here. I’d like for us to hit on the local elite talent we bring in.
Im suprised he hasnt transferred they were saying staff was scared to bring in transfers cause he would hit the portal. With us bringing all these portal guys in suprised he stayed! One thing i do know is fall camp is going to be one **** of a battle in the secondary

They were "scared" last year, and we saw the results.

How does this alter Brantley’s role. I’d imagine as a 5th year guy Brantley didn’t come here to play sparringly. Is he a grad transfer if he were to leave? I really enjoy his tenacity…. As an outside corner where he never got picked on and just made plays…
Brantley will play nickel and will rotate. We just aren’t used to having depth

I’m not he’s the best DB on the roster and will play a lot of snaps. Need him to stay healthy

Think Demari lines up opposite of Lucas at CB vs ND game 1 Vs. 6’5 220 Malachai Fields & 6’1 215 lbs other Wide out.

Demari had an impressive Spring according to most Miami insiders
Maybe the Second Best CB base on Spring.

He's not beating out Frederique unless OJF has gotten really fat and happy and had a terrible offseason.

I would be shocked if he can move past O'Connor at this point as well. But hopefully competition brings out the best in all of them.

I think he was just pointing out the versatility at the position. Damari is probably a better match up v. ND’s bigger, physical WR’s than OJ who struggled against Syracuses jump ball type receivers.

I’d imagine it will be less of full time starter(s) at CB and more match up based on a game by game basis.

Based on what? He’s rarely played nickel before he got here and it was already reported that he struggled when they tried it with him

Are we just trying to force him to nickel as fans because it’s the way to get our best on the field? Curious if I missed something but he’s not a nickel to this point

My guess is it will be entirely matchup dependent who we play at CB and when, which honestly makes sense given how many high quality CBs we expect to have. The thing about our CB room though is most are longer guys some of whom are bigger - Like Lucas and Damari who you'd prefer to have on bigger and more physical WRs. O'Connor and OJ are more of the overall cover anybody type though Idk about OJs pure long speed... But there is a gap in the short+quick type of WR that I think Brantley would be the preferred match whether on the inside or outside just in terms of actual Covering. So if they have more of a shifter slot they feed the ball to a lot I can see us having Brantley there more. If they are a team that heavily runs the ball and their Slot WR blocks his *** off, I see Damari and Scott playing more Nickel that game...

Of course having said all that I expect us to just be in a lot more zone regardless. So not sure it'll be too extreme matchup based on player, and more so what the opposing offense WANTS to do to attack.

There's what 60ish snaps per game on defense or something like that? Id bet on Lucas and Poyser being on the field for 100% of them. OConnor and OJ for like 65-85% of them. Damari, Brantley, and Scott for maybe 30-50%

And of course injuries happen a lot at CB....

Yeah I’m with you (uh oh)

I love the DB group just was wondering if I missed something specific. Wasn’t trying to be contrarian to what the poster said

I kind of ( and am not Mario ) feel like they will try and get the best DBs on the field after last years disaster. But to your point they won’t put someone in a position to crap the bed. And as said above I think it depends where receivers line up also. Or who they want matching up with.

That exactly what I was Pointing out. Go look at The Syracuse Game . OJ Vs Their big Receievers. 6’5 220 Malachai fields & 6’1 215 lbs # 1 ND receiever with Ball skills
Is not ideal Match up for OJ Federique at 6’0 180lbs. Rather Have 6’2 205 Demari Brown who Played against Fields VS Virginia.
