My thoughts on the freshman class (long)

If you had to compare/rate Owens/Young to Figueroa, in terms of future prospects. How do they compare ?

Figueroa was a stud, too. Owens is smart and will do nothing but work and improve. Young I heard has a bit of a temper but nothing alarming. They are all cut from the same cloth in terms of being big/fast guys who play with passion.

I can't wait to see that rage on display bobby bouche style

Top to bottom its as good a class as I can remember, on paper. Not many weaknesses and we have seen plenty of classes over the years that were top heavy. There are future starters littered throughout the class. It seemed that way on signing day and as they have played it's only reinforced my beliefs.

The biggest takeaway from the past two classes is that there seem to be very few JAG's.

5 kids from the 2013 class never made it in or are gone (Griffin, Bond, Lockley, Figueroa, Sandland).

While I think it's too early to start classifying sophomores and freshmen as JAGs, there will be some JAGs in both classes. We just need to have more impact and rotational guys than JAGs.

I remember people laughing at Paranos when he posted Courtel Jenkins stuff before he was offered and committed. That kid worked his *** off and stayed loyal when other schools came calling. Good to read about him doing well.

I never expected Jenkins to be ahead of Moore, King, Wyche, and Moten. I love being wrong especially about a DT.

Nick Linder- Promising but physically underdeveloped. Worked at C and G. He handled himself well against our top DTs and may be a future starter once he gets his strength up to par.

This scares me...I love Linder and his tenacity, but he shouldn't be even close to "handling himself well against our top DTs" as an under-developed OL.

D$ please tell me I'm being paranoid and ease my concerns.

I doubt he is manhandling anyone. All a center has to be able to do, especially an undersized one, is angle the guy in front of you the way it's drawn up. Don't have to piledrive him, just move him the way you want.

D money do you think moten could become at least a all-acc type dt?

Too early to say but his physical tools are there. He has generated positive buzz, in addition to what I've seen myself.

And based off of last year, having some fresh legs in the middle of the season would be a big boost to the D.

Great post. I cannot wait to see CT9 do his thing. Expecting a dynamic, disruptive force. Have not been this excited about a defensive player in a long time.

Also agree 100% about Berrios. Canes fans will love this kid. I expect him to be a weapon on 3rd down and a guy who makes clutch plays to keep drives alive.

Btw, please refer to the recruiting boards about TV where I got killed for saying I felt Courtel Jenkins was going to be a better player in the end. His quick development is only adding to that opinion.

I said the same thing. I believed he was going to be better than TV & Moten. Mainly because his junior year he dominated. Worked real hard 3 times a day in the off season. Transferred to a more competitive conference. Same school as Kiy Hester. Dominated. Season was over he went straight to work. Came to camp in shape and with a chip on his shoulder and voila from D MONEY perspective already the 2nd best NT as a TRUE FR..... Redshirt my ***. JENKINS is going to a top 3 rd Draft Pick wouldn't be surprised if he goes on the first day because of work ethic alone. The boy loves to learn work on his craft and dominate. I respect that.

Been a big fan of Courtel. I'm not surprised he's emerging as a rotation Nose for us bc he fits that role perfectly. With that said, I do worry about our Nose rotation consisting of 2 guys who have never played a BCS season before. Makes it a virtual certainty that they will wear down significantly as the season goes on IMO. Especially Jenkins.

I dont think that'll be a problem as we can still rotate pierre and Moore in there and Wyche should be well conditioned by mid season... i believe we're trending up in the DL rotation

Let's hope we can even at this stage get about 10 plays from wyche to compliment Heuto and Jenkins. good thing the tough games at the beginning are not like the Florida game, in the middle of the day in Florida. weather could work in our favor.

Courtel Jenkins is the the surprise of this class (IMO). Seeing his film I thought it would take 2-3 years before we saw and meaningful impact. sounds like he really worked hard to drop some bad weight to get ready to contribute. I'll be happy to be wrong on him

From his film and all of the reports from camp it sounds like Trent Harris is incredibly instinctive. Why not let the guy move around and play the other LB positions a little?

The development of Courtel is awesome. This class has so many kids who are ready to contribute.

Great post and as someone stated this is by far the best canes site on the web. That being said I will reserve judgement. I remember DMoney doing the same with the 2010 class about a year after they stepped on campus. He didn't call it great but said it was way better than on paper and I distinctly remember him citing that we had found two big LBs that could run in unknowns Cain and Gaines........

Great info. It sounds like a remarkably low number of kids who have yet to flash anything yet. I'm very excited about Young/Owens, and I'm scared to get excited about Courtel but so many people are saying good things it's hard not to.

Agee on Jenkins but this kid has worked hiss *** off. Last year he lost a bunch of weight to better prepare for college then got here and just kept working to put good weight back on. He seems like one of those kids that has that itch to be a great one and is willing to work to make it happen.
