Miami Lands Tennessee Safety Transfer JaKobe Thomas

Coaching matters!!! Miami Fans Coaches Assocation tend to assume with the best of them. Who is to say Hethermen cant bring the best out of Alderman? Popo, Brown, Markeith? Its about scheming up to your players.

Before all U HOF Coaches crap on the season in May, lets get through a couple games first. Because I dont care if we win 3-0 every game, I just want to win.

Portal rankings, while improving, are still flawed. But they provide valuable context because the ranking is relative to other teams.

In my opinion, the “realists” too often fail to consider that other teams have needs, too. Could we use another good DT? Absolutely. So could everyone in America. That’s why Oklahoma paid seven figures to keep David Stone from jumping in the Portal. We aren’t the only team spending on limited supply.

I saw my guy @WeBallinBoyz reference Cormani and other Portal rankings inflated by high school rankings. Okay. How many of those guys are in our class? None from what I can see. Everybody was a college starter. Almost all were from P4, and the ones who weren’t (Poyser, Blay, Brown) were among the best players at their level. The ranking is not inflated by volume, either- we are Top 3 in average Portal ranking (90.06).

Am I disappointed a receiver like Eric Singleton didn’t jump in the spring portal? Of course. WR1 was a goal that was not met. We could still use more depth at DT and safety. But this was a very productive offseason. There are still a couple things alive, but it’s pretty much done. Now it’s time to coach the guys we have and win the ACC.
Is Keionte Scott still expected to visit? If he does, you would think we should have a great chance getting him on board.

Anyone is better than Jaden Harris, but this is another JAG. Missed tackle rate between 20% and 22% each year in college. 70% career completion rate allowed.

Calling it like I see it. 🤷🏾‍♂️
From what I understand, Willie Martinez was/is the DC at tenn.
IDK how he keeps a job, but he does. He gets isht form vols' fans. I think he's trash.
Are his missed tackles correctable? Maybe that's what the staff is thinking. If so, it's on DB coach Etheridge, Safeties coach Will Harris, and DC Hetherman to get that fixed.

Ugh I remember Martinez from his days at UGA. Dawg fans hated him. Rightfully so too, his defenses were bad bad. Think Manny without the inflated sack numbers.

Portal rankings are a joke. They’re nothing like HS.

Remember Cormani McClain was a 5* portal acquisition for Florida? They just recycle HS rankings and inflate them; anyone that cites them for success or failure is lazy and doesn’t do their own due diligence. They should be taken into consideration, but certainly not validation. Was our portal class really 6th in 2023? **** no.

UNC is top 10 in the portal rankings but they brought in 32 players. Mississippi state is top 20 but they brought in 33 players.

Look at the additions with your own two eyes (not you, just saying “you” to the board in general). Make your own evaluations instead of taking the words of Wiltfong and Ivins, the guys this board loveeeeesss to **** on for crystal balls and recruiting updates, now all of a sudden as the gospel.
How exactly do all these same criticisms not apply to the regular HS rankings though? You say it's nothing like HS, but how is it not. Ok some teams grade higher due to volume, same happens out of HS.

Maybe you should just shift to On3 instead of 247 for the portal rankings. UNC this year is 21st. And in 2023 we were ranked 12th by them. And as for your Cormani example, On3 had Cormani ranked as a 5star with a 98.16 grade out of HS but a 3star with an 89.0 grade as a transfer to UF... 247 had Cormani as a 4star with a 94 grade as a transfer vs a 98 out of HS. So I mean it doesn't seem that crazy to me considering he was the #1 CB out of HS who transferred after just 1 yr...All that seems reasonable to me.

There is also a difference in that the rankings by On3 also try to account for what was lost in the portal as well. It's trying to say you added X, but Lost Y. I don't think 247 is doing that. On3 says we added 18 at avg rating of 74.5 and lost 21 with average rating of 65.7 Thats pretty similar to Ole Miss and Auburn who were mid 70s in mid 60s out. But clearly below TTU, LSU, Oregon when talking about Quality in vs Quality out. They were more in the low to mid 80s in and high 60s out. But they added fewer usually. So like whats more valuable when setting these rankings? Either way if you say we aren't top 3, you can get a general idea by looking at them that we're at least improving more than plenty of teams...

If you want to blow off the ratings by these services, do it. But I really think the portal ratings aren't uniquely all that much worse than the regular HS ones. Sure some players will be higher/lower than they should be... Same out of HS. To me either use them all or dont...

No Keionte Scott?

The thing is hetherman likes to use 3 safeties in his 4-2-5. Think that’s the reason they going after so many guys because I don’t think Brantley fits as the type he would normally have at nickel. Brantley is what 5’11 170?

Thats why I believe they would like haulcy and Thomas. Haulcy would probably play more nickel. Would be a good spot for brown too but I guess he just wants to be a outside guy

I don't think they "went after so many" at all…

And I'm sure he can adapt that 3 safety look based on the talent available. Because our top 3 corners are too talented for any of them to not be on the field.

I agree completely. .. And even still we need more safety talent.

Absolutely insane how pathetically we’ve recruited and developed in the secondary.

2026 looks really good, but a lot of other years have too and went up in smoke. This isn’t even a
Mario thing, we are allergic to good DBs as a program. Who’s the best DB this place has produced in the last 10+ years? Kam was a top 100 pick and played well his rookie year so it’s probably him but before that? Mike Jackson in like 2018 as a 5th rounder? Incredible.

They have went after a lot of safeties. Poyser, thienemam who had no interest, haulcy, king, Wilson, branch, smith, Williams, and was talking with Charles. That’s 9 on top of guys who didn’t hit the portal.

And of course he can easily stick a cb at nickle but it’s about defending the run too. Most safeties are more physical and better tacklers than a cb. One of those top 3 cb aren’t going to be starting regardless because neither of them are playing nickel. So wether it’s O’Connor, OJ, or Lucas one will be on the sideline

Pretty sure Martinez is just a DB coach there their DC was the guy we were potential poaching but then he re-signed there

Dude criminally squandered the wealth of defensive talent that he had at his disposal while DC at UGA. I do remember that.
