On CharMar "Marty" Brown...

There’s a difference in using the portal for depth pieces or a few free agents and using the portal to get 11 new starters for a so called “elite high school recruiter”
Recruited players are most likely to get pressured by others to test the portal waters during the 1-2 years .

Recruiting is fading away teams pressure for success is to great especially to fill the stands and concessions to pay for success of millions of dollars for children to play.

As we all saw signing day came and went no interest the portal is what greed made .

Mario had done very well in portal over the years.

The portal and money rules, portal instant success let other teams raise these children then get them in portal ready to play.

It is what the smart people have made

Its always a negative slant with you.

Who cares? Stack talent regardless.

I got Miami starting 10-11 portal players this season. Oregon looks like its going to start 10 portal players this season. UGA around 5. Ohio State may start 7-8 portal players.

These are all programs that have been recruiting at an elite level for years and years. Miami started getting in that ballpark 3 years ago. Mario isnt allowed to miss on any recruits though, I guess.

Mario doesn’t recruit enough Elite talent/difference makers is the problem with him out of high school

He recruits way too many jags

Miami is not even close to recruiting at an elite level

And no, Ohio State is projected to only use 3 starters from the transfer portal. Quit trying to inflate numbers, you’re full of **** on your numbers

This is all I care about and it’s not even close to being good enough roster

Top 7 NIL budget, but nowhere close to having a Top7 roster

You and your other kool aid drinking dip****s can’t handle the truth

We’ve sucked for 20 years. I like the fact that we are on these lists now and it’s considered a disappointment. Hopefully we actually finish in that mix.

my biggest worry is our lack of hit rate on the elite guys were recruiting under Mario. moss, citizen, Rudolph, pong, Wayne, Kelly, Patterson, Samson, Riley Williams now gone, and nearly Carr.

thats a lot of resources invested and not a lot of return (not to mention the transfers we added that left before the season even started (the az db, Riley).

You guys get a little ridiculous tbh

Martinez was far and away our best back last year and both Fletcher and Lyle were here

The room in 2023 was pretty good. Parrish was a criminally underrated back here who was better in 2023 than Fletcher

I’m not “down” on Fletcher and Lyle though it’s always gotta be these extremes on this board
I get what you're saying , but gotta quibble a bit here. In '23 we were a pretty good running team, but we also gave 160+ carries to Chaney and Allen. If your RB room is pretty good those guys don't get that many carries. They didn't in '24 when they were both in much better RB rooms.

Room this year looks much better than in '23. Brown was big pickup because he's really good at running inside, and doesn't have fumbling issues. Fletcher adept at running inside (without the contact balance to break long inside runs that Martinez had), but has some fumbling issues. Good hedge if Fletcher gets the fumbling yips, and hopefully Brown still has contact balance at a higher competition level to break some long inside runs.

Obviously, we don't have guy with historic production like last year with Martinez, but Fletcher & Lyle have potential to be 1000 yard backs. I'm interested to see how we use Lyle this year. He has a ton of talent but he didn't show much running between the guards, which we love to do and do better than anyone else. He was also a true freshman. Hope he gets better at it, but hope more that we put him in a position to maximize his talents (outside the guards, or heaven's Betsy even outside the tackles)

Appreciate the post! I try to not to use revisionist history when I comment I try and remember what we were talking about going into the 2023 season

It’s easy now to look back and say well Chaney wasn’t that good and Parrish was who he was (not saying you’re doing that) but headed into the season people were feeling really good about that room

I think Martinez gave us a little glimpse at what that next tier of back should look like down the stretch

So when I say resembling 2023 just meant headed into the season but also the caveat being that was before this kid committed, I really like the pickup

Now fast forwarding I think this room certainly has potential to be a lot better than 2023 so hopefully that makes sense

Ha trust me I can handle it. Its just negative slant after negative slant with you. Did you think we hired Nick Saban? Did you forget we were a dormant program for nearly 20 years? We just started treating our program like a top 15-20 type program the last 3 years?

Do you know why we have top 10 NIL collective? Rome wasnt built in a day. Progress has been made, needs to keep going forward.

Ohio State

2 OL

1 TE

1 QB

3 DBs

A DE in mix to start

Yup that's where I'm at to. We have 3 top 10ish HS RBs (Fletch, Lyle, Pringle) on the rooster, which is a level of talent we haven't had in a while here in the RB room. All else fails we have Lofton who I hear is like Superman meets Rambo meets Bo Jackson at RB.

@DMoney you hear anything about how Brockermeyer looked in Spring blocking for our super simple and highly effective inside run game? That was worry I had when he committed: He's a clear upgrade in pass pro and screen game, but was unsure he's built to do what we like to do running inside.

1st time starters for Ohio St: Qb, RB, LG, MLB, 2 Edges, 2 DTs, CB

1st time starters for Miami: 2 WRs, TE, LG, 1 DT

Yet all anyone does is complain about how we are going with guys that haven’t proven themselves yet, and act as if the top programs don’t always turn to the next man up who hasn’t proven themselves yet.

Odds to win the National Title

Ohio State +600

Miami +3300
