older guy with two years of eligibility ... wish rivers would have ran away with it, but we all know age matters on the line, is this kid strong enough to play guard, can't get over the nightmares of scaife getting manhandled at the p.o.a.

I hear you..and there's been improvement on the o-line (though it would be difficult not to improve), and a pulse on the trail too. BUT I do question, along with others, his management of Campbell.
Ultimately, hard to get a read on this one RIGHT NOW. If the kid is a more than solid starter losing the counter will be worthwhile. Or if there's an unknown transfer or two and Clarke has to shirt. Otherwise it's hard to see an immediate benefit versus losing the counter UNLESS something extraordinary happens like the kid becoming an All-ACC performer, or his being a solid starter coupled with Rivers at guard for example allows Donaldson to unseat Gaynor. One can dream
