Maurice Smith Alabama DB transfer

Would love to get Smith, but this is one of those deals that's gone against us seemingly forever now. We get close, and then we get that America's Funniest Videos giant plastic baseball bat to the scrotal region.

If we get him it might be a turning point for us.

I like this pickup but yall need to stop sleeping on Redwine. He has that "Miami CB Mentality" that everyone on here likes to bring up. He's not just gonna lay down and give that spot up.

He can have mentality all he wants but if he cant get the job done he just cant. Redwine struggled in the spring so his spot isnt safe.

Well, that just like, your opinion, dude.

No thats fact. Its been reported by several that he had struggles.

Im going to leave this here since you continue to talk out of your ***...

Miami Hurricanes Football 2016 Player Profile: Sheldrick Redwine - State of The U

Lol. You are using that site for yoir evidence? When several people who has watched practice and the scrimmage said he had some good moments but was beaten too often.

Whats funny is I watch college football and gamble on it religiously, watch Alabama all the time...and I dont remember Maurice Smith ever making a play or even on the field that much and now we have him penciled in as a starter and hes better then Elder...LMAO...... you guys are phucking hillarious... I mean I want us to be good too but come the ***** on....Dude was beat out by multiple freshman..he may be decent but he aint that good....Yall boys trying some real canes and getting hard for one and only one reason... becausehe played for Alabama. he was never a starter and he is here for depth reason only....if he does play I wouldnt expect an all ACC player here

Honestly, how many of the CB's on our roster currently would start for Bama? They are loaded with talent. It is not unreasonable to think that this guy can start here immediately. He is a senior, was coached well, and has played in some big games against tough competition.I'm not saying he will be All ACC or anything but he will push our current CB'S hard and will most likely start or be heavily involved from day-1.

Gotta love how people complain about our CB depth for months and now when we have a viable option available, people act like who we have here already is all world and we don't need him. Uhhh what??? Would be huge, IF it happens.

Although I agree with what you're saying...Tracy Howard would probably start, or be the Nickel CB for this year's team, and he was our 3rd best CB last year. The projected 3rd best CB (since he was supposed to be Alabama's Nickel) on the defending champs team who was also described as a vocal leader and hard worker, will be no worse than adding Tracy Howard for another year.
I won't argue if he is better or not, but based off descriptions he is much more versatile, and will definitely be a fiery character, which is always a plus for defensive players. I don't like how people are crowning him the answer to our problem, because he isn't JC Jackson caliber, but I can agree this will be a huge pickup for depth reasons.

Edit: I just look at it as...when we are in a Dime package, I trust transfers Adrian Colbert plus a bama DB who got beat out by freshman but got alot of special team experience and playing time, over the young and inexperienced CB's behind (already young/not as inexperienced) Sheldrick Redwin and Corn Elder.

Bro U like him because ha plays for Alabama it..and he was coached by the lil midget that's it. Corn Elder was just as highly rated an athlete coming out if high school l... And I don't get what u mean.. If your saying none of our corners would start at alabammy this guy didn't start either!!!!! I highly doubt he is better or as good as Elder... This same board was trashing burns most of his career and claiming he nor bush would start at Alabama....as a matter of fact the beginning of the year we all felt elder was our best cover corner better then Burns....and now some bench player is gonna come in and be better then our starting corner jus because he was a 4 star and played special teams st Alabama ... Mind u dude doesn't have an interception his whole career at bama but yet he's better then aElder

You're right man. When your secondary is the biggest hole on your team and you have a chance to get a 4 star from the best secondary in the nation, YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DO IT!

4 star, No 12 rated DB in the nation, and 142nd overall player.

I say this is a pretty nice pick up.

These are some of the reasons ,as well as the ones I stated above, that I like him blackvern.

Several schools aggressively pursuing Alabama grad transfer Maurice Smith

Miami, Georgia, Maryland and USC are the early favorites to land Alabama graduate transfer defensive back Maurice Smith, sources told AL.com.

All four schools have been aggressively pursuing Smith since he received his release from the Tide last week.

Coach Mark Richt and Miami have been particularly aggressive and have been in contact daily, according to a source.

Helping both Georgia and Maryland are relationships Smith has from his time with the Tide.

New Georgia coach Kirby Smart was previously Alabama's defensive coordinator. Defensive coordinator Mel Tucker was the Tide's defensive backs coach last season.

New Maryland defensive backs coach Aazaar Abdul-Rahim was on Alabama's staff in 2014 and last year.

Louisville and Houston are other schools that have reached out and expressed interest in Smith, according to a source.

While Smith was never a full-time starter with the Tide, he was contributing on defense as early as his true freshman season in 2013 and was in the mix to be Alabama's starting nickel back this season.

He was the Tide's first-team nickel back throughout the spring and during Alabama's spring game in April.

Disagree this was already a 10 win team now we have no reason we cant beat FSU win the ACC and participate in the cfb playoffs

We didn't add Ed Reed man. Playoffs? Take it easy.

Win the ACC and you get in the playoffs.
If you're undefeated. (We won't be)

No games have been played yet...every year is different and we have as much talent as everyone in the country except for Bama... with style of play being suited to our players, belief in a proven coach and we stay away from the injury bug we can be in the playoff...maybe even as a 2 loss team if those 2 losses are only to ND and FSU and we beat CU or FSU in the ACCCG.... Big dreams but hey everyone is "undefeated" now

Question.. What about the FSU program we played the last 2 seasons says we have to pencil in a loss, at home, when they have a red-shirt fresher who hasn't seen live action starting at QB?

He already has a ring and 3 years of Saban...Maybe now he wants to ball..

I dont disagree that we need him.....thats the pathetic situation that was left. Miami desperate for scraps in the secondary?
Were on the rebound tho......JJ & MY will be the anchors in our secondary for our future stout defense
