That ND game is setting up to be a low scoring game. Whoever can run the ball especially late third going into the fourth has the edge.So no excuses in run defense now right?

No excuses with punt returns either.love the pickup. No excuses in the secondary there is depth there as well.
Karnley was outside, Scott is being brought in to play nickel and potentially safety, along with special teams.Essentially replacing Karnley with this guy and hoping he returns to form?
I’ll take it I guess
Miami feels they landed a player with the talent to be a Top 100 pick. Whether he gets there remains to be seen. But this is a guy Zac Etheridge wanted to coach again.
In 2023, Scott was the best punt returner in the SEC and a nickel projected to go pro. Auburn worked aggressively to bring him back. In 2024, with Etheridge moving to Houston, Scott played outside corner and struggled. By the end of the season, he was on the bench. He lost all confidence, and he even had trouble fielding punts. He entered the Portal to reunite with Etheridge at Houston and has now followed him to Coral Gables.
The first thing you notice with Scott is that he looks the part. He’s 6’, 190+ and runs well (10.9 100M in high school). In 2023, he was good in man, excelled as a blitzer and stepped up in big games (see Ole Miss ). He also finished 8th nationally in punt returns. This is the version of Scott that the staff hopes to unlock:
The nickel is a critical position in Hetherman’s defense. At different times, he’s expected to play man, zone, blitz, defend screens, and fit the B-gap (between the guard and tackle) in the run game. In the spring, Charles Brantley, Chris Ewald, and Isaiah Taylor played that role. None of those guys have Scott’s size and speed, nor do they have his experience in the position.
There is no guarantee we will get the ‘23 version of Scott. Like a lot of guys in this Portal class, he has something to prove. But if he can solidify that spot, he will complete a total physical upgrade of the secondary.
It’s possible. Outside corners usually like to stay out there, but there are only so many spots. Brown and Lucas both have some safety traits, as does Scott.D- Money Outstanding work !!
You brought a Lot of insight & detail about Scott story.Looks like Miami & Him are a good partnership towards his NFL Goals.
QuestionD$ - What do you do if Demari Lucas, Are your outside CBs & Scott at Nickel , with OJ Federique , O’Conner & Brantly? Yes it’s wonderful Depth but
Is there a Possibility of Position Versatility , with Moving a Xavier Lucas At Free Safety at times( Much like Bain, Mesidor & Blount ) On Passing Downs?
Oj Federique,O’Conner & Brantly Are better Players at what they do than Thomas is at Safety. Atleast coverage wise
Thank You, Brilliant work both you & Pete keep getting better & Sharper with your observations. It’s possible. Outside corners usually like to stay out there, but there are only so many spots. Brown and Lucas both have some safety traits, as does Scott.
At least in the first portal window you can evaluate the goods before you start fall camp, w/ these pick ups it seems like a crap shoot.Essentially replacing Karnley with this guy and hoping he returns to form?
I’ll take it I guess
If at bare minimum he has the type of season Jaden Davis has for us at nickel the year before last were in business
That’s up to him! It’s good we have options for competitionDamari Brown not playing nickel?
I'm guessing this would be top 3-5 in the ACC.Alright,
Lucas/Brown
Frederique/O’Conner
Brantley/Scott
Poyser/Williams
Thomas/Day
Is a great revamp by this staff
Top 2 with Clemson. SMU is up there alsoI'm guessing this would be top 3-5 in the ACC.
We talking about punt returns?"...And not that we actually forced anyone to punt..."
