New stadium venues, Overtown or Tropical Park?

I'd like to see a 55k Beckham overtown deal. Kids can take the train. I'd also say overtown is about to become the next real Estate development zone. It won't be the same overtown we've known in 5-10-15 years. It will be dramatically better. Splitting costs is the only way I see a stadium happen. We don't even have a bubble yet . canes belong downtown or close to it. Beckham is all class and a world wide icon. Would be a boon for UMs global marketing with him in the luxury boxes. But ideally canes and Beckham agree to build his stadium where it could easily be expanded, and the issue addressed after we see sum life 3.0.

Yeah bro, just eliminate half of the fun for students/diehards by taking away tailgates. No but I guess they can take fireball shots with some bums on the metro.

GTFO of here with an Overtown stadium, thats a recipe for disaster.

I am fed up with the Beckham situation... either this Tropical Park idea comes to fruition or were going to see out the lease with No Life.

Even if they could get a 50k stadium, the lack of parking would be a killer. They'd have to partner up with the Marlins to use their parking garages and have a deep network of shuttle buses from the garages to the stadium.

Why are we even discussing Beckham? This ship sailed a long time ago. It is Tropical Park or bust.

For reasons stated earlier, 'seeing out the lease' at Sun Life might be idiotically bad...or, at least, about as intelligent as going for a midnight stroll around the neighborhoods surrounding Beckham Stadium.

UM has passed the buck too long, and the check is beginning to come due. As bad as playing in the anticeptic and unenjoyable Sunlife has been for the program, at least the terms of the lease are somewhat favorable. In 15 years, with no alternatives, UM might find that to be different.

You're probably not even old enough to drink...lol...just stop with the tropical park idea...PUBLIC LAND will never go to a PRIVATE School....we can stay at sun lifeless stadium till the lease runs out, then what? If UM hasn't acquire land by now for a stadium, what makes you think they will in 15 years when it is more expensive? I don't know about you, but I will gladly sacrifice a hotdog and a beer before the game, If I can take the train to the game. I will sacrifice tossing a football before the game for a stadium that's packed and loud AF....

I think you're in the minority on this one. Tailgating is a big part of the game for a lot of people.

Is Moore Park a real possibility? This thread is the first I've ever heard of that location. Tropical Park & Overtown were the only options to SunLife as far as I knew.

TP seems unlikely zt this point since UM hasn't made a move on it and they've been talking about it for 20yrs.

I know I am...I'm just saying, it's easier to find a spot to tailgate than to find a spot to build a stadium. Let's focus on making it more convenient for people to get there, especially the students.

So those who complain about empty seats at Joe Robbie suggest we partner with Beckham's group so there can be a a ton of empty seats for their games? Why the $&×% would they want to do that? How does that make sense to anyone?

At 45k, that would give us the third or fourth smallest BCS conference stadium. That's not something a school that aspires to championships should do. In our good times, we average larger crowds than that so you're essentially turning money away.

Partnering with Beckham has been a dumb idea from the start. Not just for us, but them as well regarding our needs.

We don't even need good times... 77k for UF game in 2013.

How many of those in attendance were gator fans??? Let's not kid ourselves. The orange bowl didn't get packed unless it was an FSU coming to town.

Either way. I'm just sayin we can sell 2x as many tickets as that proposed soccer stadium for big games even when we suck. And no stadium is gonna be packed every game regardless, b/c it's south FL and we only have 18k kids at UM. That's another reason I feel like Canes game day is more of a pro football experience than a college one... most of the fans have no real connection to the university, and that's fine. The WEZ was phenomenal support in the OB. Nothing like it but the Black Hole of Raiders fans.

We need to come up with an alternative so that we're not at the mercy of SunLife when the lease is up, but I don't think a tiny stadium is the answer.

Not sure if you have been reading from the first page. But what Beckham wants is 30k. If he can find a way to expand to 45 for UM games, it would be perfect. And yes it feels like an NFL game day experience especially at Sunlife, however, is that what we want to showcase when we bring recruits? Top recruits want the college experience, that is why we lose so many to FSU and UF and even some of the smaller schools. This business has changed from the time we last won a NC. We need to catch up fast! Hiring Mark Richt was the first step.

I have. My point is that even the OB was a pro game like experience. During the streak, attendance for most games sucked... but those big games were UNREAL! Even 45k is not big enough to handle the big games.

Miami fans are mostly front runners, and nobody is going to come out to watch UM play Wake Forest on a Saturday afternoon. That's just how it is. Big games at night, people show up. Otherwise, not so much. That was true for the greatest home field ever (OB) and is still true for one of the worst (SunLife).

As for recruiting... guys who want to play in front of a loving college town crowd are not going to get that here. We don't have that kind of fan base. What we do get for big games is a stadium full of savage Canes fans that want the opposing team and fans to regret ever setting foot in Miami. Guys who want that big man on campus college town vibe aren't ever going to be happy here.

You're delusional if you think there was 77k for that Florida game. Upper deck was empty in the corners.
