Miami Evaluating New DB

This is a nice find by the coaching staff. With Paris Ford looking unlikely, this could be a viable replacement for Billy Gibson.

The recruiting newbies seem to forget that some kids slip through the cracks and that our staff is constantly evaluating and resetting the board.

Kid has off the charts athletic ability.

Tariq Carpenter ESPN COMBINE SPARQ RATING
4.69 40 yard dash
4.10 20 yard shuttle
42 inch vert
34 foot power throw
115.15 SPARQ RATING

The 4.69 is not great but it could have been a slow track or something. The kid is an all state caliber high, long and triple jumper.

Haven't watched film but this is the type of physical ability you want.
A 4.69 is actually very solid for a HS junior. Add in an elite vertical and great shuttle. What was his size height/weight?

Edit*: nevermind, saw he's listed at 6' 2" 190.
4.69 very solid for a DB ? There are LBs faster than that

You obviously don't know much about recruiting.

Jaquan, Knowles, Finley, Wright, James, Carter, Smith

why the need for another safety?

Guys like Deon Bush, Keanu Neal and Jayron Kearse all ran 4.6s at the combine. 4.69 is fine as a high school junior.

The 4.69 is not concerning because it may not be accurate.

Ahmon Richards has a 4.68 40 yard dash time on his ESPN recruiting profile from a regional combine in 2015. However, we all know Ahmon is one of the fastest kids on the team. He may have slipped, it may have been a slow track, he may have had a bad day, etc. It is simply not an accurate time.

For example, Trajan Bandy ran a 4.51 at the NIKE Opening on July 5, 2016; however, he only ran a 4.68 at the Miami regional event on March 6, 2016.

Jaquan, Knowles, Finley, Wright, James, Carter, Smith

Depth. We know what we're getting with JJ. But the other guys are unknowns and two injuries to either of those players including Jaquan and we're in trouble.

but guys like Deon Bush and even Dallas Crawford were listed as running 4.45/4.5s in high school...in fact SB nation did a study that showed 150 out 203 players studied ran a slower time than their high school number...so according to your arguement we're looking at a solid 4.75/4.8 from this kid

Hopefully the listing is wrong I just dont aee how a 4.69 is solid, especially when these numbers are usually exaggerated not the other way around

You can look at his film and make your decision. He doesn't look slow to me.

Jaquan, Knowles, Finley, Wright, James, Carter, Smith

why the need for another safety?

That's three freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior with little-to-no experience at the actual spot; Jaquan played S sparingly. I believe in our guys but we need to stack talent regardless.

I didn't see Dallas Crawford listed as running a 4.45 or whatever at any event. Did Deon Bush run at one of the events? The thing with times at events is that, for the most part, they're filled with variables. What did some of the other DBs in this player's event run?

Either way, I rather the event times than whatever a kid had his coach time him. Just the balls to run at an event is partly impressive. Lots of guys skip the 40 because they think they'll be inappropriately judged (which they will be).

Good thing we crapped the bed with Collier

That was Gibson that f d him. Gibson said he was solid and re-affirmed. Collier committed to UCF he following Monday...

His own teammate. Smh.

That's what these kids don't understand about the games they play. They cost other kids -- sometimes their their own good friends -- the opportunity to play at a school they'd die to represent.

Looking at his film, the kid's 40 time is probably due to his runnung style. Probably doesn't start well at all. Looks to have good long speed as he closes well in space. I wonder if he runs track at all.

Go look up the sparq combine and tell me how many HS juniors ran under a 4.55. Bet you'll be surprised. 4.1 shuttle and 42 vert indicate he's a quick twitch explosive athlete he probably just needs some training to run a 40.
