Notre Dame's QB1 in the Opener

Thanks for the info. Their DTs may be 300 but they don’t play like war daddy types. Not all 300 pounders are built alike. Have watched their highlights and they are okay. I think they are vulnerable up the middle.

Honestly, I think we match up great against ND. We have the advantage in virtually every unit. Even in spots where everyone swears they have the advantage (CB/RB), I’d argue those position rooms on our side are better or just as good.

We don’t have the advantage in every unit 😂

I love our DL, but we don’t have the advantage against their OL

Their DBs against our receivers might be the biggest mismatch on the field.

Their backs against our linebackers isn’t even close.

But we can absolutely beat them. I love our OL against anyone, even them. I love Beck in a big game, at home. I love our corners against their WRs, and I love that the QB they’re throwing out is going to be completely inexperienced and playing in a rabid cesspool of debauchery. We can win, but a very large percentage of that roster just played for a National championship, and they’ve been recruiting and using the portal at an elite level. It’s one of the best rosters in CFB and will be a challenge for us.

This isn’t 2017. It’s college football so who knows, maybe we win 41-8 again, but this roster is much, much better than that **** Brian Kelly was rolling out there.

I was comparing unit to unit rather than unit to opposing unit if that makes sense. Your points are all valid.

Still no starting QB. I can't see that being a positive thing. Get the +2.5 while you can because that's gonna move big

I look at it this way you bring Carson beck in to win games like this. Their online isn’t gonna stop our D line on every play. Both quarterbacks combined for three passes in games. Go win it!

ND's DE's are Bryce Young JR and the Somoa guy(I wouldn't even tempt to spell). They are hoping they develop and become strong players this season. Young has had 1.5 sacks in 16 games. I believe the somoa kid has had 2, unless I am getting bad info. Not 1 DL is a standout so far. I don't see a pass rush threat. I am not worried about Louisville transfer DT Dawson and I question if the USC transfer DT plays. He has to be a depth piece. S transfer from VT Stroman might be good. He had 55 tackles in 23 and was looking like a NFL talent, but had a season ending injury in game 1 last season. The Nickel transfer from Bama played in 12 games last season and was very inconsistent. They had 1 returning starting CB and 1 returning starting S. We shall see, but I am not seeing the same D here at all. I like their LB's(even the TR FR phenom), CB L. Moore and maybe S Stroman.

Yeah but the difference is they will be playing in a much tougher environment with a QB that's never played or has played 1 game.
Much tougher is debatable, Kyle field seats over 100,000 and is loud. Point still stands about the QB.

Agree with all that, but the bolded is hindsight. The contemporary thinking was that Notre Dame, even with a weak QB, would run roughshod over Miami because they had a good OL and an RB getting Heisman talk.

When they couldn't run the ball successfully, they were toast. They had multiple pass catchers who have played in the league (Claypool, Smythe, St Brown).

Miami is built (on paper) to beat a team like this.

try 3 more sack in 4 more games ND played 16 games last year

Cam Ward did have 50 more pass attempts and Leonard is more mobile than Ward

But overall, yes, ND did a good job of protecting the passer

Traore Is their one edge player that is scary but he's coming off an ACL. Kid is the gods but it's only been 11 months. The rest of their edge players don't scare me either. Young is being talked about as the second coming and started to flash in the playoffs. But he's a power guy and not a bender. Their interior DL is mid. Heinrich is their best DT and he's 280
Lbs are very legit and deeeep.
Their gonna bring a lot of pressure if I had to guess

Agreed, and also, IIRC, that game opened with ND -3 and was bet down and I think at kickoff the line was ND -1.5.

This year’s game opened at ND -3.5 and has already moved through the key number and is at -2.5 now. I expect it will be 2 or 1.5 by kickoff. Hmmmmm

100000%

was at Notre Dame's home playoff game.... been to countless big Canes games at the Rock (even pre-enclosed roofing) and there truly is not much a comparison in terms of intensity and hostility
hostility? i went to the 2016 game at ND and every time ND scored the fans around me encouraged me not to get down because UM was playing well and it just was a matter of time before UM scored again. we repaid that gentility by rocking their buses and smashing the windows with rocks as they approached the stadium.

Agree on DT. The two teams that took advantage of that beat them.

Not sure I agree on the RB and CB comments. They're probably two rooms I would change for Miami's if I'm being impartial and hones

What do you think the strategy will be? Do think we will stack the box against the run and allow a potential strength in our DB's to live on islands?

The humidity won’t be a huge issue. It’s hot in Indiana in the summer, too.
It’s not even close my man.

Besides the 10 degree difference, the humidity factor makes it feel like 103 in sofla. You must not live down here. When the people that have lived here all their lives are saying it’s fckng hot, believe them.

As I said, ND will peak later in the year. Now is the time to get them because when playoffs come around and they're in there and playing well, it will look fantastic on Miami's resume if their able to win

try 3 more sack in 4 more games ND played 16 games last year
And despite playing 4 more games, ND had 44 less passing attempts on the season, than UM.
You can’t get sacked if you’re not passing.

I predict UM gets 3+ sacks in this game.

I would expect 4 or 5. New QB, hostile environment where cadence is important (and often difficult for experienced QBs), some new starters on the online even if they're really good, etc.

The first quarter will be very important and very telling of how the game will probably go

Sincerely I don’t know if I’ve ever seen so many hypotheticals being thrown out for a team to warrant how good they’re going to be. It’s like we need an algebra lesson on why their units are going to be good.

Obviously all that matters is the canes winning the game but I just don’t feel this Irish team is going to be all that good this season the more I learn as we get closer to game
