Mark Matthews commits to TAMU in ambiguously ___ manner. Move On

You could say the same for American Heritage as well but we have had more success there.

My son, 6'5" 310, 2027 IOL, (still growing), 4.4 GPA would do anything to play and be coached at UM. He missed most of his junior year due to injury, so he's playing catch up in the recruiting game. More than likely he'll end up at a DII or FCS school. When he saw the news yesterday he quite simply said, "If you're an OL why would you pick anywhere else?" He then followed that up with, "UM is a beautiful place with everything you could ever want." My son gets it but he's been a Cane fan his entire life. And I will admit it sucks following recruiting when you have a loved one going through it and struggling to get looks.

Tell your son to take up golf and use those grades to go to a good school (like UM). His knees will thank him in his 50’s.

Heritage puts out way better players

It may be the culture.
For some kids, it may be the "cool" thing to leave town and play for some program up north.
It's kind of like the kid that wears a different sneaker or tee-shirt that no one else is wearing.
Many times at these private schools, it is simply cool for some to be different.
I grew up with many classmates who talked about being cool to attend UCLA, USC, the northern Florida schools, etc.......many of them ending up doing the Miami Dade CC-FIU instead....lol
 
honestly at this point, its whatever.
Over the last decade, our OL coach and Head Coach have developed OL as good as anyone
Your local team has finally turned the corner and looks to be on a major upward trajectory just coming off a Natty appearance
Significant money/opportunity was being offered
A world class university with endless options outside of football available
Play in front of family and friends every week

and this still isnt enough for you???

If it's true what @DMoney said that it wasn't about money then i'll say this: if you trust Mario's recruiting pitch then you want kids who have heard it, who have seen the team work out, to be attracted to that. If they're not, even if they're tremendous talents, then it's probably not a great fit. It sucks because you want these kids with a ton of talent to want that. Because the combination of raw talent and buy in, with this system, will produce monsters.

Everyone is listing all the reasons Miami makes more sense and I feel the same way. That's what's frustrating. But the kid has the same information. And if he absorbs all that and says, "nah, I want to go to Texas A&M", doesn't that speak volumes as to where his head is at in relation to what this program needs?

Or maybe Mario's pitch wasn't great. I just have a hard time believing that as we play for the national championship and put an OL in the top 10 of the draft.

Say he goes TAMU and receives his millions, then reality hits and he realizes there’s nothing in Texas but a boring place especially not raised in that type of nothingness.
I and when he portals for more millions does he have to give TSMU there wasted millions or can he continue to portal and accumulate bank ?

If he does that he will make way more money if he is actually the goods. If not he should stay and be overpaid. But if he’s a future top 3 pick then hit the portal and reset your market. Someone will pay it

Too reasonable! One thing I do not doubt about Mario. He isn’t just tucking himself in a corner and crying about it. Guy loves optics. He’ll swing back before the cycle is over

Then he should immediately fix the optics that are currently so trash when there has been so much on field success.

If all things equal and he is still choosing A&M, good luck to him.

Buddy is scared of competition and doesn’t see a clear path to starting immediately.

There’s no way he watches our game against them and think he’s not going to be developed into a first rounder
 
Of course the money isn't the same. Miami and Mario aren't going to bad mouth a local recruit they will try to flip by saying he's bagged up. Money just running cover

My thing with the money aspect is that there’s also a difference between the money being equal (or slightly more in Miami’s favor), and it being significantly more like it was with MJC and Auburn

This is one of those situations where you should offer significantly over market to make sure it happens if you have to. I would be curious if we did that here. At a certain point enough $$ can probably overcome whatever temporary infatuation he has with College Station, TX.
