Next HC

Campbell has beaten three Top 6 teams in his last 20 games as HC. He’s beaten Lincoln Riley, Gary Patterson, Dana Holgorsen, and Mike Gundy. Impressive, to me, at that school. He did not win the MAC, true, but he did tie for the MAC West lead his last two seasons but tie-breakers kept Toledo out of the MAC championship.

He may need more experience but the talent he can attract to Ames, Iowa only gets him so far. He will always be behind Oklahoma and Texas, and probably behind TCU, Oklahoma State, and maybe West Virginia.
Well said and what I think is interesting is Iowa St seems to routinely give good teams difficult games even if they ultimately lose and it’s been multiple years

It’s always funny to go back and see who people wanted and swore would be great coaches. Not sure if Campbell is the guy but I would like to see him get a look.

Kiffin He's the kind of *** hole we need. He can be what Jimmy J was in this era. I'll welcome the baggage guy can coach and is Saban Approved. If we want to go out of the box go with a guy like Briles

We can 100%, without a doubt outbid Houston to make Briles our OC. Problem is Richt is too stubborn to make that call.

When Briles leaves Houston there is no way we are gonna out bid the SEC for him.

I just don't see how it would be possible.

I wouldn’t mind Babers, at least they have the balls to be competitive vs Clemson. Done a good job with Syracuse considering their recruiting classes vs the rest of the ACC.

Would not be surprised if Auburn made a change. They’re paying Gus M $6M/yr, I think, and unhappy with his inconsistency.

Miami would let Briles go to Auburn for $5M, and try to get Gus on the cheap.

Hypothetically....

Malzahn has the fifth highest buyout number in the country. He ain't going nowhere.

And I still don't think Briles has proven enough to get an HC gig. We can for sure get him as an OC. We can pay our coordinators $1M if that's what it takes. For the record, I don't think it would take that much to lure Briles from Houston.

HC. Gene Chizik
OC. David Yost
OL. Conor Riley
RB-ST. Stu Holt
WR. Lamar Thomas
TE. Hartley or whoever
Defense stayes

He’s making $400K
Yost is under $200K

Matt Campbell - Iowa St. Look at his record against ranked teams. Does more with less, not less with more (which is what we have).

Yeah, let's go hire a journeyman Offensive Coordinator without head coaching experience from Houston.

Do you guys read what you type before you Post Reply?

Yeah, people are overreacting right now. Yes we need a great offensive mind as an OC, but that's not a qualification for being HC. It's a plus, but I need a guy who can hire well, recruit, and run the show. Remember when people thought randy would be good because he'd coached some good defenses? Putting aside how good his defenses actually were, everyone missed the part where he was abrasive to HS coaches, and was a crap motivator. What's the point in a great O/D mind if the team is all half-***, or you can't get top kids to sign?

When he leaves Houston for any football coaching position we aren't going to be able to outbid the powers that b e for his services.

HC, OC, irrelevant. We won't pay him what his market value will be.

In addition, he's a good coach who knows football....not really what we value out of our hires. Not a great fit, might lead to more victories.
