Mark Matthews commits to TAMU in ambiguously ___ manner. Move On

I wish this point was discussed more.

Assume Matthews wants more than what UM is paying Cantwell. If that is true, then after signing Matthews, Cantwell will want and receive more moeny, and possibly Samson and others in that room. I’ve always assumed this is why UM likes to sign 5 stars every 2-3 years at the same position, so as to avoid having to give everyone in the room a raise because of what the new 5 star is making.

If all you want is someone to say elko has landed better recruits overall (on paper), than fine. But what does it matter when at the end of the day we end up with a better team?
 
I do appreciate the people that tell us not to get excited until someone signs when it’s trending towards Miami, but full on melt down when recruits trend somewhere else before they sign

we won the last game bc we had elite talent along the D line and O line
and their qb is trash
but if elko keeps winning these recruits the next game may not turn out that way
already had 2 five stars and most likely will get a 3rd for the oline
 
Some guys just want to do the contrarian thing and go their own way. There's still a big strain of it in South Florida even though NIL and a winning culture has gotten us back in the game.

We were not relying on MJC or Matthews to start in 2027. How many running backs and OL did Miami just take in the portal? One OL from Georgia who will be a depth piece. Both rooms have plenty of talent and there are other high school players out there. You can't believe because a high school rb and OL didn't pick Miami that they will have to hit the portal hard for those positions. If Miami can continue to do a great job in roster retention then Miami is good for 2027

It's not only a great point but probably THE sticking point...and the mopes never address this dynamic

Matthews probably would of started and MJC would of possibly been RB2 then overtook whoever was in front of him IMO. Matthews could of possibly been year 1 at G unless RT was playing like dog **** then he would of started for sure. We will never know everything is a guess including my take.

Exactly right on the head. It's all a guessing game. What if cantwell, Buchanan, irvin and congdon are all the real deal and samson comes back for senior season? Absolutely no guarantees Matthews starts. Maybe someone doesn't pan out and he could have. Point is nobody knows and there is a lot of talent in that room and Miami will add more in this class.

Put yourself in the student athletes mind for a second. When you are being recruited, you think about fit, depth chart, money, coaching, academics, ect. ect. How much does this weeks optics (which change every week) play in to your decision?

Optics are for the fans, not the athletes.

Yea no one knows, **** Matthews can be in the portal in a year or so you never know. We do know Cantwell will be a beast because you dont get the stories we have already heard and seen with our eyes about him, and then him not working out. But you never truly know till the season starts.

Matthew is taking a pay cut to go to Texas A&M. Money isn't the factor here

I would really loved to have landed Matthews but it hurts a little less with the 3 OT's we recruited last year. I think last years OL class is one we look back on in 10 years and are amazed at.

Shooter was shut up by Mario and Co. with how they finished the season. One thing I never questioned was his recruiting ability. You ****ers need to remember it's the end of April. Go drink a beer, golf, touch your nipples, get laid, do drugs and come back end of August.
