Miami isn't back, but...

...Miami is back on track. This thing was about to go off the rails. Mario was at risk of losing the team's trust after the Georgia Tech meltdown. We were staring at three losses in a row with a backup QB against the most dominant ACC program of the decade. The pre-game vibe at the Rock felt like a funeral. Now, it's a whole new season.

- For all his faults, Mario has done two things he promised. First, he's upgraded our trench talent. This is a Clemson team that had our OL doing splits in the backfield a couple years ago. But last night, Miami was overwhelming on both lines. They ran for 211 yards and gave up 31. Sacked Clemson five times and gave up zero. It was a bludgeoning. That type of trench play is a sustainable base for greatness.

The other thing Mario has done is build a physical team. All that tough offseason talk is showing up on Saturdays. Miami needed a yard and got it. Clemson needed a yard and couldn't get it. That's proof of culture.

- Forget building a waterslide in the weight room. If we want to spend money, send a bag of cash to Lance Guidry's house. His 3-3-5 look flustered Clemson's run game. He has now outclassed Bobby Petrino and Garrett Riley.

- I won't lie- I was in the group chat calling for Emory Williams to sit out a series (or more) in favor of Jacurri Brown. He looked like he had no confidence in the first half. But once he saw a couple shots go through the net, he began playing like the guy who impressed the coaches all camp. And when Dawson called a couple shot plays (as @LuCane was calling for), he delivered with catchable deep balls for his WR. Loved his interview on ACCN after the game- he is the definition of a God-fearing, humble kid.

- Yes, we've struck out on five-star DL this year. But we signed a six-star last year. Reuben Bain was throwing people out of the club. Elite play strength and motor. I can't remember any true freshman DL that has ever looked like that at Miami.

- I wanted to highlight Derek Nicholson, the first-year LB coach. That unit is night-and-day from last year and didn't look out of place in comparison to Clemson's elite unit. Francisco Mauigoa and KJ Cloyd were everywhere. Cloyd in particular held up admirably in coverage despite being isolated numerous times. With guys like Chase Smith and Popo Aguirre waiting in the wings, the physical talent is only getting stronger.

- Of course, we need to talk about Corey Flagg. He's a guy who has taken a beating online for things he can't change. But he's worked hard, made plays (21.5 career TFLs) and now has a highlight that will stick with him for the rest of his life.

- James Williams is starting to look like the player everyone envisioned. That torn labrum was real- he is a new player now that he's healthy. On top of his play, he's an emotional leader on this team. He was one of the first guys to find Emory Williams after the game and brings the juice consistently.

- Two guys who have flown a bit under the radar but are having outstanding seasons- Daryl Porter, Jr. and Te'Cory Couch. Porter has been invisible all year (in a good way), while Couch has been a terror on blitzes and sticky in coverage. Give Coach Addae some credit for their development.

- Leonard Taylor responded to last week's no-show with an NFL performance. So did Jared Harrison-Hunte. For two guys who were supposed to be pass-rush specialists, they were stout at the point of attack.

Miami has the soft part of the schedule coming up. But Georgia Tech was supposed to be an easy game, too. This is a huge opportunity to stay focused and reverse the narrative of this season. See you at the UVA game.
wes deserves a mention but stop with the couch stuff. hes a very good blitzer but he blows alot of coverages.

Mario also develops players. under Manny players got worse as they got older. here players are all improving at a significant level.

Yup. If Parrish is available next week then rest Don. Get him ready for NC State who has a nice D.

Nailed it. The thing I've said for years is that I want to see this program learn to deal with adversity AND success. You can't follow a big win with an egg, but Miami has done that for almost two decades. Figure out a way to stay hungry, take UVA out of this game early, let them know that it's going to be a fight and they have no chance of winning said fight. Miami should be able to ram the ball down UVA's throat next week. Come out and handle them early, don't let it be a dog fight late. If Miami can do that the next couple of weeks, get TVD healthy and get some momentum heading into Tally, there's a legit chance for a program changing upset. FSU isn't unbeatable, and we've seen that despite their high end talent(Coleman), are a bit iffy in some other spots.

