Notre Dame's QB1 in the Opener

This is gonna be an ugly game. Mario and Freeman are gonna go full gorilla ball, ultra conservative and try to limit mistakes.
This is truly one those game where one mistake will cost you the game.

It's only happened with Williams in 2023. Dawson has never called a "bro" game outside of those games. Not even when Van Dyke was lighting up the face masks of the other team.

I don’t see a scenario where you keep our offense one dimensional with the weapons we have. You don’t necessarily have to go full vertical. But you can totally make that run defense honest and use it to your advantage.
We have a dude with experience and won’t be bothered by the atmosphere. You don’t rein that in at all imo.
You give him the confidence and use everything at your disposal to win.

I agree but this is the best defense he's ever faced and I'm not sure it's even close. I'm never said it's gonna look like '23 NC St but it's not gonna look like '23 A&M.
I see it being a very Monken-esque game plan using the run to set up lots of manufactured touches and schemed open throws under 10 yards with the occasional deep shot. They're a blitz heavy team and Carson doesn't play well under pressure or off platform.
I just don't think Dawson is gonna put him in those situations.

I've said this elsewhere, but on paper, if you are objective and take off the fan glasses, this is going to be a tough game. They had tons of post season practice to gel their 2nd and 3rd string. They return a lot of guys. We lost our entire offensive capacity output. Our QB1 missed an entire spring. Defense is a total rebuild job. We have way more question marks than they do.

Only clear undisputed advantage we have is The Rock. If you mother ****ers aren't there 3 hours before, and hurling beer bottles at those team busses the moment they start pulling into throwing range, I will find you and execute you in the blue lot.
Yo I've normally got a squad but going solo only game I’ll make it to this year. I’ll have a few empty crown royal bottles ready to be tossed at Notre lames busses, just need some fellow Canes to tailgate with. Holler at me if you cookin up some bbq I got the whiskey! Ticket is in section 101

I don't think their D will be as good as last season. I don't believe their new DT's get pressure inside. Their is no standout DL returning for them. Their hoping a Bryce Young breaks out. I don't see pressure on Beck. Their run D could be better. Their LB room would be their strength to me. Daniels is going to have to make contested catches against CB L. Moore. He's a problem. The other CB played well at times last season, but had periods of not impressive play in several games last season. The 1 returning S played pretty good, but they lost S Watts and 1 starting CB. They brought in a Nickel transfer from Bama, Smith. I think Beck will have time and Moore is the 1 secondary guy I am worried about. We have the crowd, humidity and a 6th year QB. Contain their rush to under a 150 yards and I like the Canes in this game. This will be the best OL, RB, WR and DB we face this season and I think we still win. Go Canes!

ND should have one of the better top 2 WR pairings in the country, probably the best RB in the country, and likely a top 5 OLine. And like us they basically always have a pretty high quality TE. The only question offensively is QB. Which of course is a big question. I’d bet by the end of the year they are one of the better offenses in the country.

Defensively I’d say their back 7 LB/DB will probably be the best we play all season. Their group vs our offensive pass weapons, they certainly get the matchup win pregame due to our guys not being proven yet.

I agree with you, probably the best at all those positions we play all season. Until Clemson or something… and I do think we win

I wonder if ND is throwing this smoke out there about there being a battle so that we're not prepared for a particular QB?
That would require them to go to the confessional. “ Bless me Father,.. I touched myself in an impure manner 26 times. Also Father I lied about the QB battle at ND, trying to blow smoke up UM’s As*”

So, ND has a WR duo on par with Bama, Auburn, LSU, Texas, and Ole Miss? I call BS on that. I’m not sold on Love. And, when ND played an offense with a decent QB and high level skill players, USC dog walked their defense.

have not heard anything about notre dame dline are they any good
Phil Steele rankings comparison from the ND forum:
Just picked up my copy of Phil Steele yesterday, and he has the units ranked nationally as follows:
D-Line:
ND - 4 - notes they're loaded with depth and potential and should have a heavy rotation of quality guys especially at edge
Miami - 11 - Notes that Rueben Bain is a stud but less depth
LB:
ND - 3 - predicts Bowen/Sneed to start in heavy rotation with Ausberry and KVA, who he says would start for most schools
Miami - 26 - seems like they have some upperclassmen with late round draft grades, but no studs
Other unit rankings you didn't ask about
QB: ND 64, Miami 9
RB: ND 2, Miami 16
Receivers: ND 14, Miami 23
O-line: ND 3, Miami 6
DBs: ND 1, Miami 24
ST: ND 11, Miami 67

Seems like national media basically have Notre Dame as the best roster of starters in the country outside of their QB being an unknown.

1A or 1B best RB room with PSU, best DB group, and they are saying the ND OL, DL, LB are all elite and the WRs good.

I didn't know this but Minchey had a better grade coming out of high school and Carr's ranking plummeted his senior year. The one ND pod I listened to said it was because of his inability to process.

That would be my expectation. Carr's stats in high school were roughly the same all three years he was a starter except in one very specific number. His interception rate went up each year.

But Minchey isn't even close to dual threat. He may be the better runner. But in HS at least, Carr had more rushing yards.

Carr High School Stats From Sports Illustrated:
2023 Stats: 199 com., 292 att., 68.2%, 2,754 pass yards, 24 TD, 9 INT / 91 rush yards, 9 TD
2022 Stats: 222 com., 326 att., 68.1%, 2,685 pass yards, 26 TD, 5 INT / 221 rush yards, 7 TD
2021 Stats: 156 com., 243 att., 64.2%, 2,696 pass yards, 28 TD, 4 INT

Minchey High School Stats from Maxpreps
2022 Stats: 47 com., 768 yards, 73.4%, 11 TD, 1 INT (in 4 games) / 17 for 57 yards, 0 TD
2021 Stats: 215 com., 3,280 yards, 61.3%, 32 TD, 9 INT / 52 for 137 rush yards, 3 TD
2020: Stats: 85 com., 1,164 yards, 63.4%, 10 TD, 1 INT (in seven games) / 35 for 106 rush yards, 0 TD

They are doing everything for that scramble qb to win but he’s a terrible passer. So the statue may start.

Qbs get a lot of free first downs and yards with scrambling cheese so the pocket guy has to actually be legit to be worth playing over the scrambler.

These ND coaches probably want to do like Jim Harbaugh in that game where he didn't pass for a whole half but I don't think Miami's front 7 is soft enough for them to get far doing that.

ND on the road last year - they only had 3 road games? lol
- @TAMU - won
- @Purdue - won
- @USC - won

They handled week 1 on the road in a tough tough environment well 23-13 win.

The total on this game has continued to plummet.

Opened as high as 54, it’s now down to 49.5 at some shops.

ND also opened at -3.5 and it moved to -2.5 about 2 weeks ago, I’ve seen some juice coming that indicate a move to -2.

This ND QB stuff might be real. Both these kids might stink. A 4.5 drop on the total is significant.
