Well, I think its a mix of two things. 1: The staff is/was looking shaky. That makes recruiting defensive players kind of difficult when you are pretty sure there will be some changes in at the very least the Defensive staff. So I am sure that has played a role in the slowing of the recruits. I also think with all the negative media attention, and the flying of banners, etc that as well makes it more difficult to recruit. I few can get a few more wins late in the season I think you will see this staff get back out there a bit more. 2. This staff has done it every year. They recruit really really hard in the spring and summer, make connections, get in kids ears, slow down during the season, and then go full court press during bowl prep and Jan. Just look at the last few classes, we had a bunch locked up prior to the season, some bolt when the negative **** hits the fan when we have some losses, then they go real hard in the last 5-7 weeks prior to signing day. They have had some success with those last pushes but have also missed on some really important guys there too.
What makes the sofla area so difficult to recruit is so many guys in that are want to wait until NSD to decide. In less rural areas kids sign right up quick. It seems to be part of the culture down there. And to say Butch this and Butch that is just not accurate. It has been proven time and time again that Butch does his work in finding athletes and enveloping them like no other. That is how he did it, Coker was the guy pulling all the 5* studs that didn't want to work hard and that is why we are where we are today. We have all said it a thousand times, its a mix of elite talent and some great athletes that are willing to work their way into great players.
In the end, it will only be a matter of time before this staff gets the future figured out and goes from there. If AG hires a new DC that will be a huge recruiting thing for him with the Defensive recruits.. " come here, play in this new system" etc. It takes begin a used car salesman to recruit, I know we like to gash AG for that but in this game thats what it takes...

For those few optimist out there please realize what's being said! That AL should be doing a helluva better recruiting job in at least his own back yard! This we gotta a chance with this guy or that don't mean Snitz! Going out on a date don't mean you gonna get laid! We need closers not cold callers. All our classes should be top 10 with high probabilities down the home stretch. Al sucks at "ALL" phases necessary to bring Miami back. Butch should come and kick Al's *** out of his office.
Man..I swear alot of you act like this is your first time at the Rodeo. Is this thread serious? Man, I am almost dreading the bye week for the FSU game. For that two week period this board is going to be unbearable.
First off, Al Golden and company have ALOT more things to worry about then recruiting right now. We dont even know who will still be on the staff next year. **** for all we know, Dno/Paul Williams and Jethro could all be gone after the season. These guys are literally coaching for there livelihoods these next 4 games.
Second off, I guarantee you other teams havent contacted recruits either. You think Jimbo is on the dial hitting up Calvin Ridley? Man that guy is trying to win another title. And if he does, recruits will be calling him! My point is that coaches are focused on ending the season on a good note. The time to visit and talk to recruits will surely come.
Is this class as good as it was this time last year? No. But we are waiting on ALOT of recruits and elite ones at that. Most of these kids want to wait and see what we do record wise the rest of the season. Honestly, I dont blame them. Who the **** would want to join this circus if we end the season 6-6...Als job in the limbo, Dno gets fired, etc..
I agree with anyone who says that slow playing guys like Fenton and Huggins is stupid. Roderick Archer too. Al must know something we dont. Maybe someone told him that the Davis boys (Carlton and Davante) and Tim Irvin are ours to lose as long as we stay on them and end the season with a pulse. Who knows.
But lets not panic this early. We have a season to salvage.

"The Don" is not as good of a recruiter as made out to be. Well his staff at least mainly on the defensive side and the results show in the recruiting rankings and product on field. Coley, Carrrol, Scott and even Kehoe have proven to haul in solid offensive talent. Brown did when he was on offensive side. We aren't going to get them all and yes we did miss on elite talent but the offensive to defensive recruiting on this staff is miles apart.

what would you guys want the class to look like right now? list the names of the kids you think ought to be currently committed.

All the guys I'd want committed have made it very clear that they will be making their decisions after their high school seasons.
Tim Irvin
Carlton Davis
Devante Davis
Antonio Calloway
Marcus Lewis
Devonaire Clarington
All of those guys will be making decisions during All-Star Games or on signing day. There's an eternity to go in their respective recruitments.

Do you not understand how recruiting works? Coaches don't stop talking to recruits during the season. How the **** do you think official visits get set up? I guarantee you Jimbo and Saban recruit during the season along with every other coach worth a ****. You think recruits just commit during the season without being recruited at all times? You have to build relationships and maintain them throughout the season. Not just before and after.

Jaquan Johnson at one point was one of those kids who said he was waiting until after the season. Funny how he changed his mind and jumped on Miami but the others didn't.
And didn't Carlton Davis commit to OSU?
If someone wants to see a real disaster 2015 class from a FAILED coaching staff, check out the University of Florida.
Their class is currently ranked in the late 60s and guys that would have been Gator locks in previous years, like Dexter Williams, are COMMITTING elsewhere or not even considering UF! We have a top 15 class with the opportunity at some big time UNCOMMITTED guys.

Carlton Davis and Jaquan Johnson are both going to take all of their visits. Not even really concerned with either of their commitment status' at this point.
Stop acting like you don't know how recruiting goes.

This staff is getting less out of more talent. Our whole defense is mostly four and five star recruits and we can't stop the run. So it becomes even more vital that we stack classes, especially on defense.
Last year was a good one. Can't back it up with a bad one. Can't do it.

You know **** well that those ideologies aren't mutually exclusive.
They did the work in the winter and summer to the tune of 19 commitments before the season started. That's a very good start and now they have to close on guys down the stretch. Our current verbals are up in the air just like everyone else's but let's not act like we don't have a solid foundation.
You're arguing for the sake of arguing at this point.

What reality do you guys live in? Our whole defense is 4 and 5 star recruits? Really?
