Mark Matthews commits to TAMU in ambiguously ___ manner. Move On

I think a lot of folks are still stuck in the mind frame of 2003-2023 where we hinged our hopes of restoring the program on a single recruit. If we miss out on this guy it stinks, but one thing Mario has proven is he is a very capable and competent roster builder. We are no longer in the position where a single guy makes the team make-it-or-break-it.

My thing with the money aspect is that there’s also a difference between the money being equal (or slightly more in Miami’s favor), and it being significantly more like it was with MJC and Auburn

This is one of those situations where you should offer significantly over market to make sure it happens if you have to. I would be curious if we did that here. At a certain point enough $$ can probably overcome whatever temporary infatuation he has with College Station, TX.
I find it slightly odd given your user name that you haven't considered the mutiny that would occur within those currently on the roster if we offered an unproven high school kid 50-200% more than our top paid OL. This concept has been mentioned several times and it makes a lot of sense.

I think it's an STA thing as well. They have so many kids at that school who go play sports in college...not just FBS football but what....several hundred kids across their athletic department go play sports in college, and almost all of them leave the area.

Now, most don't have the opportunity to stay home. If you play lacrosse, you don't have much of a choice. But still, for decades that place has just been a carousel of playing sports at STA and then heading off to college in another state. I know Roger personally, and he followed the same blueprint. Again, he didn't have a Miami offer, but he was great at STA and went to BU (and then Villanova), then came home.

I could be totally wrong here, but it just seems like the kids there inherently go elsewhere, for the most part. Even if it's to Gainesville or Tally, I just feel like over the past 20 years, Miami has gotten WAY less of it's share from STA than it "should" have. I'm sure they don't blatantly push kids out of town, but it just seems like that's the blueprint they almost all follow.
Good point

That's a great point...
I wanted to play in college too. Unfortunately, I'm 6'0" tall (when standing on a red ant hill) and played line. I didn't want to play at some D3 school with crowds smaller than my high school. My grades were really good and I received an academic scholly to UM along with some grants and loans. 35+ years later, I'm doing fine and I don't exhibit signs of CTE. Meanwhile, my youngest brother is 6'3" and played at a large D1 school. He was a 3 year starter on the OL. He had a couple knee surgeries and a shoulder recon to fix a torn labrum. He also had several concussions. His post-football/post-college career has largely been a disaster due mostly to poor decisions, a sense of entitlement, intellectual laziness and some likely CTE signs.
Every situation is different and unique. Simply pointing out that what I thought was a curse for me and a blessing for my brother, actually turned out to be the opposite. Most guys that play football in college don't play on Sundays when college ends. The memories fade while the injuries and pain intensifies.

Excellent point.

I didn't go there but my sister did. My sense was that it's a fairly wealthy HS and a lot of the kids have the smarts and family money/resources to go out of state. It's not as provincial as some of the schools in Miami where many kids will never have the opportunity to leave the county (so staying in town is very much ok).

I suspect that that affects these kids' decision-making.

That worked well for Elko last December.
this is about recruiting
why change the subject to try to fit a narrative
i have been clear mario showed hes better game day coach
but head to head recruiting elko is beating him
why is it so hard to simply just admit that mario is getting worked on the trail by a better recruiter
