On Emmanuel Karnley...

Do we know how the payments work? Think there must be an installment schedule and if so he probably gets a pro rated amount.
Its all in the form of installments. As long as he met the contractual requirements during the time he was enrolled at UM, he was receiving NIL money. But that does not continue now.

Yes, they knew going in that the loser(s) of the battle would leave. They wanted to bring in enough competition that we could solve the problem at CB. There was also some uncertainty with Lucas.

Whoever disagrees with this approach is one of those dumbasses that thinks championship teams never have attrition or missed evals. The way to win is to stack chips, create intense competition at every spot, and let the losers leave. The only spots we've pulled this off are DE, OL and finally (after years of failure) CB. We need to do this at every position.

I feel like some of yall have zero ability to see anything that isn’t black and white. If someone is brought in it’s because he must have been viewed as an elite recruit lol. He was CB5 portal add. Again don’t see the problem with his add or his leaving. What if he outperformed Damari? Would have been a good add then… and again even though he was before Lucas he was never more than just the CB4 add….

If he had outperformed Damari, the same posters would have said Mario can't recruit HS because all his blue chippers wash out. Mopes are going to mope.

Still waiting for that Damari / Cormani loafer haul to pay dividends

You can hang Cormani on Mario. But you cannot possibly fault Mario for recruiting Damari. Damari was injured first game of last season. He looked just fine vs UF. We'll see if he's recovered and improved are not.

Regardless, the increased competition makes everyone better, and if Damari gets beaten out, in my book that's a good outcome as long as the player who beats him is better.

True but I imagine Damari was making more than Karley so it would have been better for US. Or it would have pushed Damari to move to safety, which again would be better for us. Then if we get a starting 1 yr safety, maybe Damari starts at safety the following year….

It was the equivalent of nfl teams just understanding the more swings you have at draft picks (including doubling up at same position), the more likely you are to actually fill your need.

100%. And even expanding on that a little bit, this is like an NFL team with 10 picks and one room in major disarray taking 3 guys at the same position, one being a 7th rounder, and cutting that guy in camp. Literally no one cares.

And maybe that guy catches on with another team and is a decent player. But he doesn't have a spot here. Same with this kid. Maybe he likes it down here and transfers to FIU and is good. I'm not going to say we have some awesome secondary until I see it on the field, but there's a non-zero chance that this kid is actually average, but the kids ahead of him are better.

Either way, who cares? He's the last man out. I wish him well wherever he winds up.

No problem recruiting Damari. It is making personnel decisions based on him, like he is an All American.

I was agreeing with your post. My a-priori argument is the competition is good and whining about a loser leaving is stupid. Which I know you agree with. As for these additional comments, we'll never know.

I think they’d rather just get someone who has played safety. That process is ongoing.
This is why u hammer the portal in 1st round after post season to be able to do evals in person on your own turf in spring practice . I feel like the portal setup is beneficial if used to the maximum of its boundaries. Just need a cap on nil money per position.
