Bringing in a leader to a room that needs more leadership isn’t really an “insane” move. Not fully ok with Wes/Alderman being the lone vets in that room. This guy can at least help set the tone.
You’re okay with this strategy in year 4? I’m not. We needed more, imo.

I wanted more too. This isn’t an endorsement of their spring portal strategy in general, just of this specific move. I think he makes the room better, but agree that room still isn’t good enough.
My expectations on a guy with that injury history is very low but point taken.

From 2021 to 2025 we recruited 7 4-stars and 2 3-stars who are still on roster, with 3 additional 3-stars who have since left the program. Bryant moved to DE.
  • 1 in 2021 -- Manny recruit: Chase Smith (#278 All Positions, #15 Athlete)
  • 1 in 2022: Wes (#188 All Positions, #18 LB)
  • 4 in 2023: Malik Bryant (#169 All Positions, #16 LB), Popo (#204 All Positions, #20 LB), Bobby W (#433 All Positions, #37 LB)
  • 2 in 2024: Hayes (#123 All Positions, #8 LB), Bobby P (#490 All Positions, #45 LB)
  • 2 in 2025: Wiley (#246 All Positions, #27 LB), Marcelin (#529 All Positions, #56 LB)
  • 3 3-stars transferred out (2021 Troutman and Johnson and 2023 Pulliam)
Given their average HS rankings and the general stability of the room from a player perspective, this group should be turning heads right now. Instead, we're hoping transfers from Louisville, NC State and potentially Rutgers will shore up an unreliable unit. That's disappointing. I hope they way outperform current expectations.

Hetherman has a track record of turning low rated players into All Conference linebackers in a short period of time. If history repeated itself as it often does, we should expect see one of the LB that every one has written off to take a big step with Hetherman’s coaching and become an All ACC caliber LB. He, for sure has more raw talent to work with here at Miami, than he has ever had.

The last 2 seasons Hetherman has coached a All Conference LB

Cody Lindenberg
1st year under Hetherman

2020 85 composite 3 star, #73 OLB, #1131 Nationally

2024 1st team All Big Ten

Minnesota did not have a All conference LB in 2023, the year before Hetherman arrived

Mohamed Toure
2nd year under Hetherman

2019 85 composite 3 star, #44 ILB, #1024 Nationally

2023 Fourth Team All-Big Ten (Phil Steele)

2023 Honorable Mention All-Big Ten (Coaches & Media)

Whats he saying?

Penn State was the earlier favorite. Not necessarily anymore. Miami Penn State. I saw he just set a UNC visit too, so that changes things some. Miami has the Hetherman tie, biggest factor. He ultimately wants go to the place to maximize him and help him get to the NFL, last year. His NIL reps out of Miami.

My read true coin flip between PSU and Miami. UNC just shook it up a bit. Geo likes where it’s trending, not ready to pick Miami

Side note. I think Geo does a really good job on his discord. Sometimes it’s easier to get to info through his discord than here. He also answers questions a lot regarding recruiting.

The fact that we needed more is because 2022 and 2023 recruiting classes are nightmares

Imagine being a team located in South Florida and needing an entirely new secondary not because of graduation but because of **** poor performance

That’s tough to accomplish

25’ class will be the same with the defensive side. It’s absurd.
