Martell’s Attorney re: NCAA Waiver

Doesn’t change the circumstances

Sure it does 1) Urban announced retired - nothing from Martell 2) Their starting QB announces leaving for draft -- nothing from Martell 3) Field transfers - Martell says I am staying - ready to compete 4) Changes his mind days latter

No way he should get a waiver.

He’s only leaving because he knows Day prefers Fields.

If he wins, it’s a slippery slope.

Starters are going to transfer to better teams to make the playoffs.

That’s the unintended consequences of letting players leave with immediate eligibility without being grad transfers ... Teams that are already really good will bring studs to fill gaps. And the divide between the top teams and the other teams will grow.

None of this matters. His waiver will be based on his moral objection to how tOSU handled the Urban Meyer scandal.

If they grant Fields a waiver, how do they say no to Tate? Wouldn't make any sense. Either both should get a waiver or both sit.

The Fields’ case will be tied to the situation with the baseball player.

Yeah, he’s mad that Fromm gets to be the starter. But the case has merit. The situation warranted UGA dismissing the kid.

He has a great case. He could no longer continue to be a student at a university that placed winning football games above the welfare of women, and who continued to employ a man who turned his cheek to violence against women.

No chance the NCAA rejects a waiver based on a moral objection to violence against women. The public backlash they’d get for that would be insane.

I certainly hope you're right. However, that would seem to open up the door for every player on that team to transfer and remain eligible.

What don’t you get about my post? His waiver will use tOSU’s handling of the Urban Meyer / Zach Smith scandal. He’ll build a case on a moral objection to how that was handled. Quite frankly, it’s a slam dunk.

One drunk idoit at a game. And the school dismissed the said idiot. The truth is Fields was upset from lack of PT. At least Martell can argue the HC he committed to left. The football team itself has nothing to do with the racist baseball player.

Ohio State didn’t receive any punishment from the NCAA from the situation you’re trying to use.

I can’t imagine they will buy that argument.

If he was so appalled, why stay? He actually would have had a better case for leaving if he pushed this approach when the story broke, IMO.

Sure does. tOSU should have thought that through before they prioritized winning over doing the right thing.
I completely agree with your moral stance here. I just don't think the NCAA would grant something that sweeping. Most of them are scumbags anyway.

This would work in our favor now, but what happens when a kid tries to bail on us because we lost a coach? Just pointing out that these things cut both ways.

Must include a picture of Captain Obvious in the future for these hot takes.
