Meanwhile, in Bama...

Who has that 'Heisman defining moment'. It's stupid.

For BAMA fans, what is stupid is that we didn't have a Heisman winner until 2009. And coming in a close second to that stupidity is Bryce Young being the first QB that has ever won the Heisman for the Crimson Tide. That is mostly insane when you think about it.

Who should have won it earlier?

Shaun Alexander over Ricky Williams? Or Ron Dayne his senior year? You are a fan. I thought this was a serious discussion.

But, before 2009, which QB should have won?

It's been a beauty contest since the beginning. Being highly subjective is what the award has always been and that pretty much defines a football "fan." Kinda like when Gino Torretta beats out Marshal Faulk and Garrison Hearst in '92." Yep, we got a great look at that winner, up close and personal.

You do realize the role Torretta played getting us there, right? As well as the fact that he won the national championship the year prior. And was sitting on a 23-0 streak over the previous two seasons.

That's the point. Playing on a great team is the biggest billboard in the room. Scheme matters too, at times far more than talent. It also doesn't hurt that pure football propaganda for or against these players by biased media members often decides such things. Such are the ingredients of a "beauty contest."

But my point is there's more to it than that. If your premise had been the case, Trevor Lawrence would have one. It's biased towards quarterbacks becasue they're difference makers. Torretta's skills getting them to an 11-0 finish was impressive because there were glaring weaknesses in that offense that Alabama was able to exploit.

There were glaring weaknesses in Alabama's offense. They couldn't throw a forward pass. Miami came into the game with what was considered a much more wide-open and explosive offensive scheme. What the Hurricanes ran into was a generational defense and a great DC named "Brother" Bill Olivier,

We had a marginal run game and Bama put 8 in the box on every play. There was no time to set up good pass plays like the 99 yarder that gave Gino an NCAA record. Erickson was starting to get in cruise control mode. When asked what special planning he was going to do for the championship game, his answer was, "None, we're gonna use what brung us here."

And before you go getting too big of a head about doing something amazing, Arizona almost beat us with their Desert Swarm back in Septemebt of that year. You guys just looked at what they did and planned for it not to be raining.

BAMA often ran zero coverage and put 11 men on the line at times. Once Miami set, Bama, just before the snap, would morph into the coverage. Our strength on the back half of a great defense matched up perfectly with Miami's strength coming in. Lamar Thomas had no idea the caliber of DBs we had. As good as some of our D-linemen were, our DBs, including safeties here, were as special as anything we've seen in the Nick Saban era. More so, I believe. When Gino Torretta said "he couldn't remember the second half" it was because our DBs just shut down the show on the backend.

That's what I thought he said was at qb. At qb they've been basic as can be for a long time. The one who would've almost definitely won it couldn't stay healthy long enough to qualify for it. Besides the almighty tankless tua who would deserve that at qb for bama? I'll agree with you and say none.

Gino said that because he was drunk the whole game. He routinely would play drunk by the way. It was an all around horrible game for us. But we know the approach to the game and coaching was a far bigger issue than any back end talent. If not for curry and Copeland we dish rag y'all. But hindsight is 20 20 and you guys came out to go while we laid down. Congrats.
