New stadium venues, Overtown or Tropical Park?

For some reason some people think our brand is too big to play in a stadium of 45k capacity. Like many posters who used to go to games at the OB said, it wasn't always packed when we were good. Miami the city, has too many things to do on a Saturday and driving to Miami Gardens is not one of the most appealing ones. If the heat can play in front on 19k, why can't the canes play in front of 45? Get on the Beckham wagon before it's too late. Fans won't have to choose whether to attend a game or go drinking in Wynnwood, Brickell or the grove. They're all right next door to beckhams new site. And please enough of the tailgating complaints. The orange bowl had the same issues.

Playing in Beckham's stadium would assure the programs survival for a long time. Students deserve to jump on the metro and watch their team in the heart of this great city. Sorry palm beachers gotta drive down to Miami. A move to Overtown is inevitable once the stadium is built. This sentiment is shared by all the alumni who live work and play in this city. In other words BRING THE CANES BACK HOME. Dolphins should do the same but we all know that's not happening.

In addition: Have you seen all the upcoming entertainment development happening on the river near where the stadium will be? We will tailgate all over the city and could even take the Miami river board walk to the stadium from brickell, about a mile walk. As far as traditional tail gating there are many ways to resolve. Parks like the Miami greenway and Lummus park are ideal. Also certain streets can closed off on game days for tailgating. If you want the canes to win more and support to keep growing you want them back in the heart of Miami.

I think the problem is that some folks still remember the excruciatingly infrequent sellouts of the OB and want to think we can do that for all of our games. Fact is, we CANT.

What I would like to see, ideally, would be a 45-50K stadium. Something that could be extended by another 10K for a big game. How about we do another horseshoe like the OB (Or a []_[] shape ) , where the open part could be filled with temp seats, like the old OB. Something like that, very compact, on campus. Anyone who has been to a gator home game can attest to the fact that you can fit a whole lot of people into a very compact site.

At least the guy is trying. So many times you hear "a stadium close to campus is never going to happen," but no one really did anything about it. I appreciate him trying to get the ball rolling.

Everyone should get behind him because our school and AD have no ***ing plan.

You mean except the plan that is the BOT and Athletic dept working with Lemonis to look at the feasibility of Tropical Park?

We need an on campus stadium.

Buy up the golf course/ country club behind the nursing school and there's your land.

Is that a joke?

No. BOT should look in to this, that way the land would literally be on campus and plenty of space for parking. Would also leave room for the university to grow in the future.... add new buildings etc

I'm sure I've heard of dumber, less feasible ideas, but I can't think of one right now.

You mean all 2K of them who would bother to turn up for free seats?? We should build a $200 million stadium so that they can have 20 mins less of a commute..

Sure! That makes great sense!

Is that a joke?

Absolutely. It ain't for sale and never will be. Guaranteed.

Eminent domain

Wait wait wait. Eminent domain by a city that would never authorize and would vote down a stadium?

Yep, has to be trolling.

You gotta think bigger. We can get the golf course if we really want it. It's not even a nice golf course.

You mean the golf course that Riviera CC just spent $10 million renovating into a top three course in the county? Then what do you do, buy up $1 - $3 million homes with 1/3 acre lots. That's cheap land for sure. Then put expressway ramps into Coral Gables for traffic 6 days a year. You keep doing what you're doing cause you must be enjoying it.

In 2002 or 2003 we had 48K season tickets. We still didn't sell out the OB. Ideally we'd play in a 55K seat stadium, but 40-45 would be fine.

Lol @ top 3 course in the country. It's not even a top 3 course in South Florida.

It's s relatively inexpensive and unremarkable golf course - not too different from any suburban golf course in America really. Just buy the land and build

They pay a +/- $600 athletic fee a year. Obviously the students aren't the only reason for moving to a closer stadium, but having our small amount students graduating with a love for the football program would pay dividends in the long run. My belief is that a stadium in the city would harvest their passion more often than sun life ever will & that's just one of the benefits of moving to a stadium in MIAMI.

There is without a doubt not going to be an on campus stadium. The school recently announced that we'd be building like 6 new dorms and tearing down the freshman dorms. Plus the UHealth building is going to be getting finished up soon. The only way there'd be even close to enough space is if they tore down Mahoney-Pearson and put it in that area. Still the parking would be bad, the tailgating wouldn't be so good, and the traffic would blow.

40-45 ain't gonna cut it.

Just buy up the golf course next to the nursing school and...boom. UM has just doubled the size of their campus, with plenty of room for future construction including a stadium

County, not country. That would be ridiculous. You obviously haven't seen the new design opening in a couple of months. Still, keep trolling.

What's more important - building an on-campus stadium and giving the university space to grow, or golf?

Judging by your low post count, it's obvious where you come down on that debate. But for those of us who care about the University of Miami, that land could be used for much better purposes than just another middling Florida golf course.

Join Doral. It's much nicer anyway.

I've just given you guys a feasible plan for how we can double our campus size, have our own on-campus stadium, increase the amount of land available for the medical campus, etc.

And it's really not that hard.

Naysayers, haters, and golf enthusiasts are gonna do their thing....but you can't tell me it wouldn't work.

After reading all the comments about pluses and minuses of different stadiums, I sent the following tweet to Marcus Lemonis:

Marcuslemonis MiamiHurricanes If you do get a new stadium funded and permitted, how about a design that looks like the old Orange Bowl?

Marcus replied:

Stony157 MiamiHurricanes bingo

If Marcus does get the Tropical Park stadium moving, a smaller version of the OB would be perfect. A horseshoe with palm trees at the open end, sideline seats near the field, a West End Zone, but this one with nice skyboxes and modern bathrooms. Let's get this idea spread.