I’d really like us to find some role for Jacurri, he’s way too good an athlete to not touch the ball, especially if we are going to be limited without a healthy TVD.

Was pointing out to my wife all night that Young was one on one. I was screaming for us to take some shots. Finally started to do it in the 2nd half. Clearly Dawson doesn’t trust Emory. That late INT throwing to George might explain why. Need to ramp the kid up in case he has to play against Virginia. Clemson was stacking the box and we still ran in them. The WR screens weren’t working so he shouldVe scraped that early on. Why no Brown? Figured he could give us a threat on a few QB runs. Shocked we didn’t see him play last night when the offense was stuck in mud.

On that Int I think George stopped on his route. Agree on Brown, surprised they did not have plays for him. Maybe they were being honest they were caught off guard.

As far as QB, I think we should give TVD another week to get fully healthy and give Emory the chance to take the next step.

Nice win for the kid against a top 8-10 defense…But Jesus lord you have to give Brown a series or two when you are throwing for 3 yards an attempt late in the 3rd? " Bro ball" as everyone ******* about, basically won us this game out of necessity (You couldn't expect Williams to win it), and that would have been much easier with Brown pounding a way for a series or two, along with the backs. But it's like we can't think outside the box at all? Dawson/CMC can't realize that you can play Brown and it's not a slight to the future prospects of Williams.

Don't forget Bissainthe…He is all over the field when he's in the game.

Not being talked about enough. James Williams may be the best overall player on this defense this year imo (Bain obviously is moving up fast lol)…He looks excellent.

Porter definitely a pleasant surprise. Couch was very good last night… Has his ups and downs and is what he is, I do like the way we are using him though. Having nice senior season.

Maybe we should keep playing him for more than 35 defensive snaps per game? Good things happen, amazing.

Big senior year for JHH imo…I think he can get drafted mid to late.

He is a Junior eligibility wise. I hope he decides to come back. We will have a very elite DL.

Papo we really gotta be honest about two glaring issues that you don’t see the elite teams have.

1. We are still the dumbest teams in all of the nation. Don’t even think fixing the HCs limitless intelligence is an option, he is who he is. But how do you fix that part of the culture? That’s been the biggest contributing factor to being the best team in the country at beating ourselves.

2. I watch a lot of games. No team in the nation gives up more 3rd and 10+ conversions than we do. Those are suppossed to be scary for offenses and every offense feasts on us in those situations. That can’t continue. 3rd and 18 & 20 last week for TDs. Clemsons first TD was on 3rd and 10+. We gave up a 3rd and 24 via a PI. It’s the most frustrating thing in the world to watch and it doesn’t happen to other teams as much as us

I'm almost positive he was part of JJs last recruiting class in 88/89....and yes, he was a RS Frosh in 1990....22.5 Sacks in literally only 2yrs
yeah, absolutely wild. Especially back then.

First game was 5.5 sacks against TTech, yes? Anthony Lynn (former NFL HC, now w the 9ers) as on that TTech team.

Where was all that trench talent last week?
Good win but let’s be honest, Clemson is really not that good this year.
The game day Coaching really worries me, never seen anything like it every week.

If we can continue to develop Bain, he can go down as one if not the greatest DL that ever came through Miami. That is saying a lot considering all the great players and hall of famers that came through here.

Would love it. I just can't see normal kid still wanting to come for 6th years now that we get further away from covid. Especially one that's been relatively healthy and really can't improve draft position at what will likely be age 23-24.

A lot of good things from this team that we haven’t seen for awile. The trenches are legit and won us this game and A&M

Wes B was also a beast last night too. The speed at LB finally looks to be there

One negative comment- Can we please throw to the TEs over the middle of the field. Arroyo and Williams

The freshmen are just Studs. Bain, Francis, Fletcher before injury, Emory, Ray Ray has the confidence of the staff to be returning punts, etc. future is bright and Mario is clearly recruiting the right mentality

Gotta take care of business against UVA and NC St and then we’re talking rolling into FSU at 7-2 with a chance to ruin their season
This right here!!!!😍😍😍🥰🥰🥰

If JHH and Taylor leave then yikes that DT room will be thin.

Got Moten, Horton and whoever else is brought in through the 2023 class and transfers haha.
