Miami fan raises $1.5K to fly 'Fire Al Golden' banner at VT

Thanks to everyone behind this banner, keep the pressure on this guy. Hoping he eventually gives in and just quits

Fly it every week this administration chooses to play with the fans intelligence than ****em we know a good product when we see it we ain't stupid

Let's go Hokies

Can't ever root against the Canes, but I support the banner. We have to make it clear to the administration that this crap coach selection will not be tolerated by the fan base. They do not have a couple hundred thousand extra fans with nothing to do on Saturdays to count on. Attendance has always been fragile but the program was great. This is all on the administration. I would support another banner calling for refund of Donna's salary and forfeit of her pension. We must embarrass the school itself not just the current sucky coach. What we really need is the ACC to threaten to throw Miami out because it has sucked so bad since we joined the conference -- I am sure they were hoping for THE U and criminoles to continue to fight for dominance of college football -- like SEC had since then.

Preach the good word.

Scuba, like the sarcasm of your avatar, but the graph is going the wrong way.

Its a night game who's going to see it and its an away game. Somebody is getting paid off of this stupidity and making the fans who fund the cause look stupid. Because thats free money from a vulnerable group of fans. I applaud the passion in what you guys believe in but its killing us more than the coach himself is in recruiting and team morale. The firing will be up to the administration and donors and apparently they aren't interested right now. I'm sure there will be some changes in the off season as we all are hoping but I doubt that its the head coach. I'm sure they will make some changes on the defensive side and possibly S&C. I'm all for a change of the Head coach as well but me personally wouldn't go that route but to each their own and hopefully we didn't get that change with the minimal of damage in recruiting with a nice class in the awaiting and recruits already leaving left and right.

Change will never happen if we, as fans, become complacent like Golden. We REFUSE to become what Golden and the Hurricanes have become, a team complacent to go 7-5. That is unacceptable.

Banner doesn't bother me but to anyone that thinks this is going to push the uppity ups to make a call one way or the other are delusional. Yeah espn mentioned it as did some others but outside of this board , nobody is spending more than 10 seconds thinking about the banner. Hey, I guess it can't hurt but I don't believe it has any effect. The banner flew in 97 and butch was coaching 3 yrs later. In the end it will be wins and loses and we all know how that will work out.

No school this small has EVER flown a "Fire Golden" banner at an away game!!

(That's my Scooter impersonation)

I may have missed it, but what is this one going to say? Hoping it has "save the players" in the message.

you guys are the worst fans... period. Flying banners like petulant babies. Your team has made strides this year with a true freshmen under center and improvements on D. Yes Miami should not lose as many games as you have. But you are trending in the right direction and should have seen this with average classes in 12 and 13.

I have beach front property in South Dakota to sell you. PM for the details.

It is going to say
Save the U and our Players. Fire golden

Eh. I'm pretty sure Golden will find a firing on his own merit. But I do think that the more of this we see the more toxic the job gets for a guy with options--which puts us in a position to hire the next Al Golden.

pretty **** poor line of thinking. loser speak.

a real coach looks at the players on this team and the access to the best talent in the country and gets a boner. F/A/Gs product speaks for itself to anyone with a very small amount of football knowledge.

the banners just put more pressure on the admin to do something about it. other programs that are serious about winning dont have to worry about banners cus they would have fired F/A/G in the offseason

Boy that sounds good. But somewhere in reality the last three coaches we've hired are Coker, Shannon, and Golden. We don't pay our coaches much and we don't dedicate the greatest resources. And now our newest reality is that the same fanbase that can't be bothered to go to a games is flying more banners than anyone in history. That sounds like a decent sell to the up and coming assistant or to the Temple coach, but to a guy like Gary Patterson or Rich Rodriguez? Maybe not so much.

Personally I think Golden's mediocrity is doing a good enough job to get him fired. That will be his undoing IMO--the team underachieves, the games are empty, the former players are upset. That will get him fired just like it did Coker and Shannon. The more of the banner stuff we see, the more of a mockery this becomes and the job gets even less attractive IMO. That's why a lot of people are praying we get Butch--because he's probably the one guy out there who seems somewhat proven and that might fall into our lap. Otherwise, get ready for the next Al Golden and hoping that this time we get it right.

You said the product speaks for itself which is right. Yet we think we have to fly banners every week to tell people what they can see.

The last sentence says it all. Thanks.

Al Golden(2.148M) makes more than Hugh Freeze(Ole Miss 2.0M), Gary Andersen(Wisconsin 2.04M), Mark Stoops(Kentucky 2.0M), Mark Dantonio(Mich St 1.98M), Mark Helfrich(Oregon 1.8M), Brian Kelly(Notre Dame 1.08M), Ruffin McNeill(ECU 1.15M).

Last years average annual salary in the SEC was 2.9M.

University of Miami endowment is 779M compared to Florida State University 548M, and Virginia Polytechnic institute and state university 769M.

Miami pays for their coaches, i never buy that argument. Golden just sucks.

We also pay more for their buyouts. Might be smarter to invest the money on the front end.
