That Gattis Job to figure it out, not mine, and He is not doing a good job at that. He better go talk to Kyle Shannahan to get creative in the run game. I just know slanging it 50 times is not going to cut it. We barely won seven games doing that last year.
So no answers. I also didn’t say we need to throw it 50 times. I said we aren’t a run first team and gattis thinks we are. We don’t have the ol to do so. It’s better to shift your approach based on the roster. I guess it’s stupid to do so. We lost to mtsu by a million doing it their way. We lost to a bad unc team bc we couldn’t shift our red zone approach. We lost to atm bc we don’t dare to shift the rz approach.

Say it with me muppets...

BAMA IS A POWER RUN TEAM THAT CAN ALSO THROW THE BALL.
People that belive this hasn’t been watching Bama play ball. Saban himself said he had to evolve.

His starters throw the ball around the yard , get up and then they’ll run it. Their qb’s / wr’s put up big numbers and win Heismans and getting drafted high. This isn’t Bama three yards and a cloud of dust anymore.

You can b*** and moan about Gattis all you want but the dude just threw the ball 57 times, after a game he threw it 51 times, after a game he threw it 41 times. Discussing quotes where he talks about wanting to run the ball and getting mad is moronic. It's very obvious what that quote is implying. And he's right.
We fell down big on each game. We don’t run the ball well out of the formations they’re trying to run out of. We aren’t a good run blocking team. We weren’t one last year. You shift how you do things to tailor to talent not beat the same drum. We also threw the ball out of diff formations than we have been and it showed that doing it another way can have success

He runs the ball late and situationally. Just because you have a really good Ol and more talent doesn’t mean you should make your offense simple., plodding and predictable. Doing things like that was fine at one time but all these spread / uptempo teams were giving him ****. So he adjusted. He started evolving on offense and adding more situational / smaller guys for spread teams. That Lsu team was so good because they had the talent and the scheme.

57 Pass attempts
18 rush attempts
@hoops156 is this that groundbreaking football analysis you are willing to share with me? I'll pass you guys are incompetent.
Take what the give you.

If that’s 100 passes, so be it. If it’s 100 rushes, so be it.

He didn’t pass enough in the redzone. Smash mouth football into 0 yards over and over again in the RZ since game #1.

Lets hoops tell it. That is a winning formula. Go look at Alabama percentage the last five years. People swear they are slanging the ball all over the place. Alabama, 3 out of 5 years, they average more rush attempts than passing per game.
You can’t look at their final numbers without watching the game. They run it 30 times every second half bc they’re up 20. They throw it all over the place almost every single game. They might actually run it way more next weekend against Tenn to keep them off the field, but that’s an outlier.

He of course has evolved. He added components of a tremendous passing attack no doubt.

Make no mistake, when he needs 3 yds, he's getting 3yds on the ground. His base philosophy hasn't changed. I think this is where he and Smart have done a great job: get people to recruit lighter to defend the "spread" and we'll make your weaklings pay when we pound it at you if we feel like it.

Just my 2 cents...

and Nick's 2 cents too..

“...I feel like we take what the defense gives. So we don’t just call running plays. A lot of the plays that ended up being passes were called runs, all right. So I’m more concerned about how we move the ball. Because we’re going to take what the defense gives..."

Bingo.

If they want to take away the run and go 8 man box then pass. If they want to go 6-7 in the box then run it. Thats simple. The numbers alone dictate a lot in play calling these days. Mario would rather run into a loaded box to prove we’re making a point. We’re the tougher caveman. Majority of DC’s would love to face that. Fish in a barrel.

To be fair I get what you saying. We don't have the tools, and we should pivot to something else. So there are two mindset to problem.

Either lower standards, to fit people needs. Or you maintain your standards until people rise to them. Most successful are latter, they may tweak certain things but the core of their standards are the foundation.

There was story about Jerry Jones, when he was building the current cowboys stadium. They were adding the retractable roof. He wanted to be able close and open it in 30 minutes or less. The engineers told him it wasn't possible, they could go from go from 2H down to 1h40m. Jerry Jones fired those engineers, and hired a new ones. He told them same thing, 30 minutes. They got it open and close in 30 minutes.

He could have easily lowered his standards to 2H. Not Saying Mario is going be Successful. I prefer raising the bar than lower it to appease the lowest denominator.

What exactly does that mean? Bama hasn't played in 21 personnel since John Parker Wilson was lacing em' up lol.

Yes they run the ball, they RPO people to death with both zone and gap schemes.

The point he was making is we weren't a balanced offense. I don't think you can watch that game and disagree. If you want to turn it into he wants to pass less because he likes running more, this probably isn't the quote for that.

This comment by Gattis is the most obvious and clearly correct thing I’ve seen him say since he’s been here

And yet people are mystified by it

It really is not complicated

If we had won the game and he said the same thing people would have understood it
If you hate Gattis by now nothing he says will change that. If he says "1" their will be 5 threads that pop up saying he should have said "2". 🤣 Only thing he said that matters is the redzone offense is ***. I can get behind that message.

I think this is more on Mario than on Gattis, at least in the one example of the RZ vs. UNC. Mario told Joe Rose, and I am paraphrasing, he knew we didn't have the personal, but he wanted to establish identity in the RZ. We can't be that stubborn. If the passing game is what kept us in the game, then let it decide the game.

And the point @PIPO Is making is that any preconceived notion of balance or amount of times you run or pass is dumb.

You do what works. Period. Pipo is 100% right.

I dont want to hear Gattis say we didn't run enough. Only thing I care about hearing him say is that we didn't SCORE enough.
