Meanwhile in Baton Rouge...

What on earth makes you think Mario is going to go against what he knows and what he's been doing and move to an aggressive offensive scheme? Do you know how long it took Saban to finally adjust HIS offense to keep pace with the game? Who knows, maybe Mario would install an aggressive aerial attack but based on who he is (former OL), I HIGHLY doubt it. He's motivated by trenches, defense and running the ball.
I didn’t say he would. But if a new AD comes in and wants an explosive type offense make that known to Mario. I understand you can’t force him to change but if he isn’t willing to make changes for the sake of getting whatever he wants with this program see what other candidates are willing to do.

The point is if you are giving Mario millions for a top staff set demands on it. A new competent AD should be able to sell that vision. To use the Bama point, roll tape of Saban picking whatever WR he wants from SFla and turning him into a star. Alabama still plays super physical football in the trenches but Saban adapted. Sell it to Mario that way.

Billy Napier would be the perfect long term pick for LSU.

But some of their boosters want a big name splash hire that will be able to compete on the recruiting trail with Bama, UGA & TAMU, hence why there’s interest in James Franklin.

James Franklin imo is just like Cristobal, a whole lotta rah rah, good recruiter, B+ coach.

They appeal to the emotions of fans & boosters alike, they’ll always be able to buy themselves leeway because they’re loud & understand how to use authoritative coach speak, but eventually you’ll wonder where it’s going & when the roller coaster ride ends...

Also @Liberty City El alot of that rah rah looks extremely bad when your not winning.

Could be an interesting twist to the coaching musical chairs:

It was reported today that James Franklin is switching his representation to Jimmy Sexton. Apparently, Jimmy Sexton is agent to the heavyweight coaches in the SEC.... And Sexton gets his clients $$$$. It doesn’t mean Franklin to LSU is a done deal, but it certainly points to LSU wanting him and Sexton thinking there’s a plan he can put together to make it happen. This move - and the kind of money Sexton will negotiate for Franklin- will likely take USC out of the equation as far as Franklin goes.

The LSU fan boards have all been pretty confident their new AD Woodward would make a splash hire. Franklin would certainly fit that bill.

It looks like USC will now have Luke Fickell and Matt Campbell at the top of their coach board , with Dave Clawson (Wake Forest) and Jonathan Smith (Oregon St) as candidates #3 and 4.

Wild......
Franklin would be crazy to slide into that mess. LSU is a place folks can obviously win, but it's long been a cesspool of political intrigue. Franklin would eventually get eaten alive.

If he had an offense, oh boy...

But they dont. They stick with Tom Manning for no reason lol.

latest LSU rumor - jimbo. lol
Sexton will, once again, leverage Jimbo an insane new deal. Don’t know how that guy gets away with representing so many coaches with competing interests, but he does and it gives him a gross amount of power.

Sexton is THE SEC power agent. Also, the new AD of LSU was the guy who brought Jimbo to ATM in the first place.

if you got Mario, you're paying him a ton of money (6 min). an AD should never force a coach to make changes to his own coaching philosophy (the AD isn't a coach). if were at that point already, it'll never end well. Mario if hes the coach needs to realize what fits best for the talent he has. if it means he has change his identity as a coach so be it. flexibility will always be key. ill give O credit for making the moves to change LSUs O after Canada failed
