Met a guy who interns for an NFL agent

I've been talking up Ryan for months. He would destroy destroy college. His personality is a perfect fit, at least for the old, real UM. College kids would eat his personality up, and the man is a great great defensive coach. Think he's been hampered by ****** ownership and Idzik with the Jets. The fact he got Mark ******* Sanchez to back to back AFC titles says a ton

Before I even get into it…I think it’s a pipe dream. We have all been forced, barring a miracle *cough* blow out/BOT awakening *cough*to resign ourselves to Folden as our coach next year.

A friend of mine from college lives in NYC. Went down last weekend and at a party met a guy in law school, pursuing a career as a sports agent. We talked sports for a bit, mainly NFL and NHL. Someone brought up NCAA football and who will win the NC, I just basically said I cant even talk about college FB or I’ll jump out a window. Naturally they ask “who’s your team?” I say UM, I get a couple generic statements weren’t a lot of sports nuts there) but the guy I was originally talking with says “word on the street is Golden is toast”.

Now at this point, about a million things go through my mind (excitement. Anger. Confusion. Disbelief.) What does he know??? Could it be true??? Like a crackhead my heart races as if I’m about to find my next score…is he connected??? I catch myself as I have before when I see a rumor on twitter and pray Golden is on the block, but then realize it’s BS. I basically just figured he had seen something mentioned online/twitter and took it as gospel. Was a lot out there the last couple weeks, but we have all basically come to the conclusion we are stuck with him. This is all probably still true, but I’ll admit it…I took the bait.

Asked him what he knew…said he’s had a couple internships and right now was working at a spot in NJ near Metlife stadium. Said it’s a smaller outfit called Priority Sports but he’s working with Mike Tannenbaum (former Jets GM). OK, cool. Not really seeing the connection though. I ask what he’s heard on Golden, then he backtracked and just basically said “nothing really” but then said that UM has come up in discussion several times over the last couple of months at their office. Tannenbaum reps several NBA/NFL coaches and has been talking up guys taking college jobs vs NFL (great $$$ at the bigger schools, better perks, built in prestige of being an NFL coach in recruiting) which I guess makes sense. He said “Tannenbaum has been hammering Hue Jackson to get out of Cincy and pursue a college job. Hue has charisma…met him once. Of the coaches I met he was the most personable…bordered on ****y but just a guy you wanted to like.” Insightful, I thought. Funneled him back to UM. Asked what’s been said? “Just been mentioned as a spot to keep an eye on. Mike had spoken about spots that could open up and mainly was focusing on UM, Nebraska, Arkansas, and Florida. He just thinks college could be a great way for some guys to re-build their brand and recharge their batteries, so to speak.” Does he have any UM contacts? “not that I know of. The only time he ever said anything that specific about UM was after the Jets lost to the Dolphins on MNF. He talks to Rex Ryan regularly and brought up that Rex knows he is getting fired after the year. Thought he was born to coach at UM.” I asked what the connection was between that game and the hurricanes, other than the whole Miami thing. He says “he talks to ross all the time, ross loves rex. Thinks fins would pursue him if (we all know now its WHEN) they fire philbin. Mike just said he could see rex going to Miami but if he did, would tell him to pursue UM if it was open. Mike knows rex really well, and just doesn’t know if he really should take another NFL job. Would immediately become one of the stars of the college football, media would fall over themselves trying to sell Rex as a rival for ‘the big boys’ (saban, miles, fisher, etc).”

Feel free to neg me or whatever. Not trying to troll, not trying to create any false expectations. I’m not really sure expectations are even warranted. I just thought it was interesting that an active sports agent for NFL coaches (tannenbaum) would still consider UM as a job in high regard. Maybe there is still hope. Would have been better if the guys said tannenbaum completely bashed golden and that he is a laughingstock within those circles (probably is anyways) but I didnt want to badger the guy anymore and look like the obsessed fan that I am.

Well ****! I give props to the OP simply for using fargging paragraphs. Good story mane, thanks for posting. We all know that Rex Ryan to UM would is a pipe dream but imagine if that Sh$t happened. Oh Lordee

Rex Ryan would pucker Jimbo's ******** up real good.

Hue Jackson intrigues me. Watched him on Hard Knocks, very impressive. Dude would shred these amateur hour ACC defenses and you know he would hire a bad mother ****** to coach up the D. Recruits down here would respond to his demeanor.

Daddy likey.

Thanks for posting the info, Nate.

Ive known guys in the industry over the years and thats exactly how they operate. They will keep an eye on good jobs that may or may not come available in the near future so as to have their own best clients vetted and ready to go if and when said job opens up. Nothing ground breaking in your story but it IS worth noting that guys in the industry expect this job to open up, likely after the 2015 season.

give me Rex Ryan and we have a legit top 10 defense next year. Rex Ryan going up against the Coastal LOL

Rex Ryan would be a perfect fit, will make the U big money, kids will love him and he can win. Only for his love of football would he even consider. Rex is a players coach, and considered a defensive genus (not in the view of others), defensive recruits will be knocking down the door.

His kid goes to Clemson and I think he is a walk-on, but not sure.

Sad to say. not going to happen.

my friend claimed "VA and Pitt were inexcusable but you were looking to win with a true fresh QB and 2 juco's and 2 true fresh in your DT rotation." Still, i aint buying that but its interesting that people can even still be willing to give golden another year.
Who's faults are those that we keep having to recruit Juco players. Its Golden. He has recruited players and they are duds from NJ. No one told him to start a FR QB, or recruit another bonehead QB. It all falls on him and next year will pronounce it if he comes back. I sincerely hope not

Not as a head coach but I put Bryan Cox in that category too- based on Hard Knocks alone.

Rex Ryan will coach the Dolphins before he coaches the Hurricanes, but **** YOU AL GOLDEN.

Beat me to it. If Rex coaches the Dolphins, then maybe we can get Harbaugh to come back to college and coach the Canes ... Since we're fantasizing right now, may as well go all the way.

Hue Jackson? Nate Webster is in prison on account of His daughter...don't see that one happening.

Yikes. Forgot about that. 12 years too. That's about what people get for non-consensual forcible rape. Should've taken the deal for 4 years. Or better yet, should've found a girl about 10 years older than 15.

I have no doubt this is true. On Pro Football Talk ( and other insiders for different networks ) it's been said that Tannenbaum is currently advising Ross. He's serving as a liaison of sorts to potential Philbin replacements, and he's doing work an agency because of his connections within the coaching community.

It would make sense he'd have discussions with some of his clients about UM.

The problem is UM is a mom and pop operation run by a bunch of fake elitists that don't care about anything except academic ranking and when the ACC check arrives.

I think Rex at UM would be a match made in **** for other programs.

no way rex ryan coaches miami. last decade has taught me to not be optimistic about anything when it comes to miami football
