Miami Evaluating New DB

The 4.69 is not concerning because it may not be accurate.

Ahmon Richards has a 4.68 40 yard dash time on his ESPN recruiting profile from a regional combine in 2015. However, we all know Ahmon is one of the fastest kids on the team. He may have slipped, it may have been a slow track, he may have had a bad day, etc. It is simply not an accurate time.

For example, Trajan Bandy ran a 4.51 at the NIKE Opening on July 5, 2016; however, he only ran a 4.68 at the Miami regional event on March 6, 2016.

Why is not possible for Richards to run a 4.68 as a junior in hs? I think a lot of people who follow cfb recruiting have unrealistic expectations for teenagers' 40 yard dash times.

Kids will put they run a 4.4 or 4.5 on their hudl tape but run 4.6s and 4.7s at combines. That 13 sec 100m concerns me

People have been ruined by all the bs times from the past. Rarely kids run 4.4 or lower. All the hh times are crap

4.5-4.6 electronic is fast.

True 1953 or carolcityhigh or both did some posts of Nike 40 times across the US a little while back and very few broke 4.5. out the thousands running in them.

I found it and cut and pasted it here--
Many of those 40 times as put out for public consumption are done by unofficial timing such a coaches, other players, friends, etc.

• In these elite combines 250-400 kinds are invited and they are the best.

• Often as much as 35% of the players will not run the 40 due to the fear a bad time will hurt them.

• The 40 practiced and performed at the Pro Indy Combine is done by players who undergo many weeks of specialized training at various pro camps to get the start down and when to move at the start so as to get the best time.

• I can list hosts of high school players who have run national elite or near national elite high school standard times in the 50m and 100m and performed "relatively slow" Nike 40 times due to the aforementioned mentioned factors.

• True sub 4.50 HS 40s under measurable standards are not that common and are not done by one position, etc.

• a couple of examples--

Remember that big comparison post either Carolcityhigh or 1953 put up about how many people break 4.50 at those Nike Combines. If he did 4.69--as a junior that is OK The vertical and the short shuttle show a guy that is faster than 4.69. How much?

That aside he is listed at 6-2 and 190-195 so has the side.

The one thing I recall about him was a little academic/grade trouble. May or may not be true.

That statement about academic is interesting as his offers are not the greatest and schools like Samford Middle Tenn. State and Liberty did not offer him.
Tariq Carpenter Recruit Interests
.

Here are his track bests and they were all done in 2016--
Personal Records
100m - 13.27
High Jump - 5-8
Long Jump - 19-7
Triple Jump - 39-7

This player is questionable in some areas---maybe why few offers

Just to clear some things up.....IDK where you got this 100m time but Tariq doesn't run track. Yes he ran a 4.69 in Charlotte at the Opening, which was in April 2016 but his 40 time is a 4.5. He's underrated and is a explosive player.

Tariq runs a 4.5 in his 40 since his senior year and his correct height and weight is 6'3 200...Let's just start there. His grades are very good so idk where that info came from. Yes he's very underrated and Miami will be Glad they found him. Oh and he doesn't run track and field so IDK where that 100m time came from either it's obviously a mistake. He's a needle in the haystack.

He has other offers from UMASS, Georgia Tech, Memphis, NC State, Gs, GEORGIA State, Tulane and a few more.

6'3 200? Does he have the frame to put on 25lbs and play LB ala Spence/Grace?

Didn't take long for the " add weight , change position" post.

I'm a firm believer in the Jimmy Johnson rule. I don't want plodding behemoths getting their ankles broken by quicker, faster opposing players. In this era of the spread formation and read option, the last thing we need are defenders who can't run with their counterparts on offense.

I feel ya but not every player isn't capable of switching and maybe he's better at the position he's playing.

Posters here are obsessed with making every te over 240 a ol, any wr over 6'3 200 a te, any db over 6'2 200 a lb.

It depends on how well the coaches can evaluate.

Butch had Shockey, McKinnie and Edge after signing day. Probably others, too, but these were a few of the names that worked out well....

So yall gonna tell me these late reaches arent the same thing Golden doing? Robert Knowles anyone?

Butch's "post-signing-day" guys were not "Plan C". Edge had academic issues, and McKinnie and Shockey were JuCo guys. You might as well be comparing apples to orcas.

1953, I'm Tariq's mom if anyone knows what he hhs acccomplished in life it's me dear. And this will be UCFs second home visit that was scheduled months ago. But you keep watching since your obviously a fan.

No offense but if he never ran track who is this? I think your son looks very good for a big safety.

Eh, I don't think we should be forcing ourselves to replace Billy Gibson's spot. Seems like what we are doing.

Not a fan of his offer list or the fact that we've only been on him recently.

Then again, i just don't think Derrick Smith should be a take either so what do I know.

I do not think 1953 is that negative. If you look at his posts as I went back and did -- #45 , # 46, #101 , #102 he is pretty complimentary and defended your sons "poor" 40 Nike combine time with facts about many who have had less than satisfactorily times at Nike. He was very complimentary of his vertical and short shuttle. In addition, many others on the board questioned that Nike 40 that was not originated by 1953.
Best to you and your son.

I trust evaluation of Richt and his defensive coaches 100 times more than the posters here. How many recruits they evaluated then signed up who turned out to be busts?

Assuming this is a Golden redux is not based on facts. Only the posters who use every opportunity to criticize Richt or someone like Vern, the leader of the doom and gloom parade will bring Golden name here.

High school and college 40 times are bogus as ****. I don't know why people continually get caught up on that stuff. Dorset has our 40 time record and he didn't even come close to Swasey's slow hand b.s. with months to train for the combine.

I'm just going to stay out of this topic though regarding the player. I could make a case either way, but I'm greedy so Ill leave it at that.

Best to you and your son.

STB did a lot more to talk positive about your sons "off" 40 than most if not all of the other posts on this thread using real facts from Nike. The fact he brings up and can show actual documented track times and field events does not in anyway make him a "bad" person or against your son. If you take time to look at the overall posts over the years on this board almost all players right or wrong have come under scrutiny from the posters. This recruiting business is very tough, very competitive, and strenuous on these young men, their families ( i know personally) and the coaches as if they fail to get the proper recruits the usually do not last long.
Best wishes to you and your son as I am sure he will do well here, UCF or any other school he chooses to attend.
