New stadium venues, Overtown or Tropical Park?

It has nothing to due with attendance...IT'S NOT A COLLEGE ATMOSPHERE.

College games are all about the vicinity of the fans. Do you recall how lame it was when we beat a then #12 ranked UF team at home? Did it feel like home field advantage to you, even though it was "packed?" The fans are supposed to be closer to field. The student section is supposed to be right on top of the opponents. The stadium is supposed to jump and rock. That's a college atmosphere.

Even w/ all the renovations being done, SLS still does not provide a game day atmosphere for the collegiate experience. Those locker rooms are still not ours...those SEAT COLORS have nothing to do with the Hurricanes. The renovations are for the Dolphins and the Dolphins only. Those renovations are for Ross' bid for the Super Bowl in the future and other major events....AGAIN, they are not for us and that's why IT STILL does not feel like home field advantage for us or a collegiate atmosphere for football.

But we've never had a college atmosphere. Miami is not like other schools. The stadium will never be small enough to fill up for most games and won't be big enough for the big ones. They sold 77k for the UF game in 2013 at SunLife.

Don't get me wrong SunLife sucks, but it will look a helluva lot better when the Canes are winning big games again.

The OB was definitely a college atmosphere. Fans were right on top of teams. It jumped....location and fan vicinity is everything. Can't convince me otherwise.

The way we've been as a program these last 12 years, proximity will not fill seats. A closer stadium is Ideal but if we were constantly a top 25 team people would go to games no matter where we play.

Alright. I get you now. You're talking about the energy level. That's no doubt. I was sayin we're never gonna be a UF or Bama or Texas in terms of a college game day atmosphere. I guess I always thought of Canes games as more like a pro atmosphere than anything with all of the GA and the beer sales in the stadium.


At least in the OB, everything was orange, so it was easy to switch and feel at home. Plus, the "City of Miami welcomes you to the orange bowl"... the place was more than the field where the Dolphins play.

We're sayin the same though... SunLife is not good for football as is. Too wide open and corporate. Like somebody said earlier, it's got no soul.

But thats the thing, we cant gaurantee that. And we shouldn't have to be embarrassing when we have anaverage team certain seasons. Even in good seasons attendance optics are bad for small games.

Dap on that brotha....I feel where you're coming from...and you're right, we're never going to be like a UF/Bama/LSU...there's too much to do out here vs. at those aforementioned schools, their college teams are their everything.

But, I'm hoping we can still get into a better game day venue. When they talked about the renovations, I got pumped. I thought the seats were going to be closer...then I saw they were at the distance, and they had "luxury seats" and a renovated luxury box and then they turned the seats to aqua blue! I was for sure these renovations were not in our best interest, but Ross'.
 
If we're talking about building our own stadium that's one thing. But sharing with soccer is utterly retarded and would be a downgrade from our current situation.

Also, who cares about attendance? You guys sound like a bunch of whiny faqqoty gator fans in this thread. Crying because Mark May or that chick announcer on espn 7 cracked a joke about our attendance. It's Miami, they're going to find something to ***** about. If you guys had your way, instead of bashing our empty stadium the same members of the media would be laughing at our rinky dink 40k seat stadium that look like it belongs at a high school in Texas.

For you attendance whores, let's remember that our current stadium just had the capacity reduced by 10,692 seats to about 65k. 65 is a nice number. 40-50 is going to look good in there but it's still big enough for a big game crowd. Keep in mind it's about 15k less than the ob max.

Even if we had a closer stadium, unless Ticket Prices go down we'll see bad attendance for average to bad teams especially if we continue they way we've been these last 12 years. Sun-Life renovations raised ticket prices but the product on the field for both the Canes and Dolphins haven't been anywhere close the price of admissions.

Playing at FIU stadium would be an upgrade over that piece of garbage on the county line.

Sorry...but even a joint situation with the soccer team IN DADE COUNTY, represents a HUGE upgrade from our current situation.

It cannot be understated...we need to get the **** out of Dolphin stadium...at all costs. It's one of the worst college football experiences in the country.
 
The powers that were should have looked into using Moore Park as the site for a stadium years ago - 15+ acres right next to 95 and 195.

And something many fans may not know, Miami played at Moore Park before the Orange Bowl existed. I don't recall the first time they played there, but they played in the 1933 Palm Festival (precursor to the Orange Bowl) against Manhattan (maybe?) and shockingly won.

Unfortunately, they just renovated the park there, so it's unlikely that anything will happen. However, this should have happened years ago - maybe decades ago.

How many people go to Santa's Enchanted Cesspool on an average weeknight during the freakin holiday season? 20k or more? With ample tailgate space and early lot openings that location could handle 40-45k 6 times a year.
 
If the school doesn't act on another venue of some sort, it will be interesting to see what happens when the current lease with Sunlifeless expires.

With no leverage of any kind, as well as no guarantee of what the Phins ownership will resemble 15 years from now, there really wouldn't be any way to stop from getting fleeced.

No, regardless of whether it is at Tropical Park, Beckham Stadium, or somewhere else, the program will eventually need a permanant home, and not as a tenant, but as an owner or a partner.

Thinking that Sunlifeless is a permanent solution is foolhardy, and potentially, harmful to the program's future.
 
You could always push the idea of allowing high schools to play in the tropical park location, especially when its a big matchup between 2 schools...

They did it all the time in the OB....

The University of Miami is located in Coral Gables just off 57th avenue...Tropical Park is on 78-79th avenue. Both are close to Bird Road/Miller.

This is all true...but beyond the lack of future leverage and the uncertainty that inherently comes along with renting...the issue that continues to stare us in the face is the fact the stadium ******* sucks. Zero atmosphere, even when there's a big game and a good crowd.

I've been to several college stadiums in several different parts of the country...I have yet to find a worse gameday experience than Sunlifeless stadium. For the love of God the stadium in Tampa that USF uses is a dump and it's still a better gameday experience than ours.

I have been saying this for awhile. We have no ***ing plan and no leverage. It will be interesting to see what happens as we get closer to the expiration date of the lease. Oh and the ***ing stadium stadium sucks and offers nothing in terms of feeling like it is our place or our home.
